Comments: Our stay at this apartment was absolutely perfect! The space was even better than described. The apartment is full of old world charm with a balcony overlooking a beautiful garden. The apartment is located at a most ideal location, walking distance to many destinations (such as The Blue Note and the Comedy Cellar), as well as, a variety of excellent restaurants. The first floor of the building houses a theater and bar, where we spent a fun filled evening. Our hosts, Genie and Lorcan, were most charming, welcomed us with delicious tea and entertained us with interesting (Website hidden by Airbnb) about the building's history during prohibition. Overall we would rate this as a most wonderful experience and are looking forward to our next visit with Genie and Lorcan.

Comments: Lorcan and Genie were the ultimate hosts. This experience had everything, luxury, convenience, history and the opportunity to meet two delightful people. When we arrived Lorcan kindly took us into his home for a welcome drink and the opportunity to get to know each other. The apartment itself was grand with a great kitchen and rear balcony. it had natural light from both front and back. The location was superb for visiting all parts of Manhattan and also some of the best restaurants in the state. Lorcan runs a beautiful little theatre and bar on St Marks Place both of which he kindly invited us to enjoy. My boys loved the shows which Lorcan very kindly invited us to enjoy free of charge. I can't recommend staying at Lorcan and Genie's apartment more, it was super! Thanks so much, Chris and Caroline

Comments: Lorcan and Genie were extremely hospitable, greeting us with a cup of tea in their apartment on our arrival and regaling us with the fascinating - and occasionally shady - history of the building, which also now homes Theatre 80 and William Barnacle Tavern (where we enjoyed an excellent, and very welcome, Sidecar). My advice would be to check out the forthcoming schedule for the theatre in advance of your visit as there may well be something on that you wouldn't want to miss. The apartment itself is full of character, consisting mainly of one long, wooden-floored room with windows to the front and the rear courtyard, and a bedroom off to one side at the front. There are antiques, an eclectic collection of photographs adorning the walls and even a rocking chair for when you just want to sit down and read (although our schedule was a little too packed to allow for that). You also have access to a covered balcony, where, when the sun came out on Monday afternoon, we enjoyed an excellent pastrami sandwich from Katz's Deli, which is a just few minutes walk away and a definite "must" for anyone visiting the area. The location is very good, with a range of excellent restaurants, coffee shops and bars nearby. A few for particular mention (apart from Katz's) would include Saxon + Parole at 316 Bowery, Bluebird Coffee Shop on 1st and 1st, where they do a perfect "flat white" and is just a few doors down from Prune, where we enjoyed an excellent brunch, and the Clinton Street Baking Company, which serves - what we all agreed - were the best pancakes we'd ever had. We arrived on Halloween so understandably the party was in full swing outside and continued well into the wee small hours of Saturday. Earplugs came in handy! I always enjoy visiting New York and particularly so on this occasion with my wife and grown up daughters. The fact that Lorcan was more than happy to allow us to leave our bags in the apartment until later in the afternoon (we had an evening flight) meant that we were able to make the utmost of our all too brief visit. We had a wonderful time.

Comments: This is a fantastic place to stay, we couldn’t recommend it strongly enough. Lorcan and Jeanie were brilliant hosts who couldn’t have been more helpful or made us feel more welcome. Lorcan’s stories about his family history were fascinating and added to the whole experience, as did the bar and theatre which are adjacent to the apartment. The apartment itself matched the listing description, was fully functional and also quiet on a night time. The local neighbourhood also has much to offer, with bars and eateries in abundance. SoHo & Little Italy are only 20 minutes walk away. We would most definitely rebook.

Comments: I have had a lot of experience with AirBnB places and this is easily one of the best. The location is a food lovers dream with some of the best food in NYC just steps away, definitely recommend the Guidebook already made by Lorcan. The apartment is large by NY standards and had all the luxuries we needed including a balcony. The kitchen was well stocked and all we had to get was Meat and Veggies. Most importantly, the hosts, are absolutely brilliant!! You could spend days talking to them without even leaving the apartment. Easily the best hosts I have ever stayed with. Ultimately, stop reading this review and just book the place already!

Comments: I told Lorcan before I left yesterday that there were no hotels in NYC that could match the 5 star experience that my family and I had staying here. (And I work in the hospitality industry, myself). It was such a great feeling to turn the corner onto St. Marks Place and to immediately spot 'our place'. I never imagined how 'at home' I felt. My family never wanted to leave the neighborhood. It's the best neighborhood in NYC. Right across the street are 3 of the best restaurants in NYC, one of them (Xi'an) visited by both Andrew Zimmern and Anthony Bourdain. Lorcan's speakeasy is another story. Located on the 1st floor, William Barnacle Tavern is one of the highest rated bars in the area as well. On Tuesday nite there were traditional Irish musicians (about a dozen) who gathered around a table and played some awesome music. Jeannie and Lorcan are the most gracious of people. They are very much a part of this amazing community and so much fun to talk to. I will be coming back to New York many times in the future, and I'll always come here, and it will always feel like coming home.

Comments: You feel right at home from the moment you get there. The hosts, Lorcan and Genie are the best and welcome you to their home. I was travelling with my parents (who are in their early 60's) and they loved the place as did I. It's the best neighborhood in Manhattan. The location of the flat is excellent- lively neighborhood, which has everything you need, Whole Foods, all kinds of restaurants and bars. The apartment was really cosy and spacious, perfect for 3 people like us. There's a huge living room and also a separate Kirchen where you'll find everything you need for cooking. Would definitely stay here again if I had the chance. All in all, a great place to hang out at and very convenient location to explore New York!

Comments: We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here in the East Village. From the start Lorcan and Genie were the perfect hosts, they allowed us to check in early and showed us around their home. The apartment was wonderful, it had everything that we needed and it was more spacious than we expected. The location was absolutely perfect, it’s so peaceful in comparison to other parts of Manhattan and there was a huge variety of bars and restaurants within a short distance. We’d highly recommend this apartment and we will certainly come back if we need accommodation in New York again.

Comments: Lorcan and Genie were incredible hosts. They treated myself, my wife and our two young boys (9 and 5) like family the moment we arrived. Lorcan makes the absolute best Meat Pasties and the Crepes made in the bar downstairs are also incredible. The building and the Otway family hold such an incredible amount of history it simply can't be missed. I couldn't think of a better place to stay. The very clean and incredibly spacious apartment is situated in one of the most lively, and unique areas of Manhattan. The subway is within 6 blocks of the apartment making it very convenient to get anywhere you would like to go. We go to NYC every year and will try to stay here from now on.

Comments: Lorcan was a terrific host! The space was lovely, clean, and comfortable. It was everything he said it was and more. The deck space is lovely and includes a retractable awning. There is terrific and interesting art done by Lorcan himself all over the apartment (Lorcan will happily tell you all about it). Lorcan largely left us to our own devices once we got settled, but he was happy to make sure we had everything we needed. We would certainly go back. Perfect for a small group of friends or family that doesn't need too many separate rooms. I was here with some friends, but as the father of three, I can see a family with a child or two finding this apartment very easy to manage. I hope I get back some time. Enjoy!

Comments: Lorcan and Genie's place is a find! Within one block we had the best shrimp tacos, blueberry rhubarb soup, ramen, pizza, crepes in the window just below from an actual Frenchman... and that's just food! They were lovely hosts- knew the whole neighborhood and told us where to find shoes for my daughter right on the next block since she'd ruined hers on the trip. The place itself was full of history and character- and a floor-thru! The deck out back was beautiful- wish we could've stayed longer- will definitely be back if they'll have us! As far as amenities go it's a full apartment with kitchen, full bath- they even left a bottle of wine and an extra toothbrush. Plenty of blankets and there was not only the sofa-bed, pull out bed and a queen in the bedroom there was also an air mattress and plenty of space to use it. I'd say more but if you want a convenient NY neighborhood (it's a couple blocks to the 6 at Astor place or a couple more to almost any other train at west 4 or e. Houston). If my kids were very small Id have been worried about them with the antiques but it was perfect for us- could leave the teenager to sleep while I took the youngers to the bakery or to get coffee (Porto Rico importing company is on this block- the OG coffee shop!) all in all so glad they took our last minute reservation request- my kids got to see some of downtown and it was easy to pop up to midtown to see the touristy stuff they wanted and come back to rest ourselves to go out someplace awesome for dinner.

Comments: This place is truly a hidden gem. If you want to stay in East Village, Lorcan's flat is the place to be. Not only were him and his wife perfect hosts (they left us a bottle of wine + roses), but the location is perfect. The apartment is massive and there's a very nice balcony in the back. I cannot think of one thing negative to say about the apartment and our experience there.

Comments: We had such a lovely time in this space. A friend joined us for the weekend and we didn't have time to learn more about the buildings history, something I regret as it is a magical space. The hosts were quite warm and accommodating and appointed the apartment thoughtfully. It looks exactly like the photos, has a private entrance as well as a large balcony off the back. We slept on the street side and it was peaceful for us. Thank you for hosting us Lorcan! It was an idyllic weekend.

Comments: Just spent 3 nights here. Lorcan and his wife were thoughtful hosts welcoming us and giving us a brief history of the location. The area is why we chose this apt. The area is quirky, funky with great bars, restaurants and shops. The apartment is clean but not very furnished. We didn't think of this beforehand and the reviews don't mention it. This means that there isn't any sitting or lounging after a long day sight seeing. Just a long wood table and chairs and a rocking chair. If you are using the beds in the main area there is no where to sit. A couch and a comfortable chair would help. We couldn't really spend any down time in the apartment so any time spent in the apartment you have to stand or relax on a bed. The kitchen is functional but you really aren't going to do much cooking. The bathroom is old but clean. My wife prefers more modern bathrooms and a bit of luxury. A note to Lorcan, consider a box or 2 of Kleenex. It should also be pointed out that though it is considered a first floor walkup, there are 3 flights of stairs to walk up. They are rather narrow and steep and if you have mobility issues or young children it may be a challenge. All in all we had a fabulous weekend.

Comments: Very nice host, but the apt needs to be renovated. Only one real permanent bed, and no place to sit and relax - like a couch. Badly isolated windows resulting in lots of noice from the street and cold draft in the night. Bad plumbing makes it almost impossible to take a regular hot water shower. Sorry to write this review as the hosts are such nice people.

Comments: Great location. The east village has lots to offer, young or old. Very roomy. Totally private, the entire floor with a separate entrance from the owners flat. Plenty of towels & blankets, the balcony overlooks a courtyard where you can have a smoke if your so inclined and the Mayor can't stop you. A bottle of wine was waiting, nice touch. You won't be disappointed.

Comments: We loved the apt, and our hosts, who were ultra friendly and very helpful. Its a long knock-thru, with polished boards and a long table with bench and chairs to one side. Galley kitchen was good enough to cook Christmas dinner for 9 people, but serviceable rather than stylish. The helpful thing was that if we needed something, Lorcan simply pulled it out of his kitchen. The 4 poster in the bedroom creeks and the bathroom tiles have seen better days, but that is all part of the charm. If you need 5 star chrome, this is mot a good choice, but for us, it was perfect. We had three adult children on the trundle bed and an inflatable sleeping in the living room, which means that everyone gets up at the same time - no hardship. There is street noise - sirens, trucks, and New Yorkers socialising on the street, 3 flrs below. We had our windows open, as it was unseasonably warm. It is the Lower East Side, so the noise goes with the territory. Location is superb, convenient to transport, snd walking distance to shopping. Lots of deli's and coffee shops (again, goes with the neighbourhood, and a big plus). No soft chairs or sofas for watching TV, but we didn't turn it on once - too busy enjoying NYC. It is bohemian, and hence perfect for the area, and in my view a perfect AirBnB. We would stay again, for so many reasons - the apt, Lorcan and Gennie, the district. We loved our stay.

Moltes gracies Lorcan i Jane

Comments: We had a great time!! St marks place is really in the heart of east village, close to soho, close to union sq. so if you want to be central and eat at amazing restaurants without using public transports or cabs, this is the place. Apartment felt typical New York, old and charming interior, good kitchen and an amazing BIG balcony facing the back yard. Lorcan was a great host, he was quick answering questions or fixing small perks that came up. He even installed a AC in the bedroom since it was super hot in New York when we arrived. Our stay was 3 weeks long so after we left it felt like we left our home away from home. Thank you Lorcan!!

And what a location! Lots of life happening right next to us. Lorcan and Genie were wonderful people. They told us about the history of the house and invited us to visit the Gangster Museum in the same building but we did unfortunately not make it. A good reason to go back!

Comments: Lorcan's flat was spacious and clean and we really loved staying there. The spacious balcony is definitely a gem! The bed was good and the shower had enough pressure and hot water. The flat is located in a very old building so if you are super allergic to dust and mold, the staircase to the flat might not be your favorite. One cockroach had crawled in from the open balcony door, but since this is New York it's not really a surprise that those things live around old buildings. There are a million good restaurants just steps away from the apartment. Earplugs are recommended for Friday and Saturday nights as the bars are quite busy then. I would definitely recommend Lorcan's apartment to anyone who wants to stay in a lively neighborhood in New York.

Comments: Our group of 4 (two couples) had a great stay here! There's a bed for two, and then a set of twin mattresses that go to the same height. We loved sitting on the back patio in the morning to drink coffee or just enjoy the weather during a fantastic spring weekend in NYC. The space was huge, more than enough room for the four of us to relax and spread out. The East Village is obviously amazing, and there are lots of fun places to hang out, eat, and drink within 10 minutes walking from the apartment. I definitely recommend staying here, and the hosts made everything more enjoyable. Their communication was almost instant, and were flexible with our check in/check out. We stopped by the bar they run downstairs which was chill, and next time we will check out the Museum of the American Gangster they also run. Comments: Rarely does one get a feeling of spaciousness when renting a place in Manhattan, so imagine our surprise when we walked into this place. It's a long, open apartment with beautiful cabinetry and plenty of room for whatever you like. Best of all, it's above an absinthe bar, an old off Broadway theatre, and a great hot dog stand. We sat on the porch out back in the morning with coffee and soaked up some sunshine. Although we did not cook on our trip the kitchen was well equipped to do so. They are truly wonderful people who want to preserve the character of the neighborhood and their home has just the character to match! Enjoy

Comments: Lorcans place is truly an experience you should take time to enjoy - set in the best location in East Village, the room itself has so much history and character - a lot like Lorcan himself. Spend some time chatting with Lorcan and Jeanie - they are great hosts who have so much knowledge and such a great history that you'll be amazed at their great stories. Hope to be back one day.

Comments: We loved this location! So many great food options and great Nieghborhood! Lorcan & his wife we so quick to respond the blow dryer was broken and the got a new one immediately! The place is large and has a great patio to have coffee on. The large table sat our family we were meeting in NY we had many great meals there. We did not cook much but the kitchen had what we needed. There was a nice bottle of wine waiting for us when we arrived. We would definitely come back !

Comments: Lorcan's place is in a really vibrant area with lots of great places to eat and interesting small boutiques. The building has lots of historic interest and the apartment is spacious. He and his wife are very welcoming and gave us a tour of the former speak easy on the ground floor.

Comments: Great apartment and great host. We had our flight canceled twice, and we arrived at a different time than expected, and the communication with Lorcan was very good all the time. He responded quickly to all our messages. Checking in could not be easier. Very fair photos. We had very good time at Lorcan's spot and definetly recommend it. Positive points: - Location (fantastic neighborhood, close to great places and restaurants) - Lots of space in the apartment - Clean - Host always nearby - Amenities (a bottle of wine, coffee, eggs, butter) - Equipaments (wifi, coffee machine, cook top, refrigerator, Iron, hair dryer, umbrellas, TV) - The balcony (we had our breakfast there every day) Negative points: - Mattress was a bit noisy - Second floor but you have to climb three flights of stairs - Street gets a bit noisy on Friday and Saturday nights, but noise greatly reduces around midnight (honestly we were so tired that we slept quickly, even with the noise)

Comments: This is a huge space in the East Village. Lorcan was easy to communicate with and the place was very clean and comfy. The neighborhood is lively, interesting, and walkable, and it’s easy to get around on public transportation. A good location for families—our teenage girls loved being there! We would definitely stay there again on our next visit.

Comments: I stayed here with my family of 4. Amazing location -- only a few minutes walk to the metro, and close to many great restaurants, even right across the street. The history of the building is also really cool! Lorcan and Genie were very responsive and told us about the area. Our only complaints are that the twin beds are a little thin (we could feel the springs in the mattress) and the AC was pretty loud. Still, definitely worth it.

Comments: I have travelled a lot the last 40 years. From 5star Hotels to simple hammocks in the jungle. That’s why i prefer privacy. More than the most beautiful hotels with all it´s luxury . Lorcins place breathes history!!. His Kindness and hospitality are outstanding. And the neighbourhood is simply perfect . The apartment with the beautiful wooden floor makes you feeling home.

Comments: Ideally located in the heart of the vibrant East Village this is a lovely and cozy New York apartment. The living room is enormous and beautiful decorated with wood panels. The space is ideal to host a nice dinner (although being there for work I had no time) and the back deck/terrace is a MUST. Apartment was perfectly clean. Hosts are extremely flexible, accommodating and responsive to any questions or needs one has, and a bottle of wine was waiting... I’ll definitely come back!!

Comments: Well this apartment is not for those wanting ultra modern but if you want to stay in an historic building and experience New York life then this is for you. When we arrived Lorcan met us to store our bags so we could begin exploring. He introduced us to the Theatre downstairs and the local restaurants and bars. When we arrived back that evening to check in the apartment was ready and a guest package of Barry's Tea, eggs, milk butter and a bottle of wine awaited us. The kitchen is basic but there are so many places to buy food on the block to either eat in or take away this is not a problem. The area is buzzing at night with bars a plenty and one on the ground floor. Lorcan and his wife were hospitable, friendly and happy to help us in any way the could. We loved listening to Lorcan tales o growing up in NY.

Comments: Amazing location right in the heart of the East Village, close to great food, drinks, shops, music, etc. Lorcan was great - responded promptly, was accommodating and helpful. The apartment features incredible woodwork by him. He left plenty of towels and sheets. I didn't get to communicate with him or learn as much about the history of the place, but he provided everything needed. Beautiful and relaxing back deck. Kitchen and bathroom are definitely older and weathered, but on the other hand, the main living room/space is huge and impressive.

Comments: The place was what we needed and thought it would be. Great area. A lot of locals and restaurants and cool bars. We only got to stay 1 day because we were delayed out of Ohare, but glad we made it the last day. Very convenient area and good place to be in the city. I would stay there again. Thanks Lorcan!!

Comments: Imagine the polished wood floor and length of a dance studio, surrounded by the beautiful wood built-in's of a boat, all in the center of the East Village and being surrounded by history, and you have imagined Lorcan's airbnb. There is a private bedroom, lots of communal space (within the apartment), a fully functional kitchen, a great outdoor space, and a few extra items to make your stay special (bottle of wine, dozen eggs, butter, coffee, real half-and-half). This is the place to pretend that you are a New Yorker!
