Comments: My sister needed to stay in New York for an academic examination. I'm posting her experience staying at Funda's place below: Funda is sweet and friendly. Before I arrived, she gave me her phone number. Every time I asked the direction, she always replied and helped me. The train station to Funda's place was a bit far for me, about 15 minutes walk. But the neighborhood was very quite and safe. It was safe for me to walk alone at 10 PM there. When I arrived, she was very welcome. Her brother helped me to carry my luggage upstair to my room. The room was pretty big for 2 people. But I felt the bed sheet was not as clean as I expected and the odor suggests that it has been used by other person staying before me. Because it is already midnight, I didn't asked her to change it. However, in the morning I told her about the sheet and she apologized. She asked me to put the sheet in the kitchen and she said she will change it. There was also a bit problem with the water. When was I in the shower, the water suddenly stopped. But luckily I almost finished my shower. So it doesn't matter. I was going to stay there for 2 days, but a friend told me I could stay at his place because it is much closer to the place I took the English test. So, for the second night I didn't use my room.

Comments: The room looks the same like the picture. The house is close to public transportations and the area has a lot of shopping/dining possibility. Convenient system to receive keys. Kitchen and bathroom well stocked. No living or dining room. Funda was always reachable. Good place for budget travel.

On recommande !

Comments: Funda was great host, quick to answer any questions and good communications. The location of the house is great, there is a subway line nearby and it can take you directly to Time’s Square Central park and there are a lot of shopping and restaurants nearby the house. The room is comfortable, and when you just need a place to sleep and don't expect to spend a lot of time in there, it's just enough. Kitchen and bathroom well stocked.. Good place for budget travel We would recommend this place!

Comments: Yes she did. Simple but polite approach explained everything that needed to know. The place was quiet and convenient, very easy to commute into Manhattan which I needed due to my work.

Comments: we had a lovely stay at Funda's place. We met her once, felt very welcome. The neighborhood is great - safe and not far from the subway. I would definitely recommend her place to my friends.

Comments: I Love this room! Very quiet, very clean and very affordable. If you're looking for a place in NYC to stay this is it!! It's only 20-25 minutes to manhattan!! Funda is very responsive and generous!!

  • Reviewer: Melanie

Comments: Funda's place was great! I never actually got to properly meet her, but the expectations were clear and easy to follow. There was access to the kitchen and the bathrooms were very clean. It was great coming back here after traveling in cold NYC weather.

Comments: The room was great and the bed very nice. There were towels, big en comfie and also the kitchen got what you need. I just didnt use it because I was out all the time. Is's very easy to get to the appartement, 3 blocks away from the subway. The shopping street from astoria is also that many blocks away. It takes you 20 min to get to Manhatten which is a very nice ride with the subway. On your way to the sub you'll find a great little sandwich store! Def pass by it'll feed you for the whole day and isn't expensive. Walking back home at night felt very safe, I was traveling alone and it was perfect. I would really recommend this place! Thanks a lot!

  • Reviewer: Melissa

Comments: The location is perfect because it is a short walk to the subway to get to Manhattan. We had no problems at all, saw Funda only once and she seemed very friendly. It is also in a good neighborhood. When it comes to the house, it is a bit old and the house itself is not very clean.

  • Reviewer: Katie

Comments: I was really under the impression this was a home and we were renting a room but it's a house with 3 or more rooms, all which are rented by are rented by airbnb so a little different than expected but it was ok. We had a comfortable stay. The building is old and could used some updating. Overall was a good clean stay and very affordable. Only complaint: washcloths not provided and towels were old.

Comments: I really enjoyed my stay at this place. It was really well kept and easy to find. Furthermore, it was really close to the metro (N and Q line), and you also had a lot of restaurants nearby, so there was always something to do. I would definitely recommend this place to my friends.

Comments: I booked this room for my friend and he was very happy. clean and quiet place! Thank you!

Comments: I had s good stay at Funda's place. The room was the same as in the airbnb pictures. It was clean, the bed clean and convenient. The bathroom, although shared was clean as well. I did not use the kitchen as I came late and left early. It is 10 minutes walk from the metro, and the commuting time from the metro station in Astoria to Times sq. was about 26 minutes. But there was always trains, and I didn't have to wait long in the station. Also, the walk from the apartment to the station and back felt safe to me. Considering the low price, it's a good stay.

Comments: We had a good stay at fundas house. We doesn't meet her in person. It seems like whole is rented to Airbnb guests. The trashcab in the kitchen and in the bathroom (where you have to put in the used toilet paper!) was not made empty in the 3 days of our stay. The room was clean. The bed was comfortable. The sofas in the room was not clean (one was on really bad chape)

Comments: This apartment was an ok place to stay in New York, though for the price a few things would need to be improved to make it competitive. Pluses: Room was a good size Bed was comfortable Plenty of chairs and sofas to rest on Instructions were very clear, easy check-in and check-out Location was lively but not too loud, with public transport to the centre nearby. Minuses: No reply to emails (two sent over two months), however Funda immediately responded when called, so not a big issue. Nail heads poking out of the floorboards in the bedroom and kitchen - this ended up ripping my sock and hurting my foot, could easily be fixed. Window frames in bedroom were covered in electrical tape - windows appeared to be slightly open but could not be adjusted (opened or closed), letting in cold air and noise. Water was pooling underneath the floorboards in the kitchen near the sink. While cleaners were present and the place wasn't dirty, it was also not well-cleaned. In its current state, the apartment isn't at the same standard as others in its price range, however with a few improvements it would be a good place to stay.

Comments: Everything was OK, Funda was helpfull, we arrived at night and she called us to tell us, how we get to the house, beacause we didn´t read the instructions very well :-) . The house was clean, room was OK, bathroom next to the room. Subway - 10 minutes walking and then 20 minutes to the center. Next time I would stay here again.

Comments: The house is a little bit old, but the room is clean and comfortable. It's close to LGA airport. The only problem is that the host was not home and when I sent the message to her, she did not reply me

Comments: Actually we didn't see Funda or anyone else. Just because there was no need :) Beautiful, quite and secure region. Groceries and Coffee stations are nearby. Room was clean and nice. I think in our next trip we will stay here again. Thank you!

Comments: We stayed for 9 days to Fundas place , we are satisfied with the accomodation, the picture of the room was exactly the same on the house , she replied to our queries promptly , there is someone who cleans the rest room and kitchen everyday , and gave us new towels and sheets after 4 days , the cleaning lady is very accommodating , but the rest room you share to the other room would cause problem because you share the rest room / shower room to other people, on the other room of 6 people and the amenities like free coffee and hairdryer is only available upstairs accomodation but you can get it if nobody uses it, and there's no mirror in the room, perhaps ms Funda could provide one ,,

Comments: Pros: The location is good, it's a quiet neighborhood and it is in walking distance to train and bus stations. It also have really nice restaurants just a few blocks away. House is clean and easy to access. There was always paper towels, toilet papers, clean towels and hand soap available. It's great for traveling on a budget but there's always room for improvement. Cons: First night without a/c or fan and only one window could be open. The third night the a/c wasn't working properly (due to rain going inside the unit), I ended up turning it off and going back to the window option. There are skylights between the bedrooms and if one leave the lights on, the other room also illuminates (not fun when you're trying to sleep). I never had the chance to meet Funda, which I think would have been nice. A nail head is poking out of the floor by one of the windows, I stepped on it but luckily noticed it on time without getting hurt. The inside of the house is basically multiple rooms that are rented individually, this could be a pro or a con, depending on your taste on sharing spaces with other guests (e.g. having to wait for 3 or more people to use the bathroom before you can shower).

Comments: Me and my bf stayed in the room for the weekend. The neighborhood is quite nice and quiet, Funda gave detailed guidelines in the house manual and also inside the room. It's an old house and but the room is tidy, the only thing is the room is right next to another airbnb room, the re is less privacy.

  • Reviewer: Katie

Comments: Overall, I had a very nice stay. The neighborhood was safe, 10 minute walking distance from subway and near plenty of good food. The air conditioning worked well and the room was basic, but comfortable. Funda responded quickly and was helpful. She also provided towels and shampoo. I would definitely stay here again, although, I would bring my own sheets-- I wasn't 100% sure they were clean. Either way, I slept great. Bottom line: $50 (ish) a night for a safe room in NYC... I'll take it!

Comments: My stay at Funda's house was very good. From the very beginning to the very end I felt comfortable. Although I didn't meet the owner, I was provided with every details needed to enter a house and the room, how to use everything. The written briefing was clear, so I hadn't have any confusions. Public transportation is few minutes away, travelers can easily reach Manhattan in 30minutes.

Comments: It's a very old house and you hear every movement made. Our room was really cold and the radiator did not work. There was no seating area in the kitchen and the kitchen itself was not appealing. The house is rather far from Manhattan, will definitely pay more for location next time.

Comments: If you prefer sleeping in quiet and darkness, I don't recommend. If you're ok with a hostel-type situation, go for it. The room is huge (there are two couches!) and the house is immaculate. I was here for a week on business and the people in the room next to me (there were five or six people) were so loud late into the night (after 11-11:30ish). They slammed doors, stomped, yelled, etc. I didn't mind it on the weekend, but it was obnoxious on the weeknights. Fortunately when I contacted Funda she spoke with them. They were quiet. This also meant sharing a single bathroom between 6-7 people. That can be problematic. My last complaint is that, unless the neighboring room is unoccupied, you may not have the luxury of sleeping in the dark. There is, for some strange reason, an opaque window between the two bedrooms. My neighbors were night owls (whereas I had to go to bed for work) so there wasn't a single night that they were there when I was able to sleep in the dark. I had to put a shirt over my head. Like I said, Funda and Nelson were wonderfully. I would absolutely recommend the place for those who appreciate cleanliness and don't mind a very communal environment.

Comments: I stayed at Funda's place for board exams and the room had everything I needed. I would stay again. She let me keep my luggage near the door when my room wasn't ready yet so I would not have to waste a day in NYC dragging my luggage around. Room: The bed was very comfortable. It came with 4 pillows and I slept like a baby at night. There was two couches, study table, and a/c available in the room. It has everything you need if your the type to explore the city and come back home to rest at the end of the day. I got a room key so that my stuff will be locked and secured. Bathroom- I was given towels for my stay. Very clean bathroom, they cleaned it everyday. It was a walk-in shower. Transportation: It was a 4 minute walk to the 101 bus station or a 10 minute walk from the N/W train stations. About 15-25 minute subway to Manhattan. Other amenities: The kitchen was shared. I used the microwave and refrigerator and didn't have any problems with them. Entering in/out was convnient as there's a keyless entry. Wi-Fi was fast and never had a problem with it. Overall: Great value, quiet neighborhood, extremely clean Airbnb.

The neighborhood is very quiet, close to alot of restaurants and bars. There is a grocery store across the street, they have good bagels in case you had a lazy morning. Very close to the subway too. We will definitely come back if we decided to stay in Astoria again!

Comments: I had a wonderful time here! Not too far from the subway, and was a very quiet area. I've stayed in the area before and I used to hear the subway all night but this location was perfect! I think this is a great place to stay for someone's first trip to New York on a budget because the price is unbeatable and depending on the person, it allows them to kinda relax after a long day in the city with a lot less people in the area vs staying somewhere in Manhattan! Overall I had a wonderful time and would definitely stay here again!

Comments: Funda's place was exactly like the pictures. The room was very clean, comfortable and for the summer has a great AC. It was easy to find and the check in was a breeze. The location is great and very walkable to the subway. The price was perfect. Because there is other rooms also for guests be prepared that it feels a little bit like a small hostel. Though interaction with others is very limited, besides sharing the bathroom. If you have that expectation in mind then it shouldn't be a problem. If you want very secluded experience that's basically a private hotel, than this isn't it. Overalls as a single female solo traveler I didn't have any problems and felt relatively safe for being in a city. I would stay here again!

Comments: 5-6 rooms across 2 floors, 1 bathroom and minimal kitchen each floor; property is undergoing renovations as I type; property noticeably "more worn" than pictures show, with renovations addressing some of wear-and-tear issues; excellent communication during reservation process but not after arrival, even about serious maintenance issue (couldn't open our door; we were stuck inside until we figured a way to squeeze out then in). operates more like a boarding house than a "real" AirBNB. great location for us - near relatives and excellent places to consume food: Queens Room for coffee and more; Brooklyn Bagels for, well, *real* bagels; Loukoumi for the best Greek food and hospitality we've found outside of Greece.

But it is quite ok for those who want to spend just a couple of days in NY in a quite area but very close to Manhattan, just 10 min away by metro. It is a good value for money.

Comments: If you are on a real budget and looking for a cheap place to stay in a very over inflated airbnb market this place is probably a good place to stay in New York. But it is very basic and you should bear in mind there are a lot of other airbnb guests in the building , in particular next door is a room for up to 6 people which can make it quite loud and crowded if occupied. It is also a good 10-15 minute walk from the subway which might not normally be an issue but in the winter months when I stayed.

Comments: Check In is simple and a very easy bus ride over from LGA. Basic room, shower, and good WiFi.

Comments: I did not like the place and left after 1 day of my stay, Funda was co-oeprative and made full refund the days i did not stay.

Comments: Funda's place is quite basic and comes as described. Price-Value is very good for NY and the connection to the Times Square is easy (40 mins max., most of it is the relaxed ride on the metro). During our stay the window wouldn't close completely and was fixed with some foil. This was okay with the electric heater in the room but made the room always be a little drafty. We didn't meet Funda in person but she was really quick to respond when we needed help, for example to figure out that the shower would turn warm when turned up completely.

Comments: Funda’s place is awesome and worths it, the neighborhood is safe. The pre-arrival communication with funda was great that she responds quickly and answer all the question. After- arrival: the place is so close to LGA, ONLY took less than 10 dollars by taxi to get to the place. Pros: close to the airport, and able to self-check in, dishes/cooking supplies are provided - room conditions: great condition, bed is cozy and blanket is warm, able to lock the door, shared washroom is clean Con: the closet subway n/m lines close from Friday 111ish pm- Sunday evening, so if you wanna take subway, the second closest one is 30-min walk for E line. I took taxi. Also, it only cost $16 to get to soho by Uber pool. - room: I stayed in the first floor, so I heard some noise while people who lived in the second floor were walking. Other than that, everything’s perfect. Really worths it for people who wanted to live close to LGA. I recommend it.

Comments: It’s great for the price of the room. Needed an inexpensive place to stay for a few nights. Has more of a hostel feel than someones house. i could walk to the train in under 10 mins. Like that the train is the last/first stop, can’t get lost on my way to Manhattan! Took me about 45 mins to get to midtown.

Comments: This was a pretty no-nonsense place to stay while visiting NYC on a budget. It's easy enough to get to Manhattan on the subway from this place; if you're the kind of traveler who doesn't need a lot of guidance or hosting, this is a good place for you. You can check in and out easily without coordinating with the host. The whole place was clearly just an AirBnb and very minimally appointed, so if you're looking for a slice of home life it's not here. That said, it's hard to beat the price.

Comments: Highly recommended! We had a very pleasent stay at Fundas house, only 15 subway-minutes away from Manhattan in a very nice neighborhood in Astoria (Queens)! Cousy little bedroom, a kitchen and 2 bathrooms to use and fast wifi connection! Perfect for a citytrip you wont be in your room for long anyway! All that at a very affordable price! Communication with Funda also worked perfectly via (Hidden by Airbnb) /phonecalls, so thank you for everything, Serap & Peter

Comments: It’s good find for the price. Only if you’re staying by yourself.

Comments: This airbnb would have received 5 stars if it weren't for two huge issues. First, the wood around the lock on our door was chipping away badly. The screws to the lock itself were coming out and I had to push the screws in every time I wanted to close the door. Secondly, there were rusty nails sticking out of the floor by the foot of the bed. This is a terrible potential health problem.

Comments: Great place to stay if you don’t want to spend too much money! Easy access to Manhattan. The location is lively with lots of places to eat nearby. It’s also quiet at night. Funda responds within minutes, which is great and reassuring.

Comments: Hospitality of hostess and especially Johanna were absolutely outstanding. I can rave enough about how clean and accommodating Johanna was. She made sure that everything was immaculate, which is extremely important in an Airbnb. She recommended local areas that I could eat and hangout. She went above and beyond to make my stay welcoming. Funds is very lucky to have such an amazing employee.

Comments: Pretty decent Airbnb for the price. Relatively clean. Relatively quiet. The locks are a little iffy. Getting to the subway is about 10-15 min walk. Easy to come and go at any hour. Bathroom was decent. Nothing really spectacular but just a good value for decent quality and convenience.

Comments: There is quite a bit to say about this place so I tried my best to point-form it into "The Good", "The Bad", and "The Ugly". If you'd like a detailed description please read on! I tried my best to make this a totally impartial view of my stay! The Good: 1. The Neighbourhood: I couldn't be happier with the location of this Air B&B is. The train is a 10 minute walk from the house and it runs 24/7. There are lots of great coffee shops and restaurants within walking distance all with great food and prices! 2. The Price: Much more affordable for a trip to NYC. We were able to stay more days with this house without breaking the bank! The Bad: 1. It's Shared Living: The simple room is next to the Astoria Suite (which holds up to 5 people) this also means you'll be sharing a bathroom, hallway, and house with more than the guests in your party. Get ready for bathroom wait times and noise from the hall. Our neighbours happened to be 5 teenagers who liked to indulge in the night life. 2. Broken Amenities: I understand it's hard to keep up with a big house... The problem here came with the doors and the toilet. All the doors in the house don't shut properly (due to age and damage) and the toilet barely works... The flusher was falling out. There were some holes in the floor and holes In the windows (which caused problems when it poured rain one night.) 3. Not the cleanest place: The floors were dirty. The bed was stained. The carpet was filthy and the couch was musty. We were able to handle it as we were just sleeping in the room but still we were expecting cleaner from the pictures. The carpet is also covering a whole in the floorboards. The Ugly: 1. ANTS??? We found an ant on the bed... Then another.... And another... Soon we realized the room was covered in ants. The first night we slept uneasy... Not even going under the sheets due to the amount of ants. We would come back to the room to find ants all over the table and furniture... So we had to be extra careful about leaving food and garbage. A few ant traps could fix this problem. 2. A Weird shared window. So there are glass bricks at the top of the ceiling which are shared between both the simple room and suite. If one light is on both rooms are lit. So we had a sleepless night when the neighbours kept their light on. I'm not sure why this window is even there... It could be fixed with a curtain. In Summary: The place is great if you want a simple place to stay. If you're looking to be in town for longer than a week though may be a bit tougher.

Comments: Other rooms in this home are rented out to other airbnb residents so you get to interact with a lot of other people from other places. However, there was only one bathroom downstairs for everyone so communication was definitely key if you wanted to plan to shower and leave the house at certain times. The room is private so you still feel like you get your own place, even though it can get loud at times if your neighbors are not respectful. Overall, Funda was great with responding to everyone's needs and concerns to make the place feel safe.

Comments: Close proximity to multiple Metro stops. Motion sensor lighting makes coming and going at night easy and safe. Room was spacious, and homelike/very comfortable. The Astoria area is friendly and very walkable, too!

Comments: Funda's place was just as described and perfect for a simple stay. The check in and instructions were very helpful and clear. It's 10 blocks to the N train. The place was quiet and comfortable and clean.

Comments: Loved this neat little room! I saw some review that made a comment about it not being clean, or having ants or something... couldn't be further from the truth... you can tell Funda takes great care of this very stylish little space. The check in and check out process is great and easy. The bed is comfy. Great having a full couch, shelf, and desk and chair as well.

Comments: The location is close to the subway. Overall not bad!

  • Reviewer: Eliaz

Comments: She didn’t let me know that the water was going to be turned off that morning as the maintenance man came to work on it. So much for the convenience of it being next to the airport when I couldn’t shower or brush my teeth before I left. Also, take a really close look at the pictures to get a better sense of how the place isn’t as pristine as the first couple of photos would suggest.

Comments: My stay at Funda’s was truly a classic example of “you get what you pay for”. The first problem I had was how hollow the walls were. You could hear everything from the room (people walking up/down the stairs, loud conversations, the ppl next door/upstairs). She didn’t have basic accommodations like wash clothes or an iron/ironing board. The kitchen had 3 microwaves and only one of them worked and the oven was out of service as well so we had to eat out the whole time. I’d recommend this spot to someone on a tight budget in need of a room for a night or two. That’s about it, I wouldn’t stay there again.
