Neighborhood Overview: Park Slope is a beautiful, landmark neighborhood, including tree lined streets, gourmet restaurants, easy access to transportation, and Prospect Park - the largest public park in Brooklyn. In 2010, New York Magazine selected Park Slope as the finest neighborhood in New York City, citing its overall safety, fine dining, eclectic nightlife, local shopping, and close proximity to public transit, green space, quality housing, and creative capital. In 2007, Park Slope was named one of the "Greatest Neighborhoods in America" by the American Planning Association "for its architectural and historical features and its diverse mix of residents and businesses". And in December 2006, Natural Home magazine named Park Slope one of America's ten best neighborhoods, citing area greenspaces, neighborhood gathering spaces, local farmer's markets, strong public transportation, and interesting locally owned businesses.
Notes: Please note a few pieces of feedback we have received from our guests: 1) There are stairs leading down to the basement studio. The stairs are easily accessible, but the listing is not recommended for elderly or disabled guests. 2) There are mechanical pipes just below the basement ceiling. The pipes do not impact your living space in any way, but they are visible in the room. 3) The garden is wonderful when the weather is nice. Please note, though, that the garden is less comfortable during our winter from November though early March. You will always have access to the backyard, but New York can be quite cold outside during he winter. 4) The flat is private, and you will have private access through a personal electronic code. Unfortunately, we will likely not be available to greet you at arrival. However, you will receive detailed instructions with a private passkey in advance of your arrival. Please read the instructions included in the listing, as well as the details I will s

Comments: This is an excellent private unit very close to the subway in Brooklyn, the price is one of the best deals in NYC! The bathroom is completely remodeled and there's plenty of space, with the new comfortable bed it's a true gem.

Comments: Andrew was super nice, über responsive and very accommodating. The “Hideaway” just has a great vibe… I was safe, comfortable and I slept VERY well — those are my requirements, and it was all good. Loved the awesome library; the WC was lovely; the large room was clean and there's a mini-fridge! The place is completely private with an entrance in the front and direct access to the back yard too. You are in a great neighborhood and on a nice street, I would stay there again in a heart-beat.

Comments: Andrew was a warm and receptive host. The basement apartment is as described comfortable queen size bed extremely quit, beautiful decor and an awesome bath. There are plenty of shop, rite aid, taverns within a walking distant. I will definitely put this down as one of my favorite short time rentals.

Comments: Andrew was extremely accommodating with our early check in. We had a nice chat when we arrived to pick up the key, and after that we never saw him or anyone else in the house. Check out was easy and convenient to our schedule. The space is extremely private, quiet and clean. The basement room has very little daylight except for a back door leading to the shady garden, which makes it perfect for staying out late and sleeping in during the day! A little rumble from the nearby subway train is no big deal. The bed was very comfortable. We loved our stay there. I have family living on a nearby street, and I have already told them to refer people to stay at Andrew's house. I would definitely stay there again. The only down side to this place is that I had no cell phone reception inside, and had to go outside to the patio to make calls and check text messages. Luckily the weather was nice, and the patio was private.

Comments: Andrew and his family are very friendly and helpful. He was always available for any questions I had. The apartment is located perfectly to explore New York City, since the metro is only a few minutes away. The space works great to use as a base to discover New York. If you have a day where you would like to take it easy, they also have a great space outside where you can sit and relax. On top of this, there are a lot of small shops and restaurants in the neighborhood. This means that you can easily just stroll around the area and enjoy a good meal without having to go far. I would definitely go back here, although I would stay longer next time. New York City has a lot things to offer that I feel I missed out on this time. I guess I’ll have to come back sometime soon! Thank you again for your hospitality, Andrew!

Comments: I came back to NY with my mom for my graduation ceremony in the city. We came in very late the first night (I'm talking 2am), but this was no problem as there is a keyless entry. Andrew's place was conveniently close to the F/G/R trains (just down the same block!) which made getting around very easy. As far as the room, it was very spacious, the shower was hot (shampoo, towels, and soap provided), the bed was firm, and we were happy. You do hear the train roll by ever so often, but it is a distant sound and did not interrupt our sleeping. The location is convenient and safe - many food stops/banks/drug stores close by. As far as the host himself - Andrew provided me with information before I arrived and he was very keen on answering all of the (many) questions I had before we arrived. During our stay, he made sure to ask us if we needed anything. Though I didn't meet him in person, I felt welcome and taken care of. I'd recommend this place for someone looking to stay within a stone's throw from Manhattan and have the autonomy to come in and out without bothering the host. Thank you!

Comments: We had a very nice stay at Andrew's place. The neighborhood is great and the place is very quiet. Subway is right around the street corner and it takes around thirty min. to go to Manhattan. Private access to the room is very convenient and the backyard/garden is also very nice to chill-out after a busy day in the city.

Comments: Andrew was the perfect host and promptly answered every question we had. The location is spot on for going in and out of Manhattan. There is a 24 hour Rite Aid on the corner, an excellent bagel shop across from it and a very charming little cafe around the corner for a good coffee. It helps to keep your travel costs down to grab a delish breakfast and come back to bask in the sunshine on the private patio garden. The bathroom is great with a large shower. Downside for some is the absence of a TV (not for us) and a large book collection to peruse if you left your book at home. The private entrance and keyless entry is just one more thing to simplify your trip. Did I mention that the subway station is a block away? I love this neighborhood and you will too.

Comments: This was perfect for us. Fantastic location - a block from the F, G, and R trains. We had plenty of room, the bed and couch were both very comfortable, and Andrew was a thoughtful host (though we never met him). There's no air conditioning, so - it being the summer - it was a bit warmer than one would want. But because it was the basement apartment, it kept the heat from being out of control, and Andrew had a pretty good set up of fans and ventilation from the back door. I thought the value was excellent!

Comments: Andrew was a wonderful host who was very accessible. The place was very clean and well stocked for visitors. The location was perfect for getting to Manhattan and was walkable to many shops, places to eat and a 24 hour Rite Aid. My family enjoyed the weekend and found the basement to be very comfortable. My only complaint was that there was no air conditioning and in the summer it was definitely hot down there. There are fans, but on a warm day the room was very hot. I would say putting in a wall air conditioning unit would be a great addition to enhance a persons stay in the summer months. Andrew was fair and reasonable when some things went awry with his water heater and when my child damaged a plant in his back yard-- I REALLY appreciated that. I thought he was an excellent host and would stay here again! I I would also recommend this spot to friends who would like to come to the city. Andrew has done a great job turning a basement into a terrific vacation get-away!

Comments: It was a pleasure working with Andrew from start to finish: he is prompt, responsive, accommodating and periodically makes sure that you are happy with your stay. My parents stayed at his rental for two weeks and enjoyed the experience. The unit is located in the basement with access to the courtyard, is on a quiet street close to transportation, and is furnished with all you need, including humidifier, fans and a Brita. No TV but has wifi so you can watch Netflix etc. Overall, a great experience.

Comments: Absolutely fantastic place to stay! For two people it was more than enough room. Andrew was an incredible host, very accommodating and always there to provide you with anything you need. The location was perfect, in a very safe neighborhood that you can walk around at any time (even late at night) without any worries. It is only a few minutes walk from the subway which makes it super convenient to go anywhere (and conversely, easy to get back to at any hour). The private entrance makes it easy for you to get in and out of the room discretely without having to trouble the host, which is perfect for us since we would spend the entire day exploring all of NYC. The bed was very comfortable for two people, we slept like a baby and woke up refreshed everyday. The bathroom is newly renovated and very modern and comfortable. There is also a dehumidifier which is sorely appreciated (Andrew thought of everything). All amenities were included, and when we ran low, a simple message to Andrew was all that was needed and he would take care of it. He honestly wants to make sure you are having an enjoyable trip and is always there to make sure that it happens. When we come back to visit NYC we will definitely come back.

Comments: Four of us stayed here for three nights and it was an excellent accommodation in a great location. Andrew communicated all necessary information before our arrival. At one point I asked about additional bedding and towels and he brought them immediately. He was an attentive and respectful host. The whole place was clean and comfortable. It would be very spacious for two or even three people, but if you use the convertible sofa as a queen-sized bed, there's not much room left in the main part of the apartment. The bed was very comfortable, the hide-a-bed mattress significantly less so. The location is excellent -- less than a block to the subway station, a short train ride to lower Manhattan, and plenty of excellent restaurants, coffee shops, and other amenities around any corner. We did not use the patio. It was fairly cluttered and therefore less inviting than it appears in the listing. Overall, it's a very nice place, reasonably priced, and I recommend it highly.

Andrew replied to me right away every time I texted him. I felt safe. Lovely place and very good location, with all kinds of shops nearby. Plenty of subway too. Very close to Prospect Park! Just next to YMCA swimming pool too. I hope to come back many times!

Comments: Beautiful loft style hide-away! This spot is less than a block away from the subway and right in the middle of a hip, up & coming neighborhood. If your looking for a quick ride on the subway into Manhattan, I would look elsewhere but if you want a localized and private spot, this is your place!! The loft is totally private with keyless entry (awesome!) and you have a beautiful patio all to yourself! The bathroom is newly remodeled and there are humidifiers and a heater/ac to keep you comfortable. The bed is cozy, the towels and sheets are new and the fully stocked keurig and "snack bar" are quite a lovely surprise!! I didn't see Andrew the entire time, but he made it known he was available, should I need anything at all. This was entirely made possible by his sweet keyless entry system. I came and went as I pleased, I had all the privacy I could want and the location was spot on for what I paid for/ needed. I would absolutely stay here again.

Comments: Had a wonderful stay at Andrews! Upon arrival, I immediately noticed the snack tray (snickers, coffee, gum, mouthwash, etc.) and was sure to take advantage of them. After many AirBnb trips - this was the first that felt more like staying at a hotel than staying in an extra room! The private entrance was great, walk to the subway (FGR) was less than a block, lots to check out and do right off of 5th Ave, and overall an extremely comfortable and hospitable experience. Would HIGHLY recommend staying here to anyone.

Comments: Great place to stay - very comfortable home away from home. The studio is completely private, fully equipped with everything you might need (description accurate) and extras such as coffee, tea, snacks and toiletries. Andrew was extremely thoughtful. Before I arrived text/email with all the information I needed about the studio. In the studio was a printout of things to do in the neighborhood (great neighborhood) with maps. The studio is only one block from the train. During my stay he texted me again to make sure everything was OK. I strongly recommend the Park Slope Brooklyn Hideaway.

Comments: Andrew and his wife Sam were great! They always checked in to see how we were doing and offered anything to make our stay comfortable. The location is perfect! So convenient and literally in the middle of everything! Subway in walking distance on the same block and right off 5th ave with TONS of restaurants, bars and things to do. They left a printed guide of things to do, recommended places to eat/drink and a cute little welcome care package. The space itself was small, but comfortable and easily accommodates 2 people. They were also flexible with accommodating our late flight (with regards to our check out time) and offered to store our bags during our walk over the Brooklyn bridge! I definitely recommend this place and appreciate their hospitality! Thank you for making our NY stay perfect!

Comments: Andrew's place was very nice, it was like a little hidden cave and we never lived in something like that before. So it was a very new experience for us. The actual living quarters were very clean and neat and full of interesting books one of which we purchased from Andrew! The bathroom was immaculate and there was an abundance of amenities and the bed was very comfortable. The location is right next to a train station and a 24 hour pharmacy as well as several bars which are open late which we found very convenient. Andrew and his wife were very kind and welcoming and we would be happy to stay with them again. -Ivan

Comments: My family and I had a great stay at Andrew's place. Everything was convenient and comfortable, especially the bed! I truly appreciated the welcome basket as my flight arrived late at night and I wasn't able to grab any food between the airport and arriving in Park Slope. We used to live in in the neighborhood and were so happy to find this listing because we knew how close it was to some of our favorite restaurants, playgrounds, Prospect Park, and the Subway. I don't think you could ask for a better location. The stairs down to the apt are a bit steep, but neither my four year old son nor my own bum knees had a problem with them. What Andrew wrote about the library is absolutely true. It is an English teacher's dream, and we all enjoyed the added bonus of some great new books during our stay.

Comments: The area was great for brunch and very near the subway. We didn't meet the host, but contacting him was very easy and we received speedy responses to our messages. The room had been set up for two rather than three guests but Andrew sent a neighbour with additional pillows and sheets straight away and apologised profusely. The room was comfortable and warm and was not damp despite being underground. The wi-fi was great, the shower is powerful and the hot water was good, and we appreciated the coffee machine very much. However, the room is rather cramped for more than two guests and we found that it was very noisy at night, thanks to noises from the pipes that run through. It also does not have a window, so there is very little natural light except through a pane of glass in the door. It can also get very hot at night (even in December).

Comments: One of the best (if not the best) place I've stayed at with Airbnb. The location is great, very close to the subway and nice coffee stores. Andrew was great about communication, everything was clean, had a kettle that I think it's worth 5 stars because I drink tea all the time, there was also a coffee maker and a few snacks that is very thoughfull. I only stayed 2 nights but loved my stay and will look in the future to stay again.

Comments: I had a great stay at Andrew's place in Park Slope Brooklyn. The space is totally private with keypad controlled entry which was great because I never had to think about the keys. The room felt like a nice hotel suite with a big bed, a couch, coffee table, fridge, microwave and really nice, very new bathroom with a great stall shower. Comments: Checking in was super easy - Andrew has definitely done this before. Access codes and wifi logins were all ready and he had laid out a nice spread of welcome goodies that made things easier (my back was killing me from the drive and the Advil was much appreciated ;-) The house is on a quieter side street off 5th - the area is very nice with loads of restaurants and a park nearby for the kids.

Comments: We didn't get to meet Andrew but he was available and responsive any time we needed help. The apartment is very private and comfortable. It's equipped above average with a coffee machine and water filter. The bathroom is very nice and clean, everything works perfectly. Andrew left a basket with some thoughtful amenities like shampoo, toothpaste, instant oatmeal and even a chop stick! Very much appreciated! The space is not as bright and spacious as it seems in the pictures but it's very clean and comfortable. It's obvious that the owners have put a lot of thought in equipping the apartment. Location is just perfect: just a few steps to the subway station for F, G and R lines which take you to Manhattan in about 20 mins. The area is safe and full of cozy restaurants and shops (24/7!). Perfect location for exploring both Manhattan and Brooklyn especially if you want to feel like a local.

Comments: It's a great experience! Andrew had all things prepared before we arrived. The passcode for the doors, the wifi password, he let us know before ahead. We had some difficult to open the door as we were not familiar with the lock, but Andrew was so helpful (tho we never had to meet him). The location is just 3-5 mins walk to subway, it's really convenient. This is the first time I try Airbnb, was nervous and I heard some bad experience from my course mate (from other host), but it's all above my expectation. Definitely recommend this place, nice, cozy, comfy, and especially just came back from crowd, this is the place that can rest well and fully relax.

Comments: Great Hideaway in Park Slope. We were walking distance to everything and took advantage of all the neighborhood has to offer. 24 hr Rite Aid a building away, great bagels across the street from that, the metro station a block away and then Prospect Park just a few blocks further. We always felt safe and could park the car for the week and only had to move it for street cleaning...crazy how that works but I was thankful for parking!! The pictures are spot on and Andrew did an awesome job of making us feel welcome. He left a care basket with snacks and toiletries that were so welcome. The listing did not say hair dryer but they had that and a toaster oven and filtered water. I would certainly go back!!

Comments: The location of the apartment could not be better. Close to the subway station and just off the eclectic 5th Ave of Brooklyn. Andrew did everything to make us feel welcome and was quick to reply on all of our questions. One remark as I am above average in height is that the ceiling is below standard height. Clean and nice over all and good value.

Comments: I enjoyed my stay at Andrew's very much. The neighborhood is very nice and close to Prosspect Park and the terrace behind the apartment was lovely. Comments: Andrew's place is super well located, 1 min distance to a subway station that takes you right into the heart of Manhattan. Park slope is a super dope neighborhood with tons of bars, restaurants and lovely shops.. Not to mention prospect park, which is not walking distance (maybe 25 ') but still close. The place was clean, located in the basement (thus a bit dark, but good for sleeping :-) with all the facilities you need. Perfect jumping-off point if you want to explore BKLYN and Manhattan. Would definitely return.

Comments: Andrew responded quickly to any questions I had throughout the entire process-from reservation to check out. He took the initiative to make contact prior to my arrival just to make sure I was comfortable with the process. "Hideaway" is uniquely located such that a left turn out the door leads you through quaint residential streets, while a right turn out the door and you're in the heart of Park Slope' s eclectic business sector.

Comments: The location is good (close to metro, restaurants, park, etc.) and the price is attractive compared to a hotel in the area. Nevertheless we were disappointed by the studio. There is no natural light, the air does not flow naturally hence it was smelly and humid and the ceiling is low which is quite overwhelming. Also we could hear the foot steps, toilet flushes, television, etc. of the people living on the ground floor including late at night and very early in the morning.

Comments: The host was not there to meet us and we never met the entire stay, the nanny did not know we were arriving and had to make a phone call to find out what was going on which was disappointing. There was no information left in the studio about the subway etc which would have been helpful. We also heard lots of noise upstairs in the mornings, there was also a smell of damp in the studio, there was no point in complaining about this as there was nothing that could be done. there is no way more than 2 people could stay here as it is very small. i do believe Andrew called the night we arrived but after a long haul flight we were in bed early, he did email to ask if everything was ok. The fact that we spent so little time there was probably a bonus, i was disappointed that we could not hold the room for longer the day we were leaving not even to leave our luggage there was not helpful, we had to be out by 11am and our flight was at 9pm that night, they did not even come down the day we were leaving to say goodbye.

Comments: My friend and I had an excellent stay at Andrew's flat. I never end up meeting Andrew - as no keys were required to get into the flat, but he has been very nice with us, and often check in with us to see if everything is alright. The flat is small but fully equiped and very well situated to explore both Brooklyn and Manhattan (and probably the Queens, while we have not been there). It is a basement flat so don't expect a lot of natural light, but this should push you to go outside and enjoy the city (that is what you are here, right ? ;) ).

Comments: Andrew's place is great, so easy to get around New York as the subway is just down the road. The only thing I would say to be aware of is that there is no windows. We couldn't really use the backyard at the time so made us feel a little boxed in. There was 2 of us staying which was great, not sure how 4 people would go in such a small space. But I guess when you're in NYC who wants to spend time inside anyway?! I would recommend this listing. Very good communication!

Comments: The apartment has very good location: 2 minutes to subway, 25-30 minutes to Time Square, 10 minutes to Atlantic Terminal. The neighborhood is quiet, safe and nice, there are lots of cafes and shops: mcdonalds, tacos, bagels, supermarket and others. Room has separate entrance with electronic locks, which is absolutely great and convenient! We were able to access the room just when we arrived. Main room and bathroom were very clean, cosy and modern, it has absolutely everything we needed and even more: hair dryer, safe, fridge, toast oven, AC adapters and more! W-Fi was fast and stable! As this is basement the ceiling was lower than I am used to, but it wasn’t a problem for me. Also sometimes there were a bit noisy at evening and night, but still it was okay and didn’t disturbed much, we had a good sleep at that large bed! Andrew is very friendly and sympathizing! We enjoyed our stay and very gratefull for helping us making this trip come true! We are absolutely satisfied and give it all 5 stars out of 5! Thank you!

Comments: I had to find a place for my family to stay while we had some work done on our apartment in Brooklyn. We knew we wanted to stay close to our home for convenience purposes and also because we love this neighborhood and knew that we could have anything we wanted/needed at our fingertips. Andrew's home was warm and inviting while easily sleeping my family of four. He and his family were very responsive when we had questions or needed something. We even had a safe place to keep our strollers. My kids love to read and all of their favorite books were there in the flat for our pleasure! Lots of great grown-up books, too. We even got to enjoy the beautiful backyard a little bit! The location of Andrew's home is so close to convenience stores, restaurants, subways and our favorite, Prospect Park! Highly recommend this location! Happy travels!

Comments: Pros: 1. the host is extremely responsive and responsible when the problem occurs. 2. the bathroom is clean and nice. 3. the room looks like the description. 4. there are some good restaurants around the apartment. ex. a good Thai food, a nice brunch. 5. five minutes to subway station. Cons: 1. the water came in to our room during heavy rainy day. (but Andrew refunded our stay afterwards.) 2. there is no window in the room (but if you don't stay indoor for long then it will be fine.) 3. the electricity of the room goes overload sometimes particularly if you turn on the oven.

Comments: My husband and I spent 8 days in New York. We arrived a Saturday night and checking- in was very simple. The room is very accessible and privet. We loved having the ability to come and go freely without disrupting Andrew and his family. I was happy to see that the room was just as the pictures; clean and in order. It had a all the essential (mini fridge, coffee maker, toaster oven , microwave) he also provided us with towels and some toiletries. There is no TV which I was a bit upset about at first but that's just my personal way to relax after a long day, you don't need a TV after everything you get to see in the city. The location is perfect, it's just a short walk to the subway that takes you right into the city. The community is great I fell in love, just around the corner you have a full street with lots of restaurants and shops. We also walked to Prospect Park ( about 5 blocks) the walk is very relaxing and the park is amazing. Andrew is very friendly and great at answering in a quick manner. Over all our stay was fantastic and if we get the opportunity to visit NY again we will definitely think of staying here again.

The flat itself was great – clean, with an easy-to-use locking system, lots of fantastic amenities (coffee maker, microwave, mini fridge, toaster oven, hairdryer, Brita filter water dispenser). The neighbourhood itself felt very safe, plus the apartment is conveniently close to a metro station, shops and places to eat. I'd recommend staying here to anyone wanting to check out Park Slope/Brooklyn, and I personally wouldn't hesitate to stay here again for a future visit!

Comments: I'd never used Air B&B before, and this was a fantastic introduction to the experience! The space was private and allowed for us to come in and out as we pleased; very cute and clean, with really nice touches like snacks and toiletries (as well as the coffee machine and kettle, which we made great use of). It was quiet and very close to the subway, which made exploring the city very easy. Our first night we had a minor issue with a broken bed slat and Andrew took care of it immediately, and made a great point of being communicative and checking in to make sure we had all that we needed.

Comments: The service and response speed of Andrew are great! And the room is as clean as expected. The location is good for both subway and eating. But I was a little bit disappointed for the fact that the room is underground. Besides, sometimes the room is noisy because the upper floor makes some noise, even after midnight. And you can feel the noise which is made by the subway train.

Comments: The apartment was great, very clean. The bed was comfortable, and the bathroom was clean and modern. There are nice touches like a Keurig with K-cups and a PUR water filter, plus snacks and dishes. The location is great -- close to several subway lines, plus shops and restaurants. There is a Rite-Aid a few doors down, plus a bagel place, pizza places, and bodegas nearby. Andrew and his wife were very responsive. The stairs down to the apartment are very narrow and steep, so you may have difficulty if you have a heavy suitcase or problems with stairs. Otherwise it's very comfortable.

Comments: Andrews place was great! Park Slope great neighborhood if you want something less hustle-y bustle-y —a lot of young families and great places right around the corner for a quick bite or if you need anything. The actual space was very comfortable (the AC unit was a huge plus, and the bathroom was spotless) however you do hear the subway pretty much at all times, which is to be expected for the location. The space also felt very large and very private. it’s a quick 20 minute train to downtown, and to get uptown takes you about 45, which doesn’t seem so bad if you’re familiar with public transit. Overall would recommend to anyone who is very comfortable with public transit and familiar with NYC, otherwise your uber’s may cost you a lot.

Comments: Nice, clean and spacious basement flat. Great location - minutes from the 4th Ave /9th Street subway (about 20-40 minutes into Manhattan) and minutes to loads of bars, pubs, restaurants and convenience stores. Only downside is that it is underground with no natural light. However the AC and dehumidifier keep it cool and dry - but these can be noisy at night, as can the fridge. Although there is a fridge and microwave it'd be hard to do more than breakfast or make sandwiches as there's no counter space or kitchen sink. Andrew's hospitality was fantastic - he replied quickly and got us replacement pillows straight away as I'm allergic to feather pillows. I recommend if you're looking for an affordable base from which to explore NYC.
