Comments: Staying with Sylvie and Karen was amazing. They have an amazing house and they are the most welcoming, hospitable hosts. They gave us awesome tips on where to go and how to get there. Sylvie even cooked us some homemade treats as well which was a definite a highlight of our trip. I can't recommend staying at Sylvie's house highly enough. She made Kona an amazing place to visit. Can't wait to visit again!

Comments: Hi! If you are going to Kona I would definitely recommend you to stay with Sylvia and her friends!! I came alone and Sylvia and her friends were kind enough to drive me and show me around. One of the things I would definitely recommend is go on a helicopter tour with Blue Hawaiian, it's undescribable how beautiful and amazing Kona looks when you are in the air. Amazing expirience!! Also,Sylvia and her friend Karen are the most unique and fun people I have ever met and you won't regret If you decide to stay with them. Only thing is that house is not in the town, it's 7 min away so,you will need a car. Sylvia and her friends helped me a lot with driving me around and introducing Kona to me! She cookes amazing food and you can eat fruit which she has in her beautiful garden around the house. I had an amazing time with Sylvia and her friends and it's an expirience I'll never forget,so THANK YOU!!!

Comments: Sylvie`s Ohana is the perfect place for everybody who likes to be in a very pretty environment with gorgeous people, that make you really feel at home ! Very welcoming, cosy and with a great outside shower, that was a unique experience, I absolutely loved :-) ! Sylvie, Karen and everybody else who was around at the time I was there, were so helpful, warm and really welcoming, doing everything they could to make my stay as pleasant as possible. The house itself and the garden are so beautiful ! Thank you again, Sylvie and Karen, for being such wonderful hosts - I will definetely be back with you very soon :-) !! Take care, Mahalo and ALOHA !!

They responded immediately to my questions and even made me a delicious dinner twice! They are such nice people - I would definitely stay there again. Thanks Karen and Sylvie!

Comments: Great place to stay in kona. Very well situated, quiet with only roosters and birds to wake you up. The room was well fitted and big enough for us two. We spent 3 nights there and would have loved to extend. We've been warmly greeted by Sylvia and Macarena and received a lot of good tips to discover the big island. If we come back to kona, we'll stay there again for sure !

Comments: My stay at Sylvia's was wonderful! Next time I visit Kona I am going to be sure if they have a room available. They were extremely nice and informative! The room was very clean! I love the outside shower it was very unique. I felt like a local staying at their home instead of a hotel! I recommend staying with them! Thank you ladies!

They are wonderful hosts who will go out of their way to make your stay special and they are wonderful cooks! The location is brillant, close to the airport and Kona, yet still in a quiet neighbourhood. This is the place to go if your looking for a really relaxing hawaiian experience!

Comments: Our stay at Svlvie's Tropical Paradise could not have been any better! We absolutely loved her place, and we loved our hostess even more. Sylvie will always go the extra mile to make you feel at home and take care of you. When we arrived she had the most wonderful dinner ready for us on her beautiful deck with views of the ocean. We thoroughly enjoyed her company, the good wine and the amazing home-cooked food with fresh veggies & fruit from the garden. Before we left Sylvie prepared a very nice breakfast with fresh whole-grain bread, fresh fruit and fantastic fresh mint & cardamom tea with mint from her garden for us. The room is very spacious, you have a little water cooker, coffee maker, can use the fridge, there is a outdoor living area on the lanai (porch) - but the Balineses outdoor shower was our favorite!! Every morning we would find fresh papayas, bananas, longans, ... from her garden just outside our room. What a wonderful surprise to wake up to. The location is very convenient. It's only 5min from the airport and a short 15min ride from downtown Kona. As it's at a higher elevation the temperature at night is very comfortable. The neighborhood is very quiet. We also enjoyed Sylvie's recommendations and had a wonderful candle-lit dinner at the 'Ulu Restaurant at the Four Seasons. We will definitely stay at Sylvie's again and would absolutely recommend you stay there. It's magical!!!

Comments: I couldn't have asked for more charming and gracious hosts! Both Karen and Sylvie made me feel so at home, I wish I had stayed longer with them. They were amazingly helpful with my travel plans as I had only decided last minute to come to Hawaii - having no idea what I was doing or where I was going, both on Big Island and Oahu. Just a HUGE thanks for your many kindness, backing the car, the cheese and wine, and the delicious adobo! Oh and many apologies to Karen for being so loud on the last night. Like everyone said, it's perfectly located, close to the airport and town, but in a quiet neighbourhood, and super comfy room. But the hosts were the highlight for me.

Comments: I spent two weeks at Balai Kona Tropical Paradise preparing for the Ironman World Championships which took place on 12 October in Kailua Kona. It is a fantastic place to stay, not far away from the city (10 minutes drive) and with more convenient temperature than on the coast due to the 1200 ft elevation (still warm but about 10°F less). The house and the garden are awesome. There are beautiful flowers all around and Sylvia provided me every day with freshly picked papayas, bananas, avocados... It is a very quite place and I couldn't have slept better in the diligently equipped room. But this is not the only reason why Balai Kona Tropical Paradise is an exceptional place to stay! Sylvia and Karen are great hosts. Sylvia is an amazing cook. I loved her humus, fresh juices, barbecue.... I discovered many great new recipes which I will bring to Europe! They invited me several times for lunch and diner, we often prepared our meals together or in their absence I could cook myself in their kitchen. I enjoyed our discussions while preparing the meals or enjoying a glass of well tempered red wine. Sylvia and Karen also showed me many exceptional places which are not indicated in travel guides. We went to lovely beaches, tasted the best smoothies on the island, visited amazing lava tubes, discovered a hotel with outside toilet or went picking flowers and fruits up the hills. I learned a lot about the culture, history and vegetatuion of the Island. Thanks a lot for your hospitality and all the effort to make my visit of the Big Island unforgettable! Comments: Sylvie and Karen are outstanding hosts! They genuinely want their guests to have a great stay on the Big Island, and make an effort to accommodate (if possible, even last minute!) Communication with Karen was prompt and concise during reservation and before arrival. Very welcoming and pleasant on arrival. The house was easy to get to from the airport, in a quiet community with good access to many island destinations. There's even a fair-sized convenience store within walking distance. The property is gorgeous with an amazing view and a beautiful garden, full of different orchids and fruit trees. They've taken care to combine beautiful and unique elements throughout. The room was clean with a very comfortable bed. Good for one or two guests. The personal outdoor shower was not at all a nuisance for me. They've prepared some handy maps but were always willing to chat about other recommendations. They are a wealth of knowledge. Every morning outside the room was a mountain of fresh-picked fruit for breakfast, buttery avocados the size of small melons and delicious 100% Kona coffee. After a day of exploring I always looked forward to coming back and catching up with Karen and Sylvie. They have a contagious fun energy, throw gourmet dinner parties, eat cheese and drink good wine with my kind of enthusiasm. I feel very lucky to have been a guest in their home; they are an unforgettable part of why our Big Island stay was fantastic. I look forward to a future visit. Mahalo!

Comments: We had an A*M*A*Z*I*N*G* time in Hawai'i, now we are in Ohau and would just get the first flight back to Sylvie's Ohana! It was one of our best holidays and this would not have been possible without the kindness, smiles, enthusiasm of Sylvia, Karen, and Roxana. If we'll ever get back to Kona, which we hope will happen very soon, we will go for sure to Sylvia's place, which is an authentic paradise! We loved it! The house is beautiful, clean, comfortable and most important, the people are so nice, you could not expect more than find some new friends during your travels! That experience will remain in our hearts and ! Thanks!

Comments: What a delightful experience! Sylvie and Karen are just the best hosts you can hope for. So warm, friendly, inviting and knowledgeable, they were constantly recommending places for us to visit and telling us the best ways to get there. Each morning there was fruit, bread pudding or coffee outside our room and we had an amazing BBQ dinner party with Sylvie, Karen and Roseanne, with delicious food, wine and laughter. We only stayed 3 nights which was not enough time around such wonderful people. They went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed. The room was clean and nicely furnished. The bed was really comfortable and the location of the house was very convenient for exploring the area. The house and garden are beautiful and calming, with a magnificent view to the coast. We count ourselves lucky for having had the opportunity to stay there.

Comments: Sylvia and Karen were such wonderful hosts! From the moment I got in, I was welcomed with warmth (and lots of delicious food!). The accommodations were very comfortable and the views of Kona were just stunning. The ladies were also very helpful in directing me around the island as well as offering suggestions on where to go. I had a short visit of only 3 nights, but would've loved to spend more time with Sylvia and the rest of the house. Thanks - until next time!

Comments: Staying at Sylvia and Karen's was an amazing experience. We were welcome with freshly harvested tropical fruits from the garden and spent some time with Karen who gave us many advices on the places to see on big island. At the evenings we were invited to share some wine and taste some tasty food prepared by Sylvia and Karen. We had some fresh local coffee in the morning and Sylvia even prepared some tasty breakfast for us! The talks with these 2 persons full of life were always very interesting and we learned a lot on the island from them. This airbnb experience was very unique and will remain in our memory for a long time. Besides our wonderful hosts, the place was perfect, on the hills, a few minutes from downtown, the house was surrounded by tropical trees and you have the see that is visible which makes a gorgeous view for the breakfast! The room was very pretty, comfortable and clean, but one of the most amazing part was the shower... you could really feel like in these ads for shower gels, with bamboos around you and little statues! The list of the qualities of this place and these hosts is endless... and I would be so happy if one day I could stay again at "tropical paradise"!

Comments: Sylvie and Karen were great hosts. Karen was kind enough to invite us up to dinner several of the nights we were there and we had an awesome time getting to know her. Sylvie surprised us with a really sweet breakfast one morning that she left covered on the table outside with lots of fresh fruit. The room looks just like the pictures and the property is super easy to find. We'd definitely recommend it. They do have some property rules that they ask vistors to respect, nothing crazy just logical, respectful stuff: take shoes off at the door, put towels outside to dry, etc. We had a very nice time and would definitely come back.

Comments: What an AMAZING experience! This was my first time using airbnb and I was more than satisfied during my stay. My boyfriend and I spent 3 days at Sylvia's BEAUTIFUL home. Sylvia, Karen and Roseanne are such wonderful women to be around. We felt like family the entire stay. Sylvia was so kind and generous to have invited us to a homemade dinner. When we were unable to attend, she took the time to prepare brunch for us the morning before we left. The property is a short drive to downtown and the beaches. They even suggested places for us to visit and things for us to do in the area. The room was nice, comfortable, and clean. The outdoor shower makes you feel like you're showering in paradise. What really made the experience so wonderful was meeting 3 amazing women who all made us feel at home. I definitely recommend Balai Kona Tropical Paradise! Mahalo!

Comments: My stay here was just GREAT!! From the minute I arrived Sylvia and Karen treated me like an old friend and not like a stranger. I was immediately greeted with delicious food and plenty of fresh fruit. Balai Kona Tropical Paradise lives up to the name by having a beautiful garden where I was greeted by the wonderfull scent of night blooming jasmine every night I came home. The room is beautiful, like on the pictures, the bed super comfy and the outdoor area wonderful. Its location is a short drive away from Kailua-Kona as well as beautifull beaches. As it is abit up the mountain it never gets too hot. Karen and Sylvia are such nice and generous people one day they invited me to a delicious bbq lunch and on my last day they surprised me with breakfast. Karen provided me with lost of great recommendations where to eat and what to explore on the Big Island which has so much to offer. She even gave me a super interesting tour of the area one night. As mentioned in the other reviews, the outdoor shower is also great especially at night. Mahalo for a truly amazing experiene!

Comments: Sylvie and Karen were amazing hosts! We arrived to find a plate of fresh fruit waiting for us on the lanai - a much appreciated offering after traveling all day. The room was lovely and just as we expected. The bed was super comfortable and we loved the lanai with ocean view and outdoor shower. On our last day, Karen prepared a lovely breakfast of fresh papaya and mango. We couldn't have asked for a better stay or nicer hosts. We will definitely stay here again should we ever come back through Kailua-Kona.

Comments: Sylvie was an excellent host. I was travelling alone, and she really made me feel welcome. It was like visiting a friend rather than staying in a stranger's house. She even invited me upstairs for wine one evening, and she made me breakfast one morning. There is a great view from her porch overlooking Kona. Her garden is beautiful, and the fresh fruit from it was amazing. This was my favorite part! Sylvie also had so many good tips about what to see and do. The room was also very pleasant to stay in. It was neat and clean. There is a 1/2 bath attached to the room, but the out door shower is the only shower. It was refreshing during the day time, but better not to shower at night. There are mosquitoes to watch out for. Also plan to eat out or simple meals, as there is no full kitchen. There are dishes for use, a fridge, a toaster oven, and coffee/tea maker. Overall I had a wonderful experience, and my only regret was not having more time to spend there.

Comments: Kona paradise and the Garden of Eden all in one. Very peaceful neighborhood, the cooing of doves and the sound of soft breezes through the leaves lull you into tranquillity. I was greeted with Aloha and abundant fresh fruit from the garden at my door. Sylvia and Karen are gracious hosts and prepared to see to your comfort needs. Half bath in the room and glorious private tropical outdoor shower! Wonderful plush couch on lanai for afternoon naps. No full kitchen but toaster oven, refrigerator and coffee maker make breakfast and shacks a breeze...who wants to cook anyway? I'll be back.

Comments: OMG darlings! It's to die for! This is Sylvie's favorite expression and also, pretty much sums up our experience at the Balai Kona Tropical Paradise with the amazing hostesses Sylvia and Karen. Rarely have we encountered such hospitality, consideration and care. The room with its own bathroom is cozy and clean. We thought the bed would be too soft but ended up sleeping better than in our own fancy bed at home. We love outdoor showers, and this one doesn't disappoint. Aaah! There are several cozy spots to lounge on the property, perfect for reading or daydreaming. The garden is beautiful with a bunch of unusual and edible plants. The room doesn't come with a kitchen, but enough equipment to make sandwiches to go for lunch and more. A special and memorable experience.

Comments: I'm almost sad to depart this beautiful island. A great part that has made my experience so wonderful here is my stay here at Sylvia/Karen's home. The room and bathroom are beautiful, my favourite blue. :). The outdoor lanai seating area with its gorgeous touches is perfect for kicking back after a long day on the road. I would sink back.and enjoy a beer at sunset. The view over the ocean at sunset on the deck above or below is breathtaking. The outdoor tropical shower is a luxury I would love to have at home. What an experience! Sylvia and Karen have equipped the room with almost every need you could think of. The huge bowl of fresh fruit and delicious Sylvia's honemade bread pudding one morning were so kind. I enjoyed my conversations with Karen, a fellow part Canadian and would welcome either of them in my ohana any day. Thank you ladies!

Comments: The location of the room was great...fairly central to both north and south of kona. The room was clean and just as described although the walls were paper thin and I was not aware there would be a permanent tenant in the adjacent room. I had to get up very early for excursions and go to bed early but it was hard to sleep since the other tenant would come home really late and put on the tv past midnight. Just be aware if you're a light sleeper. The outdoor shower was not covered all the way so beware of mosquitos. Also it's very easy to get locked out of the room and when I did so once I had to wait 2 hrs to get a neighbor to help and then wait for the host to come home with a spare (Website hidden by Airbnb) would be helpful if they hid one around the property just in case. Overall I would stay here again for a night or two but not longer than that since the noise at night was uncomfortable. The hosts were very nice though and the bowl of fruit was appreciated.

The house is incredible: with a huge garden (and wonderfull smell from all the flowers), the room is large and confortable, and it has great views of the sea and stars. Only 10 minutes away from the airport! Also, Sylvia and Karen were incredible hosts. They are extremely kind, and they got me the best breakfast ever with so many great fruits (now I am addicted to rambutan!). The location is terrific - an hour in any direction affords you the opportunity to plan out daily adventures/hikes/etc. to Pololu Valley, Volcanoes National Park, Waimea, etc. Karen and Sylvie were the consummate hostesses! Their lanai is awesome - morning coffee and planning out the day eventually evolved to evening wine and sharing my day's experiences with Karen and Sylvie, all while having the AWFUL & ANNOYING views of the sunrise and sunset. Comments: OMG This is amazing! They treat me as the real family! When we just arrived in Kona, we found that there is not any bus or public transportation there and we cannot rent a car. This means we have to take a taxi whenever we want to go to somewhere. But the family was super kind! They gave us the ride and also the delicious food which Sylvia made for us. That's so good! I was so sick coz I got a clod before I went to Kona. However, Sylvia, the whole big family, took care of me and gave me ginger and peppermint tea, and my favorite passion fruit. Also, Sylvia has a very big fancy garden. They watered it every day. The garden and the shower are together, which means you can shower in the nature! That's so fantastic! On the new years eve, the big family treated us the big dinner and we watched the fireworks together. Last day before we left, they took us to the very very beautiful beach, just hang out there. It was so good!

Comments: Visiting Sylvia's and Karen's ohana is like homecoming. The suite is tastfully decorated with the Hawaiian theme, very clean and made us just as comfortable as home. Karen provided us with hand drawn maps detailing the local's best spots especially for those we didnt know or missed on internet. Sylvia cooked very delicious breakfast and even got up very early to prepare it on the day we are leaving, so that we can enjoy it hot and fresh. They did their best to extend their warmest Aloha to us and made us feel we are the extended part of their family. And yes, ohana not only means home in Hawaiian, it also means an extended big and happy family. Many thanks Sylvia and Karen!

Comments: I booked Sylvia's place for my colleague, Jeff who spent the week there while working on an ocean film project. Though I couldn't stay myself as I had to get back to Bozeman, I was lucky enough to at least meet Sylvia, who was an incredibly warm and lovely person and who went to extra lengths to ensure that Jeff had a comfortable stay. Jeff said that Sylvia's was the perfect place to retreat to after a long day in the field. He raved about the hospitality and said the room and bed was extremely comfy, loved the outdoor shower, and was treated to the best omelet and Kona coffee of his life. I can attest to the outstanding coffee, as they sent him back to MT with some fresh beans for me. I'm so sad I didn't get to stay there myself, but I will surely be back!

Comments: I have been busy these days...Just got a minute to share feed back on our memorable stays in Sylvia and Karen's house. They are both beautiful and nice people, showing their hospitality all the way. I was really touched by what they did for us. Sylvia made croissant, bread pudding, fried banana, mango rice for us so that we can have warm breakfast before going out (omg after like 10 days I left Hawaii, I still remember the delicious food....) Karen, smart lady, she gave us a lot of advise on travel plan. We did spent wonderful and fullfilling days in big island by following her advises. I really love these two ladies and hope you can enjoy your stay as well. Oh, the most important thing is that their house is just like the photos... so romantic and comfortable. No photoshop applied I guess(¯ー¯)

Comments: We had a great time staying at Sylvias and Karens home. They are great hosts. The location of the house is perfect, it's close to everything but still not too noisy. The room is very nice and we always had fresh fruits from the garden. We could enjoy delicious food cooked by Sylvia. Would definetely recommend staying here.

Comments: Sylvia and Karen are super nice. Our flight was delayed for five hours. We arrived around nine. They provided the pizza and soda which made us so warm. Karen gave us the recommendations for the trip. We also had the delicious breakfast on Saturday with them. We loved their place. Clean and beautiful. Recommended!

Comments: LOVE Sylvia's Ohana! This was an absolutely wonderful experience. Sylvia and Karen really know how to make guests feel so welcome and at home. You could not ask for two more wonderful hosts. They have a beautiful home and the downstairs ohana is perfect. The room is a nice size for one person or a couple. Queen size bed is comfy with extra pillows. There's no microwave, but a toaster oven, coffee maker, and access to full-size refrigerator. Flat screen TV and good wifi. Ceiling fan and portable fan offer plenty of cool air. The private outdoor shower is wonderful! Even though the room is on the lower level of the home, it gets lots of light. There is a full-time renter in an adjacent room (separate entrance), but I wasn't even aware of her being there. Gorgeous gardens surround the house with fragrant flowers blooming everywhere and lots of trees. Sylvia has done a beautiful job with the landscaping. You will definitely enjoy the sweet smells of various flowers. Even though this is a residential area, it feels very private with all the trees. I lived in Kailua Kona for 2 years but had never visited this neighborhood. It's a great location, removed from the insanity of downtown but close enough to easily go back and forth. The home is located off of Kaiminani Drive, about 3 miles above the airport. This makes it easy to drive into downtown Kailua Kona (about 10 minutes without traffic), north to the best beaches, or up Mamalahoa Highway to access the Saddle Road and head over to Hilo. Sylvia is such fun, a delightful woman with many interesting stories to share. She's also an amazing cook! If you are lucky enough to get an invitation for a meal, you MUST accept. It's such fun to share a meal and talk story. Both Sylvia and Karen have lots of information if this is your first time to the Big Island. If you prefer to be left alone, that's ok too. I'm a very private person but thoroughly enjoyed their company. I could go on and on. It's such a beautiful place, run by beautiful people. It made me feel like I was coming home. This place is a real bargain, one of the best I've found. I will definitely stay here again. Mahalo nui loa Sylvia and Karen. I am ever so grateful.

Comments: How does waking up to banana rolls and sweet cake (home made) sound for your first morning in Hawaii? Or a soft bed, with plenty of covers, pillows, and a memory foam pad for your first night? Add a sparkling clean room, fresh fruit and perfect hosts to top it off and you've found the essence of Hawaiian hospitality. I highly recommend the Balai Kona Tropical Paradise. Sylvia and Karen are the perfect hosts, quick to answer requests and open ears to hear about your day. Of the numerous hotels, apartments, inn's, etc, I've stayed at over the years, this is by far the very best. Ask for Sylvia's Cheesecake, it's to die for :)

Comments: Staying with Sylvia and Karen was great. I was joining a night manta tour the same day and didn't get there until very late. Karen was happy to give me a tour of the room and facilities. The room is as described with an outdoor shower. One of the mornings they also made me a breakfast unfortunately I had already headed out for the day. They also invited me to a barbecue on my last night and it was wonderful food and drinks. I got to meet the other tenants as well as a few of Sylvia/Karen's friends. Thank you for your generous hospitality! I would love to come back for another stay next time I am on big island!

Comments: Sylvia is amazing host, her house is very beautiful and the neighbors are very quiet. she treated me as her family. She cooked very delicious foods for me, I almost enjoyed every dinner with her. The best thing is that she took me to go to hunting flowers and mangoes then she cooked fantastic mango cheese cake for me using we picked up mangoes. I feel the best thing for my Hawaii trip is that I knew Sylvia, she is very kind, warm heart and always have beautiful smile on her face and she loves people.I am really lucky to stay her house, definitely I must stay her house if I come Hawaii again because I feel it is my second home.

Comments: What can I say about staying at this Airbnb home that most of their guests have not shared already? I missed them the day I left their property; that's how much of an impact and memorable they were to me. The location is just perfect, the guest house was clean and so comfortable. The hosts were A++ host! You get two different personalities from the host. Karen is well versed and is connected to the current affairs and history. Sylvia is bubbly and makes you feel like family. So anyone can vibe with any one of them. I got to really connect with Karen as she made time to spend with me in the evenings. She made me breakfast every morning out of her own good heart and drawn these cute little maps for me. Sylvia and I shared time together in the morning during breakfast and we had girl talks. I'm quite positive that these ladies will go out of their way to make sure you enjoy the most out of the Big island and provide you with tips and help you as much as they can. This island is my favorite Hawaiian island and I'm sure it's because these lovely ladies played a tremendous part in it. They made my experience so warm, adventurous, and touched my heart and soul. I have come away with new friends and beautiful memories. I suggest everyone stay with these lovely ladies at their beautiful home if you get a chance! Their hospitality is top notch. No hesitation needed.

Comments: I didn't get to meet Sylvia during my stay but Karen took great care of me. The room was spacious and airy, and the bed super comfy. My absolutely favorite thing was the outdoor shower. So refreshing. Karen gave me insider tips on the best places to eat, the places with the best views and the best things to see. She drew me little maps to help me with my itinerary so that I wouldn't miss a little local hideaway and also educated me on how to eat a Hawaiian passion fruit. My only regret was that I couldn't stay longer.

Comments: We LOVED Sylvia's place! So cozy, comfortable, and with the friendliest hosts- this place was our Hawaiian home. The space is so cute and bursting with Hawaiian charm. The location is great too- 8 minutes from the airport, 15 minutes from Kailua- Kona, close to many white beaches and hikes. Sylvia is so kind and generous. She greeted us with a big smile and a delicious homemade dinner when we arrived, many dishes using the fresh fruits and vegetables she grows in her own garden! We still think of the mango salsa. She also left us fresh fruits and made breakfast for us! Karen is wonderful too- she helped us plan our whole trip, and she gave us great local tips on restaurants, supermarkets, etc. They really went the extra mile to make us feel welcome, and living at their place made our vacation on the Big Island so wonderful. We will definitely stay here again when we return :)

Comments: We had an awesome time staying at Sylvia's. As long as you have a rental car the house is in an excellent location only 15 minutes from the airport and up on the hill where it's not so hot (great for me). We didn't get to meet Sylvia whilst we were staying but I communicated with her sister Karen prior to my visit and she took the time to suggest some things for my itinerary, which were all great suggestions. IMO staying here was a much better option than staying in a hotel or resort. Much Mahalo

Comments: Sylvia and Karen were so helpful and welcoming from the moment I arrived, which was much needed as a travel-weary, first-timer in Hawaii arriving after 9:00 at night. I had very little planned for the three days I was in Kona and Karen took the time as soon as I arrived to make sure I had some ideas for the next day and knew how to get around. During my stay, Sylvia graciously showed me her property with its abundance of fruits and flowers and provided fresh fruit and other treats outside my room in the morning. I definitely felt very welcomed and comfortable during my stay.

Comments: Aloha is all around. I felt so spoiled being a guest of Sylvia and Karen. Easy and full of Aloha Sylvia and Karen are so charming and sparkling and warm-hearted and connecting giving me a welcome feeling. I felt at home with Aloha, love and lightness and „just be what you are“. We were 4 with Kevin and celebrated this outstanding sunset on the terrace cuddling up in cosy blankets at 22,2 Celsius ;). It feels already like family. I felt really spoiled, am most thankful for this precious moments of my Hawaii experience. Sylvia is a passionate cook, was preparing delicacies for the sunset, making sure i ate enough. We had a great fun time , wonderful have Kevin join the party and were sharing thoughts and experiences about travelling all around the world. Thank you also for this bowl of fresh avocado and fruit. I enjoyed every bite. The outside shower has deliciously hot-hot water and is a sight for itself. The bed was inviting and i sank in the comfy matrace that is rather soft and slept heavenly, although short, due to jetlag. It was perfect to have my own entrance right where my car was parked in the driveway. So good not to disturb anyone when leaving or arriving. I say Mahalo. Thank you and good bye and see you soon again i wish dearly.

Comments: Where do we even begin... Since the minute we began our stay with Sylvia and Karen, we felt embraced by the aloha spirit. From all the Airbnb’s that we’ve stayed in, these ladies have far surpassed all expectations. Firstly, their house is beautiful and you can see a lot of effort was put into creating such a warm atmosphere. There are a lot of cool artifacts that these ladies have collected throughout their adventures and that contribute to the ambiance. Sylvia’s garden is spectacular. The deck is really nice. They are both very skilled cooks; often times they spoiled us with fruits, exquisite meals, wine, bread pudding, and other goodies. All of which pales to their company. Sylvia works at a tour company and therefore knows a lot about excursions offered on the island. Whereas Karen was extremely helpful for giving us great recommendations and planned itineraries for local adventures that we would not have otherwise found. Her maps are very clear and even without gps we could easily navigate ourselves to each destination. Sylvia and Karen have the sweetest little cat, Lani. Our only regret was having not stayed longer.

Comments: Our stay in Kona was the first using Airbnb, but it won't be our last because of the stay with Sylvia and Karen. They were the perfect hosts. Sylvia had Pupus (appetizers) for us when we arrived. Actually, they weren't just appetizers, she kept bringing out food, and by the time we were done, we didn't need a meal that evening! We sat on her huge, beautiful Lanai in posh seating and were treated to a beautiful Hawaiian sunset as well. Then Karen, our other host, sat down with us and wrote out all the best sights and activities which was greatly appreciated and very helpful. Friday evening before we left, Sylvia invited friends over and prepared a fabulous meal. Their home and hospitality is so delightful that two of their prior Airbnb guests have stayed on with them permanently. The room was comfortable with couches and table on the lanai right outside our door. I was a bit hesitant about an outdoor shower, but it was fun! Thanks, Sylvia and Karen! Y'all come see us in Texas when you get a chance!

Comments: Sylvia and Karen are one of the best hosts I‘ve had so far on airbnb. Not only do they have great tips on where to go and what to see on the island. But they just love to have people around and have fellowship. I was invited to have dinner on their balkony, enjoyed a glass of wine while looking at the clear sky. They would even take good care of me while I was sick, bringing down some breakfast and tea ;) I can absolutely recommend Sylvia and Karen!
