Summary: We have turned a walk-through, or shotgun apt, (RESEARCH it!) into a great home in Manhattan. *This room is completely private! Tiny, but Cozy! This room is not part of the shotgun layout. PRIVATE ROOM! Yes PRIVATE ROOM!
Space: We are in historic Hamilton Heights, 1 block from a/c/b/d/1 subway trains. Also very close to lovely Convent ave and Hamilton Terrace. (make time for a 15 minute walk; you'll love it!) This is a gorgeous brownstone with a large private yard. The only downside is that it's a railroad apt. Walkthrough / shotgun style. But good news, this PRIVATE room is not part of the walk-through! It is a small room (think harry potter's room) but it is completely private.

Comments: I had a great time staying in NY with Jack! He was so responsive to my messages and made sure to be available when I came into town. He had everything set up for me and both he and his girlfriend were so welcoming and friendly; I felt really comfortable with them and in the apartment :) The room was small but he made that very clear before accepting my reservation so there were no surprises. Anyway, the bed was so comfortable it hardly mattered. Small room, big city, cute dog (Miko)...what more do you need!! I would totally stay there again.

Comments: Great visit, great host. Jack was so helpful and clear in his first e-mails that the room was exactly what i had expected: this is a long 'railway car apartment' - so you go through two sleeping areas and a living area to get to the private room - which has a door and no one going through. Imagine the nicest train roomet you have seen - tiny, tiny room but with a firm beautiful bed. The host was exceptionally helpful and friendly, as was Miko the pug. The apartment was clean and the great cereal and English muffins for breakfast were an added bonus. The place is on the ground floor and sitting in the backyard in the morning and at nightfall was a treat. I do not walk well and crucial for me was that three good bus lines are right outside (bx19 one block to connect to the m4 and m5, and the m101) and the subway is five minutes away. I often came home late after concerts and felt safe: enjoyed the people I met daily on the buses. thanks darcy, constance and miko for such a great visit. Highly recommended.

Comments: Thanks Jack for a very nice time there in NY, you both helped us to have a much more cozy and enjoyable stay in NY :)) apt was very nice, kitchen and terrace and everything, of course the room is really tiny it probably was a wardrobe sometime ago but we got used to it and in the end it was a very cozy room :) The apartment is in a very good place its just few minutes walk from both the local and express trains 145th station so everything is very easily reachable. Thanks once more :)

Comments: Loved the tiny room! I was warmly welcomed with some great conversation. The homes ambiance is one of immediate feel "good'n home"as soon as you walk in the door and for the time, you are lucky enough to spend there. Even amidst all the hustle and bustle of the town, this is a place of peace and contentment for you to come home too, the quiet tasteful music and Mikos loving presence just rounded my stay up perfect. Did I mention the strong shower head that just feels wonderful after lugging your rucksack around all day? If you want to be social, you can, the host is also very respectful of solitude needs. Would love to stay again when in the neighborhood.

Comments: Staying at Jack's was SO AWESOME! He was such an amazing host! It was almost as if I was just visiting friends! He and his girlfriend had organised she would be able to be there to welcome me initially as he was at work...from the moment I was greeted I knew it would be a great stay! They were even worried for me as I was late arriving and they hoped nothing had happened! Their little pug is THE most adorable, chilled out and intelligent dog EVER! Super friendly, but not really demanding, loves attention but also her own time! She knows heaps of tricks too! Brilliant apartment, used the space well; the room you will stay in (most likely) appears small but more than enough space for sleeping and loads of very cleverly arranged storage (I was able to fully unpack my huge suitcase into the drawers and wall shelves); if that were not enough, you're made to feel very welcome in the lounge/kitchen all the time! Great variety of food for breakfast with Jack specially paying attention to things I may have been preferring to ensure he didn't run out!!! (How legendary is that?!!) Location - seemed safe and civilized enough! I guess always just exercise caution as you usually would being out late etc! VERY easy to get to anywhere from here - I was so surprised (I made it to the Brooklyn Bridge in 35 mins!), and the 'subway'/trains are very good! They are very organised (they even have a crib sheet for guests so you can easily understand the tv, the wifi etc etc with ease!), caring and just generally awesome! You'd be missing out if you didn't stay here!

Comments: Jack is a wonderful host and it was amazing to stay in his house during our trip in New-York! We had a lot of fun with him, talking and drinking French wine on the evening ! His girlfriend is very nice and Miko, his pug, is adorable ! This room is tiny but it corresponds exactly of what you can see on the pictures so no bad surprises ! We are two friends and we slept in this room for 5 nights without any problems so it's good enough for a short stay ! Besides, you could stay in the living room and use the kitchen as much as you want and Jack's house is very cozy ! There is a breakfast station with everything you need to start a long day of visits in New-York ! Location - this room is very close to subway stations and it's very easy to reach the center of Manhattan from here. I definitely recommend you this place, if you want to spend a great time in NY ! Thank you very much Jack, I hope we could keep in touch and see you again, may be in a Paris' theater !

Comments: Staying at Jack's was exactly what my best friend and I needed for our visit at NYC: a private room in a friendly and clean house in close proximity to a subway station. Jack was super nice and offered us plenty of tips on how to get around and what to see. Extra bonus was the lovely breakfast station he has setup for his guests, and Miko (his pug). It was overall a very positive experience and I would definitely recommend a stay at his. Thank you Jack!

Comments: This was my first airbnb experience, and I'm glad it was! The description given is very accurate, or, to be honest, less flattering than the real thing. Jack welcomed me warmly, gave me many pointers about what to do or how it works around. Miko (his dog) is adorable. I'm bad with comments, just note that, shall I go back to NY, I'll ask Jack for his room before looking elsewhere.

Comments: Awesome spot to stay! Very close to the subway which made traveling around easy. The hosts were great, very welcoming and accommodating to my schedule. I stayed in the private room and it was perfect for my stay - lots of storage for all my stuff and the bed was comfortable. The layout was not an issue at all. I'd highly recommend this place!

Comments: Jack has a lovely place with a really positive atmosphere and plenty of places to check out nearby (along with convenient subway station locations if you want to explore more). 10/10 hosts, pets, and Airbnb, you'll feel right at home! Book if you like good conversation, pizza (literally a 10 second walk away), wine, piano, and/or Netflix.

Comments: Location! Location! Location! Did I mention location? Anyhow, my stay at Jack's was a dream. I loved the layout of the apartment. I chose the front room, as it better suited my wants. The apartment was a block away from Bikram Yoga Harlem and a laundromat, Super convenient to multiple subway lines, and the garden was a perfect spot to enjoy a morning cup of coffee/tea or some dinner. Jack was an excellent host and catered to any question or concern I had... which were few as I am in the city often for work. Highly recommend this spot! Also, Miko and Saki are so much fun to play with, if you are a dog person.

Comments: My stay at Jack's was comfortable, and he's a very flexible and available host. I had to make changes to my reservation and he was very accommodating. The description of the room here is accurate (no windows, the door doesn't fully close, no access to A/C unless the door is open) but I found it cozy. The dogs are very rambunctious (but sweet) and shed a fair amount, but this wasn't a problem for me. The location is amazing, super close to multiple subway lines and in a great neighborhood. Overall, I would totally recommend Jack's place to a tight-budget traveler looking to explore NYC.

Comments: Jack and Constance were incredibly welcoming. Their tiny room really was tiny, but it was exactly as described. The apartment was close to multiple subways lines, a supermarket, and various other food options. Sake and Miko were also excellent furry hosts. I can't recommend this tiny but welcoming room enough.

Comments: Jack, and his wife Constance made me feel like home! It was my first time abroad and they were very nice to me, gave me very good recommendations and made my experience friendlier, I'm very glad I met them! They're always available for any questions you have and for a little chat about your day, it was great! The apartment was nice and the room is tiny but very cozy and the bed is confortable, there are many subway lines close and some buses so it's very easy to move around Manhattan, and to get to Queens and Brooklyn. It's great they offer breakfast for you, you can use the TV, like I said before, it was like home! I totally recommend staying here! And the dogs are very sweet and very good company!

Comments: Okay, The only thing that I can say is..that it is very very very extremely rare to enter a strangers house and feel so warm and welcomed! Constance and Jack are phenomenal people, incredibly nice and I couldn’t have imagined staying somewhere else. They were very considerate and communicative. I am beyond lucky and happy that I got the chance to have met you and spent time in your apartment. The location is literally perfect for anyone travelling to midtown or wherever you wanna go. The neighborhood is pretty nice and i won’t forget to mention the pups.. they are incredibly sweet and i fell in love with both of them. The room is small but it’s sooooo cozy! And really comfortable!! I honestly couldn’t have imagined living somewhere else in my time in the city, i loved the talks at night and the kidness and i highly appreciate all of that. If you‘re ever in Germany, please let me know, i would love to see you again!!!
