Comments: The Bali House is a wonderful serene and private place to stay. Iliani has worked hard to make it a complete get away experience. It feels like your own resort. My favorite part was watching the ocean from almost every room in the house and hearing the waves as we fell asleep.

Comments: This is such a beautiful House! In such a beautiful area! When we arrived we were expected and enjoyed a very warn welcome including lays! Fantastic way to start the stay. The Bali-house itself is just gorgeous, we felt more than at home. We are alredy looking forward to stay there again. Thank you for everything!!

Comments: Beautiful and well equiped house, fantastic location, so close to nature. Hidden beach for open minded souls across the street. Polite, hospital and friendly folks managing the property. Overall great experience and fully recomendable!

Comments: We visited the Bali House on a trip to celebrate our anniversary. It couldn't have been more perfect! Tim met us upon arrival and showed us the property. There was wine waiting for us in the fridge, which was lovely. The house is beautifully furnished and appointed in an exotic style with a beautiful Buddhist altar being the perfect heart of the house. There is a full kitchen, a hot tub and two separate sleeping areas. The hot tub was lovely for a soak after a day of exploring Volcanoes National Park. There is a washer/dryer which made it nice to be able to pack clean clothes before we headed to our next stop. There is a beautiful black sand beach across the street, but unfortunately we didn't get to spend time there - we will have to visit again! It's about 30 minutes to the nearest town, so if you are in search of a nightlife and party spot, this isn't the place for you. However, if you want to feel like you are literally in the middle of the rainforest you will love Bali House! We fell asleep listening to the surf and the frogs, and woke to the sound of rain on the roof. Everywhere we looked there was something new to see - baby pineapples in the garden, a friendly gecko in the bathroom (we called him/her Java!) and beautiful views from the lanai! Iliani was very helpful from the moment we first sent an inquiry about the house. She answered every question quickly and graciously. She and Tim are wonderful hosts and provided a wonderful retreat! I would highly recommend Bali House to anyone who would like to experience the Big Island up close and personal. I truly hope we are able to visit again! Mahalo! Julie & Dave

Comments: This house is pure magic. The decor is stunning and it had every amenity one could desire, from bathrobes and wine and chocolate, to snorkel gear and coolers for the beach, and even some amazing locally made cream for my sunburn :) Thank you Iliahi and Tim! I had a picture perfect two night stay for my birthday :)

Comments: Beautiful place right across the road from the sea. The road runs along the ocean and is a beautiful walk or drive. The house is very well furnished and set back from the road enough that you don't hear road noise in the house. Two bedrooms provide ample space for two couples. Great option for visiting the coast near Pahoa. IMPORTANT: Keep in mind that this area is very close to the lava activity just uphill of the town of Pahoa, and while we didn't have any problems that could change any time. There are no stores open in Pahoa, so you have to do your shopping in Hilo. Also there is no cellular service at the house (there is wifi and a landline phone), and (Hidden by Airbnb) Maps / Apple Maps gives incorrect directions to the address. You need to go to the south end of Hwy 130 and then double back on 137 about 3.5 miles to find the house.

Comments: What a wonderful place to be!! Everything was very clean and neat. The interior is just great done. When ever possible we will come back. The booklet in the house gave us very good advise what to do in the area. Big thanks to the hosts who made our stay comfortable.

Comments: perfec house for vacation! Anything you need or you want is there in the house.

Comments: The hosts were very welcoming. The neighbourhood had a very relaxed vibe and hippy feel. We enjoyed having the place all to ourselves. The lanai and hot tub were big hits with us. The frog sounds drove my husband a little nuts the first night but we bought ear plugs and that solved the problem.

Comments: We absolutely loved our week long stay here. The house and location are just as in the pictures. The house is peaceful, with beautiful ocean views and the decor in the house is amazing. Best airbnb rental we ever stayed at!! The house had everything we needed, from a well equipped kitchen, extra snorkeling gear, to a much loved hot tub (kids fave), a BBQ patch and washer and dryer. The black sand beach on walking distance from the house was beautiful and we could watch the dolphins play, but the surf and undercurrent were too strong for our 6 and 9 year olds. Instead we spend a lot of time snorkeling at the tidal pools at Kapoho Beach and swimming and snorkeling in the spring fed Ahalanui Beach Park, both reachable by car. As the location of Bali house is secluded, you need to drive to Pahoa for groceries (30 min drive), but for that you get a quiet neighborhood without being run over by tourists. On the same plot as the Bali house is also a small cottage. During our stay there was a couple staying there, but there is enough privacy. If you're with a larger party, renting the Bali house and cottage would be a perfect solution. Although many people made comments about the frogs, we kinda loved the background noise when falling to sleep (and they are not your usual frogs ... More like birds)

Comments: Tim was waiting for us at the gate to the lovely & peaceful Bali house. He then gave us a tour familiarizing us with the property. There was a bottle of blush wine and glasses chilling in the fridge. The house is right across from the ocean facing easterly so we watched beautiful sunrises and a splendid full moon reflecting off the Pacific. We rested well here and spend our days exploring the beautiful island. Thank you Iliahi and Tim for making your property available in this way. We preferred this private setting to a resort and recommend it.

Comments: Our host met us when we pulled up and gave us great instructions on how to reach the home. Everything was furnished with great care and pride of the culture. We were comfortable and peaceful. Tim shared with us some of his personal favorites. We had two couples and had plenty of space and privacy. Thank you for making our vacation memorable. (The erupting volcano was a bonus)

Comments: Wonderful stay at the Bali house! Everything was better than described!

Comments: My husband and I had a fabulous start to our honeymoon at the Bali House. It is a unique, remote and special place to stay. If you are hoping to leave behind your day to day lives, this is the perfect spot. Be sure to visit Kapoho. We loved the tide pools and the neat community. Driving the Red Road is an amazing visual experience. Kehena Beach is really something else! You can never guess who you will find enjoying the waves and the black sand. It's the shortest of hikes/easy climbs from the Bali House to the beach. Watching the volcano erupting at night was a tough trip for these East-Coasters (we found ourselves retiring uncharacteristically early), but was a major highlight of our time on the Big Island. Tim and Iliahi were incredible hosts, ready to help at a moments notice. We would highly encourage you to consider the Bali House for a complete escape in Hawaii.

Comments: We had a great stay! Loved all the Kona geckos on the property and the beaches are gorgeous. The people in this area are so friendly and chill.

Comments: This was the pretty much the perfect way to finish up our time on the Big Island. If only there wasn't so much to see and do we would have been quite content to stay in and luxuriate in this amazing Bali House. The attention to detail was perfect and Iliahi and Tim have truly created a special little hideaway to relax and rejuvenate. With a friendly welcome from Tim and the generous sharing of local sights to visit, we felt very well cared for. The house has everything you need for a hassle-free stay, including regular visits from our gecko friend (unimaginatively named Gordon!) and the unusual serenading from the coqui frogs. Mahalo Iliahi and Tim for your generosity and aloha.

Comments: The Bali House was a great place, the house is wonderfully decorated and full of places to hang out and relax. Tim and Iliahi were great hosts, leaving us a great welcome packet full of things to do and explore in the area.

Comments: We had a fantastic experience at Bali House. Tim greeted us upon arrival and oriented us very comprehensively to the house. Our hosts were extremely welcoming, gracious and helpful. The home is exquisitely decorated, with amazing attention to detail. It was immaculately clean, very spacious and well equipped. The kitchen, bathroom, hot tub, and hammock were really great. The location is terrific, right across the street from beautiful Kehena Beach, you can see the ocean right in front of the house. The sunrises from our lovely bedroom were absolutely gorgeous! We had complete privacy the entire time. What a blissful experience, we definitely plan to return.

Comments: What an amazing place! So unique. The house location is away from it all yet only 15 min to anything you would need. A great homebase to explore the south and east side of the island. Equipped with all the modern luxuries and a fantastic shower. Tim was a great host and met us when we arrived to show us the place and talk about the surrounding areas. I can't recommend the Bali House enough!

Comments: We loved staying in the Bali House! Such a wonderful retreat. The house is lovely, full of perfect details and super comfortable. Jim and Iliahi are wonderful hosts. Anytime we needed anything, they were super responsive. And they had lots of tips and suggestions for things to do. We went to Uncle Robert's on Wednesday night and had a fantastic time. Kehena Beach is practically across the street, and is beautiful. We saw dolphins swimming out in the water, and the beach felt private and secluded. The Bali House is a perfect home base to explore the Puna Coast and Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. We had so much fun, and hope we can come back. Wholeheartedly recommend.

Comments: We had a wonderful stay at the Bali House for the last half of our honeymoon! The house is GORGEOUS and the view and proximity to the beach was perfect. We fell asleep listening to the waves every night and woke up to the waves in the morning, it was perfect! They had beach towels and snorkel gear to use and the kitchen was perfect for making breakfast and would have been perfect for preparing dinner if we had had time! It is right across the street from the beautiful black sand beach-Kehena Beach. Tim greeted us upon arrival and gave us a quick tour and some great recommendations for places to eat and explore. We did not get to see Tim or Iliahi again but we still had a fantastic time! The house feels like it's in the middle of the rainforest even though the beach is across the street! The house is a bit out of the way for exploring, but it was worth it to come back to such a beautiful place! Thanks for such a great stay!

Comments: Tim and Iliahi were wonderful hosts--Tim was there to greet us upon arrival, get us situated, and then gave us all the information and space we needed to have a nice, relaxing, adventurous visit to the Big Island. The Bali House was stunning and unique, with an incredible view just across from a beautiful local black sand beach. Looking forward to a return visit some day.

Comments: The Bali House is incredible! We loved every minute of our stay- from the hot tub, to the various spots in the house (indoor and outdoor) to enjoy meals and drinks. The design of the home is welcoming, inspiring and so peaceful! The beach right down the trail from the house is a spectacular black sand beach and everyone is extremely friendly.

Comments: The Bali house was amazing! My wife and I spent 4 nights there as part of our 10 year anniversary trip to several Hawaiian Islands. We loved the style and cultural feel of the place! Very calming and relaxing. The roaming geckos were cool and the sounds of the coqui frogs at night and the very light but short rain spurts let you know you were in a tropical rainforest environment. The architecture and decorations are very unique and fun to explore and admire. We got there at night and had trouble figuring out the gate but we contacted the hosts and they got us in within a few minutes and gave us a guided tour They were always available and helpful! The Kehena beach across the street was beautiful. Great privacy to watch the amazing sunrise before 7am. Not a place to swim if you are not s strong swimmer because of rough surf and strong undertow but breathtaking place to hang, get a tan, and a quick dip. We frequented Uncle Roberts Awa Bar 3 miles down the road to eat daily and had a blast there during the Wednesday evening market where hundreds of people from over the island come to eat, sell goods, listen to music, drink, and dance. The active lava flow is only 4.25 miles from Uncle Roberts, but you have to walk there on a stone trail or rent mounting bikes. Rent the bikes! The trip is totally worth it and no need to pay for a tour when you stay at the Bali house because it is so close! We also ziplined the Akaka Falls just north of Hilo with a zipndip tour. Totally worth it! We also toured Volcano NP which were both only an hour away. If you want to have adventures yet stay in a private and romantic place away from crowded tourists then choose the Bali House!

Comments: The Bali House is like a fantasy from a dream. If ever you have read stories of the Pacific or seen movies, you will feel especially transported. We didn't get to meet Iliahi, but she was lovely on the phone. We did meet her husband, Tim, who greeted us and took us on a tour of the house and property. He was truly genuine in making himself available if we needed anything during our stay and offering for us to eat any fruit we found on the property. And Iliahi and Tim kindly swapped out the greeting bottle of wine with papaya and pineapple from the grounds since we don't drink. They were incredibly fresh and sweet! So if fruit is in season during your visit, trying them is highly recommended. The house is pretty indescribable; the photos do it the justice words can't. It is a magical construction, with everything needed for a memorable stay. We were able to prepare meals in the well-appointed gourmet kitchen, and we slept great. The location is excellent for enjoying and exploring the whole Puna region, and really the rest of the island, for that matter. The part of the property and stay that we enjoyed and appreciated most was the incredible night-time stargazing and the most densely-visible Milky Way we've seen anywhere (and we've had excellent viewings in Australia, Colorado and the Adirondacks). You can actually see the full arch of the Milky Way from this location, which we had never encountered before, so we appreciate Iliahi and Tim sharing their home.

Comments: We stayed at three different locations on our trip and this was hands down my favorite. I have already told my boyfriend this is EXACTLY where I want to stay when we come back. The cottage is exquisite and many extras were already provided. Our host provided a very informative manual about the area, and gave us a tour and told us about the things travelers actually want to know. Where the cool party is, where the secret beach is, etc. But the location is what I was most grateful for. You are literally right across the street from the path to a beautiful beach, about 30 minutes from the mesmerizing volcano park, and while we didn't get to explore it, downtown Pahoa seemed like a good spot for a chill night out. The beach is accessible by a rocky path, so I don't recommend for anyone who has unsteady footing. Also, the cottage has many gold dust day geckos, which some people may not like, but I adored. They are beautiful and our host mentioned how to win their favor so I had fun interacting with them. Ocean sound and coqui frogs at night, ocean view from bedroom.

Comments: The Bali House absolutely made our trip to the Big Island. We loved it here in every way; so much so, we found a way to change our plans midstream and stay another night! Iliani and Tim were outstanding hosts. Tim met us and gave us a tour of this truly unique place. It is a beautiful and unique house with just about every amenity you could want, stationed just across the street from the ocean and a secluded black sand beach. The house was well-appointed and functional but also truly unique with its layout and decor. It's shaped like a boat with the kitchen and dining area on one end, a sunken living room and a loft bedroom on the other end. Walking through to the back reveals a great open stone shower, private bath and a full second private bedroom that makes you feel immersed in the jungle. Out front there is a hammock which we enjoyed for hours, as well as a jacuzzi that was perfect at the end of each day. There was also a small patio out back and washer/dryer for handy laundry. This location is off the beaten path for sure; but we loved going into Pahoa which is only about a 15-minute drive. Great local eats and coffee there. From this location we did day trips to the Kapoho tide pools, to Hilo and to the Volcanoes national park. Our location added a bit of distance but it was trivial and the reward was to post up at this truly special location each night. Making fresh coffee in the morning and seeing the sunrise with the occasional rain shower only added to our fond memories here. Tip: be prepared that Coqui frogs are pretty loud at night! They add to the rainforest ambiance but they also don't let up until dawn. You get used to it, but definitely advise earplugs. And do yourself a favor and be sure to get up for sunrise a few times. Worth it 100%. We will be back! (there is a second guest cottage on property - very private - and we hope to bring friends and rent that out too). Best possible review here. Highly recommend - thanks Tim & Iliani!

Comments: This is a truly magical space to spend any time. The airy, unique home is immensely comfortable. Tim graciously checked us in, and gave great recommendations. The bathroom was luxurious, the bed so comfortable, and the hot tub a real treat. Every aspect of this space is dreamy. So proximate to the local beach where a drum circle rages with delightful freedom on Sunday. I couldn't give a more glowing review!

Comments: The Bali house is absolutely beautiful! It's just as the pictures show. Quite a relaxing place and a very well done house - comfortable, well laid out & exquisitely decorated! The master bedroom faces the ocean and it's just lovely waking up to the ocean sounds. The frog sounds are pretty loud at night but a wonderful way to fall asleep. There are a lot of geckos crawling around everywhere - they're harmless but if you're bothered by any of that just keep in mind they're everywhere on the walls in the house. The location was perfect for us - we didn't realize until we got there that the lava flows from Kilauea are just a few miles down the street. It was an easy drive and we had a great time biking and seeing the lava flows up close and personal on our very first night in. There are also tide pools 10miles from the location that are just perfect for snorkeling - absolutely beautiful! We also enjoyed walking to the beach across the street. The location is secluded but close enough to a number of excursions. The town of Pahoa is only 15 mins away and a great place to grab food - we loved having breakfast at Pele. We also drove to Hilo a few times, went to the Volcanoes national park & Mauna Kea from here and the drives were not bad at all. Great location & a beautiful getaway house!

Comments: The Bali house was great! My wife and I spent 5 nights here for our honeymoon. It is very private and very quiet. We loved having the beach across the street. Comments: Such a beautiful house! We stayed here for our honeymoon and 4 nights was just simply not enough! Can't say enough about how beautiful the house is... just simply enjoy that if you get the pleasure to stay here! The black sand Kehena beach is literally across the road (but you have to negotiate a semi-difficult climb down some rocks to get there, it's easier to get back up) and it's a clothing optional beach (not creepy - but good to know!). Lava flows are really close - but - get ready for a long hot walk to get there and back!! Kitchen is well stocked to make your own meals. So many places to just back and relax when you're there. Thank you so much for an amazing stay!!

Comments: A nice place to stay to enjoy the relaxed atmosphere of Pahoa. Enjoyed the home's architecture and thoughtful amenities (having a rice cooker to use was a nice touch). Snorkeling in the nearby tide pools was our favorite part of the trip. Also the star-gazing from the patio was the best I've seen.

Comments: The Bali House was the highlight of our trip to the Big Island. Nestled near the lava flows and along the Kalapani-Kapoho road with a full view of the ocean, living in the house was pure escapism. The house is lovely in both design and function. It is very easy to relax here. Despite the remoteness of the area there are lots of nearby activities: visiting the volcano, plunging into the Kapoho tidepools (highly recommended as it seems a lot of people are not aware of its existance), tree tunnels along the Kalapani-Kapoho coastal road, gorgeous scenery and much more. Tim and IIiahi are terrific hosts and highly recommend anyone to visit and stay for several days at minimum, as the place really grows on you.

Comments: A few days at the Bali House was the perfect ending to our honeymoon. It was so relaxing to sit outside and enjoy the view and sounds of the ocean. We stopped on our way to get some groceries at Tim's suggestion, and enjoyed making breakfast each morning in the well-equipped kitchen. The location is great to stick closeby at Kehana Beach or meet up for the Kalapana lava tours at the end of the road. We also did a day trip to Volcanoes National Park, which was an easy drive. I would highly recommend the Bali House to anyone who is looking for a relaxing, comfortable spot in a laid-back part of the island. Tim was very helpful during check in and available for any questions. We hope to make it back for another visit some day!

Comments: We stayed 2 weeks at this property. The first week in the cottage, please see our review, and the 2nd in the main house, here is that review... Thank you again Iliahi and Tim for hosting us in your spectacular home. This was a special and long anticipated visit. We were in no way disappointed. This property is so beautiful and welcoming, with great thought put into guest comfort. From the high quality linens to the well stocked kitchen (we cooked most of our meals), everything we needed was available. The location is special, you can hear the waves crashing day and night, watch the sun rise from the lanai, pick limes and mangoes from the garden, enjoy the geckos dashing about, walk down to the black sand beach just a few yards away. Really just a tropical paradise, without the crowds and tourists. Remember your earplugs for the coqui frogs at night and you will have a magical stay at Bali House

Comments: Beautiful home with lots of amenities! Loved the beach across the street and access to coconuts in the garden. Thought the frogs were very loud at night, but not the hosts' fault! Would love to stay at this home again

Comments: This is a bit out of the way and wonderful for that if it’s what you’re going for. The beach right across the street, the sounds of the jungle at night with waves crashing in the background - simply amazing. The house itself is crazy wonderful. The host’s recommendations are very good! Wish we had had one more day to just relax at the beautiful house!

Comments: Great location. Very lovely they were very nice host. My only complaint is the other small rental. You can hear everything and it is literally a few steps away. But still a great place to stay.

Comments: The Bali House is a one of a kind, transcendental experience that enables its inhabitants to both time travel and travel the world all at once. Calling it a house does not do it justice; rather, it is a vessel designed for self exploration and rekindling of our universal connection with nature. Virtually every nook and cranny of this property is worth photographing. My wife and I were lucky enough to book this stay while it was available, and it ultimately created an experience we will likely never forget. Tucked away on the southeastern side of the Big Island, this gorgeous estate offers an off the beaten path opportunity to embrace the true concept of Hawaii while soaking in the splendor of feeling alive. From fresh pineapples, limes, coconuts, papaya, etc. (depending on the season), to a well rewarded hike down to Kehena Black Sand Beach, as well as out of this world views of the nocturnal red glow of the magma that the Goddess, Pele, has extracted from deep within Earth to grow her lush paradise, the Bali House will certainly not disappoint. Tim and Illiah are exceptional hosts. They truly have dedicated their lives to create an experience that everyone should share. Additionally, if you're lucky enough to run into the keeper of the grounds, absolutely take time to chat and pick his brain. He was a delight to converse with, and his botanical tour was definitely a highlight of our stay. We will likely book here again in the near future.

Comments: My wife and I had an exceptional stay at the Bali House! The house is exquisite, unique, and quite large with gorgeous views. It's even more beautiful in person and very peaceful. We only met Tim who gave us a tour of the house and recommendations. - The bed, sofas and chairs were very comfortable - The screened-in balcony was amazing - Awesome hot tub - Lots of amenities (safe, sunscreen, scuba gear, beach chairs, board games, etc.) - Full kitchen (everything you could need including a dishwasher) - Samsung washer and dryer - The Roku was a great added touch - Professional WiFi system (multiple APs with cloud-based management) A few things to note: The gate is a bit of nuisance; unless you're driving a small car, you'll have to pull over to the side somewhere down the road and get out to close or open the gate. Ideally, a sliding gate would be installed but even a better place to pull in front of the gate would have been appreciated. The Kehena Black Sand Beach requires going down a rather steep hill with rocks. We went in flip flops and hands full the first time not knowing about it. So be aware of this and wear shoes. Highly recommend the Bali House for anybody looking for some solitude on the South East side of the Big Island.
