Comments: I really enjoyed staying in Grandpa’s Cottage. This was my first time staying in an airbnb, but it was also my first trip to Hawaii. I felt very welcomed by the host family. They kept checking in on me to see if I was alright and that everything was well. They managed just the right amount of assistance while allowing me all the privacy I wanted. The location is great. It’s a short walk to downtown, and the beach is close, too, but I preferred to drive there. Clean with a comfy bed. I even got used to the sound of “palm trees waving”. I have already recommended this location to friends.

Comments: Christian was a wonderful host, accommodating to the slightest request. He kept to himself most of the time, but was readily available when we needed something. The place was clean and perfect for myself, my partner and our 5 month old daughter. It was a short drive to Kailua and Lanikai beaches, as well as the Pillbox hiking trail. Really really great breakfast places were within a couple blocks, Boots and Kimo (Macadamia Sauce Pancakes), and Cinnamon's (Carrot Pancakes and Fritata omelet). The small kitchen was ample enough for us to cook a steak dinner with mashed potatoes our last night there. Wallgreens, Whole foods and a bunch of coffee shops were walking distance including a place called Chadlous that has the best ice cream cookie sandwiches (ube ice cream with the chocolate chip cookies was the right choice). We loved the area, far away from tourists but close to everything you need. highly recommend Grandpa's Cottage, it felt like home.

Comments: Location, location, location!! Absolutely perfect place. Lots of things within walking distance, including one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Cozy and welcoming. Comfy bed. Christian was a great host, even though we didn't run into him at all, he was quick to respond to any inquiries we had. The cottage had pretty much everything we needed. The only thing I could think of that it could use was an iron (unless it was somewhere in there that I missed). Highly recommend the spot. The fact that it has a dedicated parking spot was definitely a bonus. Would definitely come back, and seeing as my girlfriend is from Oahu, we're likely to come back!

Comments: This was our first trip to Hawaii and our first Airbnb experience. It was an ideal location for experiencing the Kailua area and base for exploring the rest of the island. Grandpas cottage is perfect for a couple looking for a quiet place to relax during their holiday. Christian was a great host, always available to provide us with the info we needed about the local amenities and island destinations. We will definitely book again if our travels bring us here.

Comments: Christian was a perfect host: attentive but not intrusive. His "grandpa's cottage" is just 5 min by car from the wonderful Kailua Beach & equally close to Kailua center with its many shops, restaurants, etc The cottage loft has windows with tree views that give one the delightful feeling of sleeping in a tree house. New, attractive appliances, kitchen cabinets, shower, etc Especially appreciated was the reserved parking area steps from the cottage door. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Christian's cottage & recommend it for anyone who wants to experience time in a Kailua neighborhood.

Comments: Grandpa's Cottage is an excellent place to stay for a quiet and relaxing getaway. The place is beautifully located in Kailua, walking distance to restaurants and shopping districts, five minute drive to Kailua beach. The cottage is very clean, modern and cozy, perfect place for a couple to stay at. I highly recommend staying here.

Comments: My boyfriend and I had an absolutely amazing time at "Grandpa's Cottage." The cottage was in a perfect location (right by grocery stores, and the most beautiful beaches in the world), and was the perfect space to cook dinner, drink a glass of wine, and relax at the end of the day. The cottage had all of the amenities we could have asked for and more, and Christian could not have been a more accommodating and kind host. We definitely did not want to end our stay in Kailua!

Comments: Christian was a awesome host! The cottage was more than what we expected! The space felt nice and the neighborhood was just what we were looking for. It wasn't clustered with tourist and cars, but it was very mellow and homey. We felt like we were living with the locals and that was the exact experience we were looking for! I would recommend this place to anyone who is trying to have a nice and not so tourist like experience of Hawaii! We were walking distance from the beach! They also provided with boards and chairs to sit on the beach with! We couldn't ask for a better host for our first time in Hawaii!

Comments: Christian was a terrific host! Attentive but not intrusive was described in an earlier review - perfect description! It's a 5-8 minute walk to restaurants, shopping and the ever-indulgent Whole Foods Grocery! (There are less costly grocery stores also available). We walked to the beach (15 min) and the Farmer's Market (7 min), too. quiet neighborhood. The bed is the most comfortable we've ever slept in! The posted pics are spot on. You'll have everything you need inside and outside for the perfect place to stay. Thanks, Christian!

Comments: Grandpa's Cottage was a wonderful cottage in Kailua to stay in. Christian had nicely ensured that everything was clean and welcoming. There was a note from him upon entering that provided the basic contact information as well as the wifi password which made settling in very easy. Kailua is a beautiful smaller city that was very pleasant, and I was fortunate enough to be there for their local street festival which was an amazing way to get a sense of the community. Driving around Oahu from Grandpas Cottage was very convenient as I wanted to see the whole Island, and the major roads are extremely accessible. Christian was a lovely host who was very approachable and welcoming. I knew that if I needed anything then he would have been more than happy to help me out. Overall a fantastic host and location for travellers that want to experience an 'off the beaten path' vacation.

Comments: Christian was a very pleasant gentleman with a very nice family. The cottage is located in a residential neighborhood, is close to the main house and neighbors, yet is private. It was clean and neat and perfect for a couple. The loft bed was great with tropical breezes at night. Kailua is a very nice town much more mellow than tourist driven Waikiki....close to both beach and town restaurants etc. In summary two thumbs up!

Comments: Christian was an amazing host! Super helpful when needed but also provided us space. The listing was exactly as described, such a beautiful and clean cottage with ample space. The neighbourhood is quiet and comfortable, easy walking distance to stores/restaurants/beaches without the hustle and bustle of Waikiki. Perfect in-between location with about a half hour drive to the North Shore or Honolulu! Will definitely be back and recommend this spot to all our friends.

Comments: Accommodations were clean and comfortable. Christian was quick to help when we had a couple of small problems. There were many stores and restaurants within walking distance. The farmer's market was at the end of the street. The beaches in the area were beautiful and were grateful for the use of the chairs and boogie boards. Thank you, Christian.

Comments: I stayed there for 3 weeks with my daughter and we loved the place so much! The place is very convenient and close to the Kailua central area, where you find Wholefoods, Target, Safeway, Longs, and other shops, yet the cottage is located off the main street, so very quiet and safe. The place is maintained very well and clean, equipped with everything you need. Our host Christian was just so nice! When we needed more kitchen items such as extra pans (they have most stuff ready but we just wanted to enjoy cooking more), he kindly added items immediately for us. There's no AC but you don't need it at all, as you always get nice breeze from windows. We really enjoyed our stay there just like living in Kailua as locals. We definitely recommend to consider staying at this cottage! Thank you very much Christian!!

Comments: Great time in Kailua with Grandpa's Cottage. It was nice to have a separate bed loft with a comfy, large bed. Kitchen was totally adequate and appreciated. Great to have our own space.
-
Reviewer: Ryan
Comments: This place is perfect. There is a big bed in the loft, which helps create a separation between the living area and bed room. The kitchen has everything you will need, along with christians beach chairs and boogie boards. Its nice that you get your own parking spot as well, you dont have to worry about where you are going to park. It is very close to down town, so you can walk everywhere, it is also very close to the beach, I personally liked the beach more than Waikiki, only because you aren't towel to towel. This part of the island does get a little bit cloudier but hop in the car or bus and you can get to another beach that is clear and sunny in a couple of minutes. If you are lucky enough to book this place I would highly recommend it.

Comments: Christian was a great host, very friendly and very accommodating especially for our check-in/out times. We used the boogie boards and had a lot of fun using them at Kailua beach. We went to a few beaches and found that Kailua beach had the nicest sand and it wasn't packed with people. The town has a great rental shop where we rented paddle boards and was within walking distance (5 min) to the beach (they gave you karts to pull the boards). Short drive to go grocery shopping and a short walk to restaurants. Even though there was no a/c it was comfortable at night. He rented us his car which helped us explore the island at a very reasonable rate. I Would definitely recommend this rental to anyone staying in Oahu. Thanks Christian, we had a blast

Comments: The cottage was perfect for us, it had a full kitchen and plenty of room. We stayed early May and found it rained in the morning and the evening with quite a bit of wind at night. It is a warm rain. We really enjoyed the sound of many different birds singing in the morning. Windows on the second floor stayed open all the time for a nice breeze and a ceiling fan kept it cool. The only thing we missed was local television, there is a tv that you can watch movies on but not news or local channels. Many wonderful restaurants and Kailua Beach is beautiful. Bedroom is on the second floor which makes a small place roomy. It is a King sized bed and very comfortable.

Comments: I stayed at Christian's place for 6 weeks during the summer when I got a summer job in town. I could not have asked for a better place and a nicer host! It was a perfect location for a long stay in Oahu. It was super close to grocery stores, shopping, beaches, and access to highways to travel and explore the island. The bed was super comfy and the kitchen and bathroom were no-nonsense and perfectly functional. I highly reccommend staying here! We hope to return next summer!

Comments: Christian is an amazing host - super friendly and really helpful. He provided us with everything we needed for a great stay in Kailua and was on hand to answer any questions we had or add to anything that was missing in the house that we needed. The house feels much bigger than it seems in the ad - the bed upstairs is HUGE - my husband and I had the best sleep we've ever had while staying here! The kitchen is small but it does the job - we cooked at home almost every day during our 30 day stay and managed fine. The location is great - just a few minutes drive/bike ride from town where you can buy groceries or eat out etc. There's also a huge park nearby with free tennis courts and a swimming pool. There are 3 beaches just a 10 - 15min cycle away (our favourite was an access to Kailua beach just before the main beach park). I would definitely stay here again!

Comments: It is a quiet area. You have your privacy since you have the whole cottage to yourself. Close to everything! You can walk to a gas station, Whole Foods and pretty much any store in Kailua. We had a car so we were able to go everywhere in the island. Easy transaction and check in. Christian is flexible. You have everything that you need in the cottage for cooking, eating, cleaning etc. There are beach chairs and an umbrella you can use for the beach. There is also a shower outside the cottage to rinse yourself before coming in, surprisingly water is warm! The place is very clean. The bed is huge in the upstairs. Plenty of space in the closet. Ceiling fan helps and there are other 2 fans you can use if feeling hot; also you can open windows and close them before you leave the cottage in case it might rain. Christian is easily available if you have questions. I didn't need much since I've been in Kailua several times. I recommend this place!

Comments: Third time staying at grandpas cottage and it is always amazing. Will continue to go back! Great location, wonderful loft space, and very private. Having a kitchen is a plus on nights you don't want to go out and there is everything that you need including towels, bikes, outdoor as well and inside shower, beach umbrellas and chairs etc. Hearing the birds in the morning is the best! Read the book Hawaii that is there! See ya next year! Thanks for another wonderful stay!

Comments: We loved staying here, it was a perfect size for two adults. The bed was super comfortable and with the upstairs windows open an amazing breeze blows through the room. The central location was perfect for getting out and exploring the island, with down town Kailua just minutes away. The beaches in town were absolutely beautiful and had a ton of water activities available. Communication with Christian was smooth and accurate. I would highly recommend this place to anyone wanting to visit and not feel like they are staying in a touristy spot.

Comments: This was our first Air B&B experience & it was wonderful! Communication with Christian was extremely fluid. He responded promptly with answers to all of our questions. Photos of Grandpa’s Cottage are very accurate! Upon our arrival, instructions regarding parking & check in were extremely easy to follow. The place was stocked with all the necessities to accommodate our stay. For example, lots of toiletries including shampoo, conditioner, soap, toilet paper, clean beach & bath towels & linen. There were also extra pillows, sheets & bedding available for use. The kitchen included a small fridge, stove, all the dishes/cooking utensils & silverware. Also had paper towels, paper bags, trash bags, sandwich bags, etc. We found everything we needed & more! Christian also provided beach chairs with an umbrella & a cute newly purchased patio set that made outside sitting very enjoyable. We also used it to hang our bathing suits for drying. Additionally, he has an outdoor shower & a spigot to ensure you wash all the sand off before entering the cottage. We had a huge king size bed upstairs with closet space, hangers & a nice little nook area. There were books to enjoy as well. Our favorite part of upstairs was opening the windows at night to enjoy the natural cool breeze & the ceiling fan was a huge plus during the day as it got a bit warmer! Grandpa’s Cottage was a bit tight considering we’re from Texas (& everything is bigger in Texas lol) but it was perfect for the 2 of us & we thoroughly enjoyed our 11 day stay. Several times during our stay at 6am, we walked from the cottage to Kalama Beach which was about a 10-15 min walk. It was beautiful to know we were that close to a great beach! We also had plenty of eatery & shopping options in walking distance. There is a very clean laundry mat nearby that’s open 24/7 which was very useful. Christian was sure to respect our privacy & we were extremely happy to meet him a few days into our stay. He also made certain to visit with us upon checkout. He checked on us several times during our stay via Air B&B messaging to ensure we were doing well & had everything we needed. Super great hospitality! We will absolutely consider staying here again & strongly recommend you try it out.

Comments: This is a great place to stay, especially if you do not want to be bothered with a car. It is within walking distance to many interesting shops, restaurants and beaches and it is on the bus line if you want to explore other parts of the island. The cottage is very comfortable and has it's own private outdoor space. I would definitely stay there again!!!!!

Comments: Grandpa's cottage is clean, bright and full of the amenities you'd expect to have on hand for a good beach vacation. I didn't rent a car while I was in Kailua. There is a bike for guests to use, but I chose to walk everywhere - fantastic beach, 20 minutes away; stores and restaurants, 2 to 10 minutes away. And the stop to get on a bus to Honolulu is about a 3-minute walk. The location is so central and Christian is a genial, helpful host. I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again.

Comments: This is a cozy cottage that have everything you need for a vacation! First time in Oahu and we stayed here for 2 weeks (2 adults) . It’s clean, we felt safe and the bed is very comfy. Christian is a great host that quickly respond whenever we had any questions and gave us a lot of tip to get the best of the island. Kailua beach is about 15 min walk. Restaurants, boutiques and super markets nearby. We would recommend to rent a car (we used Turo, which was great) to see the rest of the island. Thank you again Christian!

Comments: We are a couple that enjoyed our stay for 8 nights. The cottage is as advertised. Cute, very clean and airy and bright even on the days when we got rain. The kitchen had all we needed with a stove that was good and we could use the broiler for toasting bagels. It has a great coffee maker and some various condiments available for use. Appreciated the bag of raw cane sugar and coffee. The fridge is small but sufficient and the freezer works just for the ice tray. The bathroom and shower were very nice and numerous good towels etc were provided. The sitting area has a comfy couch and although no cable, we had access to Netflix for the rainy evenings. The loft area is bright and so nice to sit looking out from the REALLY comfortable king bed. There's a closet to hang clothes and a set of drawers and a place to put folded clothes. There were good boogie boards and chairs, beach mats and towels for our use. Christian is very pleasant and responded quickly to any communications and was quick to provide a needed beach umbrella as soon as he could. The location is off a lane on a neighborhood residential street and is very quiet and private. It's a short walk to Kailua town which has a great feel with lots of stores, including Whole Foods and places to eat. The beautiful beach is 3 long blocks away and takes 10-15 minutes to walk. We would definitely stay here on a return visit.
