Neighborhood Overview: People are also really nice around here. Everyone is used to having tourists around all year long, so even if you don't speak english, they will find a way to help you out. It's also a really safe area, and there are cops everywhere all day and night long.

Notes: Please be aware that there is no property manager on site. Someone will be there periodically throughout the days, but we will always be available in the event of an emergency as well as by phone.

Transit: I do recommend renting a car if possible. Although we are located so close to many restaurants, shops and attractions, to really get the most out of your trip to the Big Island, you will need to explore! This is a Big Island, an there are so many great things to see that you would be missing out on if you don't have a vehicle. If you have a car, parking is available for you. We provide safe parking just outside of the house. If you want, pop, your head out the window and make sure your car is still there! Easy access to: Rainbow Falls Many Beaches Hawaii Tropical Botanical Gardens Akaka Falls Volcanoes National Park Shopping & Dining Lyman Museum Imiloa Astronomy Center

Access: Guests are invited to enjoy our two outdoor lanai's, stainless steel gas grill and dining areas. Two additional areas sport a large living room with a fireplace, billiard table and books to help you plan your day and an intimate oriental garden with a koi pond and fountain.

Interaction: I will not be available in person, but I am always available by telephone or through Airbnb. I live in Hilo and am always available in the event of an emergency. On the day of check-in, once your room is ready, we will message you the codes you will need to check yourself in along with your room number. If you have any issues getting into the property, you may always call me and we can guide you in over the telephone.

Comments: Charming, vintage local family manse atop a cute, in-town pu'u, with a cheerful local young innkeeper. Great location, great views and charming surrounding hilltop garden, more than sufficient continental breakfast, Jade was kind and helpful.

Comments: very nice and clean room with spacious bathroom and a great view over Hilo town. I stayed there for five nights and felt very comfortable. A very beautiful house with very tasty furniture and very beautiful and peaceful japanese Zen-like garden. Jade was a great and very friendly host and gave me a lot of information and tour tips for my photographic work. It was the best accomodation i had during my time in Hawaii and really can recommand this quiet and peaceful place on top of the hill. Very good continenatl breakfast and Jade did his best to answer all my questions about Lavafields, tours and the nature highlights of Big Island. Thank you very much.

Comments: My boyfriend and I had a great experience staying in Jade's Hilltop Legacy room. The house was beautiful and the rooms have amazing views of Hilo Bay. He provided a delicious breakfast that included fresh local fruit in the mornings, and had a lot of outdoor gear accommodations (snorkles, beach towels, etc) which was definitely convenient for light packers. The room was very private and had all of the conveniences of a hotel. Great location, great accommodations, great host. I will definitely be back next time.

Comments: Wonderful space, clean, quiet, comfortable and in central Hilo. Beautiful view of town and the ocean to the east. My preferred place to stay when visiting East Hawaii.

Comments: Great host, spectacular vantage over Hilo, lovely breakfast in the formal dining area or outside next to the rock garden and pond. I will stay here if I can when I am next in Hilo! Thank you Jade!

Comments: Jade is a wonderful host. He was very friendly and made us feel at home right from the start. He even upgraded our room to a suite (with a great view and a Jacuzzi) at no additional cost. He is quite knowledgable about the area and shared his thoughts with us and provided suggestions for things to do aroung the Island. The house in located at the end of a private driveway, less than 5 minutes from downtown Hilo. Yet, it was very quiet (and very romantic according to my wife :) ). There is ample parking within the property. The house is well decorated with family trinkets and local handicrafts. A simple continental breakfast is served every morning between 8 to 9 AM. Without a doubt, for my next visit to Hilo, I will first contact Jade to see if there is a room available in his BnB.

Comments: My husband and I was in september in the smallest room in Hilltop legacy. Jade was a great host, nice and polite. The breakfast, the lanais, gardens and the hall was wonderfoull The room was clean and luminous but at night there was thousand of frogs croaking all the night outside!! Thank you Jade!!

Comments: We stayed here when we were visiting Hilo side of the island. The place certainly has a charm. Jade, our host was very friendly and personable. He made sure our stay was comfortable. We drove up to Mauna Kea for sky gazing, which is one of the highest place on the island. Jade offered jackets for us to take up to the summit. This was very considered gesture. There was also very welcoming and curious cats in the house, specially Snowball was found of us and circled around us almost entire time when we were there. Thank YOU Jade!

Comments: Jade is a wonderful host, and the property is gorgeous. The view from our room was fantastic, and Jade went out of his way to make sure we were comfortable. The self-serve continental breakfast has everything you'd need, which was great for us early-risers. A quick, full breakfast was welcome and allowed us to be on our way and enjoy the adventures that side of the Big Island had to offer. The room is cozy and outfitted with fast WiFi, a television, a mini fridge and microwave, a coffee maker, and had a private bathroom. The only minor issue I had was that the water pressure in the shower was pretty weak. It's not a huge deal, but it's something to note. Also very minor, and not really an issue for most, but if you ARE allergic, there is a cat there. Snowball's very friendly, but it's just another thing to note. All in all, this is a great place to stay, and Jade has the place outfitted such that you'll have everything you need. Need fresh towels? No problem. Want a glass or a bottle of wine? Just ask and you can buy one for a very fair price. All of this, and I didn't even mention that the first floor of the house has a common room with a large screen TV and full-sized pool table! Very cool. I'd absolutely stay with Jade again. Definitely consider this property on your trip to Hilo.

Comments: Jade is a great host and his place is every bit as beautiful as the photos. It is a clean and safe plase to stay in a beautiful paradise. You are close enough to town to walk in less than 30 minutes, but far enough to enjoy the scerenity of his hilltop location. I highly recommend it to anyone. Jade also took the time to help answer question when we needed advice.

Comments: We stayed two nigths at Jades place. The place offers privacy, because the guestrooms are seperated from the rest of the house. For us it was perfect to have some privacy, after many nights in other accomodations. But our short encounters with Jade were very nice too. He is a very friendly person and seems to be very professional. He offered us a simple breakfast, but with our favorite fruit papaya. We would recommend Jades place.

Comments: My boyfriend and I had a wonderful stay in the Hilo Bay room at the Hilltop Legacy. It's an older house, the room was comfortable with private bathroom and a nice view. There was shampoo, conditioner and body lotion with plenty of towels provided. Breakfast in the morning was delicious fresh fruit, bagels, english muffins, and croissants with juice and coffee. It's a good location, although we had a car so we always drove. We only met Jade briefly but he was very accommodating. I would definitely recommend staying here while exploring Hilo, Mauna Kea, or the Volcano National Park.

Comments: The hilltop legacy was a great stay for me. What a view from my window. The grounds are beautiful and lush. Jade was helpful host and down to earth. It is a mile up the hill from town a healthy trek either walking or running but worth every step. You really need a car to see all the sights.

Comments: AMAZING location. Beautiful property. Very kind and responsible host. Clean room. yummy breakfast. Room was exactly like the picture. Walls are a little thin, but that is every house in Hilo.

Comments: The place was great. Jade was very friendly and helpful. We upgraded the room when we got there, as there was a bigger one available with a balcony. The spaces are great, with a pool table to use and very tranquil garden to sit in. Both rooms had an amazing view overlooking Hilo and the ocean. The water pressure wasn't great, but for one night it was no problem. The rooms are very private, and had everything we needed.

Comments: A nice and clean, simple little room, quiet and hidden up on the hillside it has a lovely view down to the town. A simple breakfast in the morning which you could help yourself too. A lovely place to use as a base for this side of the island if you have lots of things planned.

Comments: Jade is a very friendly person. The location of the accommodation is good. The room was clean. The breakfast was a nice addition. There was plenty of choice. Arrival went very smoothly.

Comments: I arrived at night and check-in was smooth. I did not see Jade, but Mr. Lee happened to be at the house. He was very nice. The house itself is nicely decorated and the room is clean and has everything you will need. The night view of the Hilo Bay is priceless. Wish I could spend more time at the house. One downside is I was woken up early in the morning by a lady talking very loud on the phone in the room next door. I am talking about super early, like 5 something. I understand there is jet lag, but it is just a little annoying.

Comments: We had a lovely nights stay here, location was great, facilities and the room were more than we were expecting and our host was welcoming! Really great place to stay

  • Reviewer: Joe

Comments: Jade made the check in process very easy and he was very welcoming! We checked in after normal check in hours, and he gave simple yet detailed instructions. Very friendly, accommodating, and easy to work with. The place was great! (For the most part) it was convenient to town yet secluded and quiet. Down stairs was fantastic! Truly a gorgeous place. Modern and fun. The patios are well set up and comfortable. The only thing that we did not like was the bedroom. It was a little dated and underwhelming. Hopefully it is a work in progress. Because if he puts as much care into the bedroom as he did to the rest of the house, this will be a 5 star air bnb!

Comments: The home was in a lovely location and had an amazing view. The common areas had everything you need and the outside area was quaint. This home is set up like a hostel with individual rooms. The room itself was very outdated and only semi clean. Lots of dust on the curtains and the sheets and blankets have been worn down to threads. I would suggest bringing your own towel as the once white towels provided are extremely dingy from years of use I'm sure. I cannot comment on the host as I never actually met him. I received check-in instructions through text and only met his father Mr Lee by chance one late night. He seemed very pleasant as did the other people staying there. I did text Jade about a severe bug (roach and ant) problem in the room and I didn't see anything done about it. I left at 3am the day of my check out (my flight wasnt until 3pm) because I had just killed several bugs and a few in the bed. I just couldn't sleep there anymore. I was very disappointed, I truly wanted to like this place better.

Comments: This home is in a beautiful spot overlooking Hilo Bay. Very convenient to town. And the gardens are wonderful. I did not meet Jade but his father was very nice and welcoming. I wish I could have stayed longer.

Comments: 매우 친절한 호스트, 정김가는 방.

  • Reviewer: Crystal

Comments: I'm not one for leaving terrible reviews but this will be my first. I really wish I did not book this place. Although "checking in" and parking was a breeze, the room itself was the equivalent of a cheap motel except it was half the size. The towels seem to all be air dried or something because they were rock hard and crunchy to use. The bed was uncomfortable and squeaky. I woke up itchy all over and discovered a squished bug that I could not identify on my legs accompanied with dozens of bites. They were not mosquito bites but rather some sort of mysterious bed bug. The room was covered in ants and the fan was far more noisy than helpful, even with ear plugs I could hear the old fan struggling to work. There is no kitchen at all which makes eating in impossible even when a tiny fridge and microwave is available. I was excited to get out of the place in the morning. It was purely a dark and gloomy old home with an old 1950s vibe motel on the second floor with a good view to make up for it.

  • Reviewer: Eva

Comments: This is not a very comfortable place to spend a night. The room is in very poor condition, as is the bathroom. The towels were absolutely gross-- super stiff, and rough. The pillows were barely there, they provided no support. The bed is old and the spring mattress is ridiculously uncomfortable. The smell in the room was very unpleasant. The temperature in the room was way too hot, and the fan that was provided was not adequate. The mini refrigerator was not turned on when we arrived, so all the drinks we wanted to drink that night were too warm. There are ants in the room, as is expected in Hawaii. The only positive thing about this room was the location.

  • Reviewer: Zann

Comments: Everything was as described and I had everything I needed. The location was perfect. The outside garden area was beautiful. I I wished I had more time to enjoy it. One thing, while the towels were plentiful, they were rough as sandpaper. I would stay there again for sure, but perhaps bring my own towels. Thank you for a peaceful stay.

Comments: Our guest room needs so TLC. Bathroom dimly lit, matress soft. Could use some sprucing up. The hosts father was very personable.

  • Reviewer: Tenessa

Comments: Good stay in a room perched up on a hill with views of Hilo and private bathroom. However, bed is very uncomfortable and is due for a new mattress!

  • Reviewer: Can

Comments: Poor condition for the bed and the towels. Late responses from the host.

  • Reviewer: Mark

Comments: nice place. smelled a bit mildewy

  • Reviewer: Vanessa

Comments: Nice house and good location, but the room could do with some work, and was missing homey touches. However it did the job and had a good view

  • Reviewer: Edward

Comments: Great location and views over Hilo. We were able to walk into the center of town every day. The room was clean, comfortable and peaceful. It was also nice to spot wild pigs in the garden on our last morning!

  • Reviewer: Richard

Comments: Jade's place is a beautiful house with several bedrooms on the second floor that are rented out. It felt similar to staying in a hotel room with coded door locks, single serve coffee machine, laminated house rules posting, ID check in procedure. I think our room was the smallest, which made it tough to manage several suitcases. The private bathroom was nice and clean, and small. Our room had no A/C and a loud fan. A newer fan would have been nice. Location is great, only about a 5 minute drive to downtown Hilo and nice views from the hilltop. The best part of our stay was meeting the host. We were greeted by Jade's father and he is very nice and accommodating.

Comments: The room was very small, very small bed. As we had no cell phone on our trip it was difficult to contact the host and the host was not available when we arrived to check us in.

Comments: We had a great stay at Jade’s place. We never met in person but Jade’s dad was there to greet us when we arrived. I did like that we had our own private washroom in our room. The location was great as it was only a 20 mins walk to the downtown area. I definitely recommend staying with Jade :)
