Full bathroom and kitchen with a garden view, minutes from the airport, Downtown/Chinatown, accessible to all the getaway roads. Compact-sized off-street parking spot. Space: Comfortable, private one-bedroom, fully furnished, with full bath and kitchen, downstairs from our family home. There's a portable AC in the bedroom for the summer months. It has a private entrance, and a compact off-street parking spot. You'll have access to our shared washer and dryer. It's rather quiet, in spite of the urban setting, as the unit is tucked away in the garden, and many birds make themselves at home in the mango tree. We are centrally located on the slopes of Punchbowl Crater, it's not glamorous but minutes away from the airport, downtown/Chinatown, and thoroughfares connecting to all destinations. We are within a bike ride from UH, blocks away from the Honolulu Museum of Art, and very close to Queen's Hospital and Straub Hospital.

Neighborhood Overview: Although it's a very urban neighborhood, it's still friendly and slow-paced. We are on the slopes above Chinatown's shops and restaurants. The location is very convenient, a short drive to Kailua over the Pali, minutes to Manoa, blocks away from the Museum of Art, and close to H1 access in both directions.

Notes: Children are most welcome. We have two young children and although we are busy with school and activities, this is our home, and they roam the garden on occasion. There is a swing, and a bench, and a table in the patio which we are happy to share.

Transit: If you are not in a hurry, the bus system will work for you, although you may have to transfer lines a couple of times. The bus lines # 4 and 6 stop within two blocks of our house. If you are not afraid to walk, the more frequent line # 1 stops by the Museum of Art on Beretania St. You can get all bus schedules and travel directions from the company's website. This being said, Honolulu is tailored to car life, and getting around O'ahu is easier with your own wheels. We offer a small parking spot within the property. If your vehicle doesn't fit, there's street parking available.

Access: Our family home is upstairs, and we share the entrance gate, but you'll have a space of your own. The unit is down a flight of stairs from the street entrance. Your kitchen overlooks the garden. You are welcome to enjoy the garden or sit in the patio, where we may cross paths. Feel free to come by for a chat, or a cup of tea.

Interaction: We live upstairs, so we shall be neighbors, and although we run around a lot in our daily lives we will likely be crossing paths frequently. Don't hesitate to ask for anything, or come up for a chat!

House Rules: No smoking, please.

Comments: This was a great air b&b experience! Maya, Chris and their kids were amazing hosts, and we had a great time playing in their garden. They were so generous with their time, and with food! We wish we lived closer so we could come back soon! I cannot recommend this place highly enough as a great, centrally located place to stay for exploring Honolulu - especially with kids!

Comments: Maya and Chris were truly lovely hosts, easy to chat to, cultured and traveled, friendly and open, and very kind and generous. I also enjoyed the kids' company. If you are looking for somewhere to stay that is self-contained, with private access and generously-sized, this is great. The location is excellent for getting to Chinatown and nearby supermarket/Longs, and from there, there are multiple busses to all over the island. There are a several different bus stops close by the house too. I really enjoyed my stay here and wish that it could have been for longer.

Comments: The place was very charming and the interior was just as shown (in the photos), very clean and well-decorated w/lots of nice touches. Chris and Maya were wonderful hosts/landlords very respectful of your privacy yet very helpful. They even shared their eggs, milk, coffee, etc. with me and very thoughtful. The back yard is an absolute gem!! and should not be missed - spend some time there, if you can - esp. in the mornings; it's like this oasis (Website hidden by Airbnb) The neighborhood is OK - Pele St. is on a hill on the slopes of Punchbowl, I believe, but the street is VERY steep. The parking in their driveway is a bit tricky so initially you may need help - I did but it was fine after the first try. The steps leading to the house (it's downstairs) could be challenging for some since it's also rather steep and at night, a bit difficult. The motion detector lights did not work. I suggested a guard rail to assist you down the steps so maybe that'll help some. Also there are children upstairs, so if the patter of little feet/footsteps bother you, you may want to look elsewhere but it didn't bother me. I'm sure it's much better in the winter or spring time since the Punchbowl area can be very hot/muggy on Kona-wind days. But it's very pleasant in the early mornings and late afternoons and there are two ceiling fans. The bed was very comfortable and there's also a large monitor for viewing Netflix streaming. The view out the front door/windows isn't much but if you're planning to just do shopping (like me and out most of the day) and not there for the view, it's fine. Overall, I thought it was a very positive, good experience and place.

Comments: Probably the nicest and most helpful hosts I have ever stayed with. Very helpful with many good tips. Can't recommend them enough. The space has all the amenities, and shows how thoughtful the host is. It is only around 10 minutes from the airport. I enjoyed how peaceful the place was. If you want to really experience Hawaii, stay here.

Comments: Maya was very hospitable and the welcome package she put together for us was so generous! We would definitely come back to their place as it was just as described and more! The rental was very clean, comfortable, centrally located, and cute. Thank you Maya and Chris for allowing us to stay at your wonderful slice of Hawaii.

Comments: Maya is such a warm and caring host. She provides so many treats upon arrival such as fresh fruits, chocolates, coffee, etc. She really makes you feel at home. We will definitely be returning to her place. Mahalo Maya.

Comments: Maya and Chris are so nice hosts. In addition, their son and daughter are also lovely and friendly to me. They always welcomed me with warm smiles when I come back. I also love the rooms so much. They have many rooms, and they are all big for me. The kitchen and bath is very useful! I hope I could come back here!!!!

Comments: Maya is so sweet..a naturally welcoming spirit. Her family's guest space was perfect for our stay in Honolulu. Everything was clean, bright and well ventilated. We weren't expecting any food or drinks, but Maya got us started with both. The location is great - just off the highway, and we were happy to have our own parking spot.

Comments: We had a wonderful stay in Honolulu with Maya and Chris and the kids (free hugs). They were so kind to leave us a starter package of food, offered us to bring something along from the supermarket, drove me to the airport to pick up my car, gave us lots of ideas and hints what to visit. It's a very nice, clean and spacious appartment, perfectly located to discover Honolulu, and I am not only talking of Wikiki (take bus 4 and 13, we left the timetable in the appartment). Mahalo for everything!

Comments: This wonderful friendly hosting family gave me a very warm welcome and made me feel at home for a 12 hours lay over between flights in Hawaii. The place is an cosy separate well maintained apartment in the lower floor of the house, itself in a quiet part of town about 15min drive from the airport. It has all you would need for an extended stay and has a fast wifi internet connection. It is about 20minutes walk from Chinatown. I highly recommend this place to any traveler needing peaceful place to rest or a comfortable base for a stay in Honolulu.

  • Reviewer: José

Comments: The hosts are a lovely family who not only welcomed with several treats but looked after me throughout my stay. The house is as described, comfortable and with a nice garden; the internet worked fine. I decided to use a bicycle to commute to the University of Hawaii, which was an excellent decision. There is a supermarket 10 minutes away, walking distance, open all hours. There is also a bus stop nearby.

Comments: What a lovely experience of Honolulu! We had our own private dwelling which we could come and go as we pleased. Maya was away so Chris looked after us. He provided a delicious breakfast and various other goodies including wine and chocolate for our stay. He was friendly and helpful offering suggestions for places to explore and transportation methods. Overall a very comfortable and enjoyable stay!

  • Reviewer: Thomas

Comments: This is a spacious, comfortable space. The living room area is quite wide, as is the kitchen. All facilities work nicely, and the parking spot was also very helpful. We enjoyed chatting with the host about our respective travels, and felt a strong sense of hospitality. This was more than just a transaction--it had a nice personal touch. Thanks!

Comments: Chris and Maya have a great appartement in which I felt immediately at ease, felt like home with everything you need and a perfect bed. Chris was a great host and provided food and coffee where needed, plus conversations I really enjoyed! The appartement is located at a non-tourist neighborhood, which I find a great plus. Although downtown Honolulu is within walking distance (appr. 15-25 min, depending where you're going) and busses are nearby, I personally felt a car would be the most convenient to explore the island to the fullest. I would definitely recommend this appartement (and its hosts!) as a 'home'-base for island-exploring.

Comments: Wonderful host! Nice place with all of the amenities and great location for easy access. Would definitely stay again.

Comments: Maya's was a lovely place close to Honolulu's Chinatown (great dining possibilities for asian kitchen close by) and approximately a 10 min drive away from Waikiki beach. A beautiful apartment with lots of love for the detail. From the cold welcome beer in the fridge to the tiny candles and other decorations, everything was neat and tidy and made us feel comfy during our last days on Oahu. Oh, and the spacious walk in closet was perfect for getting ready and prepping our luggage for the trip back home. Would definitely come back!

Comments: Large clean apt, located in a residential area. Maya was not there but her husband Chris took care of everything in a perfect way. He even bought some food and beers and wine for us; it's the way they welcome the airbnb guests! Very nice! Communication via texts with Maya was very easy and quick even though she wasn't there. Would def. recommend this place!!!

  • Reviewer: Trisha

Comments: We had a great stay here at Maya and Chris' place near Punchbowl. The house itself was perfect for a stay in Honolulu. Close to the freeway, close to town and a very quiet area. The house is very spacious, too. They are nice enough to offer parking which is much needed in the area (due to the steep street there's only street parking on one side). The parking stall was MUCH appreciated, as we were in town for a wedding and kept some crazy hours! Chris was awesome and very accommodating. The backyard garden was also beautiful, wish we had more time to enjoy it. All in all, would recommend this airbnb to anyone coming to Honolulu!

  • Reviewer: Hubert

Comments: One of the best airbnb hosts I have encountered. So kind, reliable, and available if needed. Check-in was easy, place was just as described, offered to bring groceries or things I needed back from the market, etc. When I changed my itinerary to leave a day early, they even tried to get me a refund for the extra day I payed. Would gladly do again. Thank you for the great experience.

100% weiterempfehlung!

Comments: Maya and Chris are excellent hosts and put a ton of heart into this apartment and their guests! It is clean, warm, cozy, and stocked with everything (videogames, fruit, utensils, a microwave, the list goes on!). It's only 10 minutes from the airport and the directions were really easy to follow. We were also within walking distance from some really good places to eat. The only potential downside is that the great location also means that it is close to a busy road, so it might not be the best option for light sleepers. Overall, we were absolutely elated to have this as our first AirBnB experience. If we are ever back in the area, we will definitely ask to stay again.

Comments: We enjoyed our stay at the apartment. The hosts were responsive and accommodating. There were no major issues to speak of. The apartment can be a little cold at night during the winter - the hosts provided an extra comforter to solve this problem.

  • Reviewer: Valdis

Comments: Chris was a very gracious and helpful host. He provided us with both breakfast supplies and information on the island. The apartment was very cozy and had everything that we needed to make our one week stay comfortable. The yard in back was an oasis--very peaceful and lush with vegetation. The location is superb--very centrally located for any activities you may wish to pursue. There is a space available (behind a locked gate) where one can park their vehicle, so it is not left out in the street. Our stay was very enjoyable and we will probably try to come back next year around the same time to enjoy more of the beautiful island, cozy apartment, and great host! Thanks for everything Chris!

Comments: Perfect place for those who don't like busy Waikiki. Location is very good if you are with the car and want to visit all other places in Oahu.

  • Reviewer: Gina

Comments: I could not recommend this lovely and spacious and super clean 1-bedroom unit more! This was our first AirBnB experience and if you don't mind being away from the touristy parts of Waikiki, this is an excellent choice. Nestled into the back of the house like a quiet breezy sanctuary, it had everything we needed including a full kitchen, comfy bed, huge tv and netflix (we barely used that but so appreciated that amenity), and clean spacious bathroom with lots of extra towels. The temperature inside the unit was perfect, with the windows open and ceiling fans on there is a solid breeze going through the entire place, at one point we even had to wake up in the morning and turn the fan off because it was getting a bit chilly. We didn't miss not having a/c here, it was not needed at all. We never got to meet Maya but Chris was the ideal host, greeting us at the driveway and showing us how to park inside the gate (safe off the street parking a major plus!), he was easy to have conversations with and we left feeling like we made a new friend. Also, the check in and check out was very lax - Chris and Maya worked with our schedule and we appreciated that immensely as we didn't want to drive around with all of our luggage and surfboards.

Comments: Maya, Chris and family are gracious, thoughtful hosts who made my stay in Honolulu special. When I arrived off the plane (late), Maya presented me a home cooked lunch. When I threw my clothes in the washer, I later found them pressed and neatly folded. Their apartment is cozy as advertised. It felt good to come home each day to a clean, breezy, thoughtfully appointed home. I loved sleeping in the envelope of the cool Hawaii breeze. Thank you for a wonderful experience!

Comments: This was the perfect AirBnb! The location was great, and walkable to good lounges and restaurants, and the space was perfect for a couple. This spot stands out because of the hosts! Chris and Maya were easy to contact, attentive, and so kind. They even had some breakfast foods for us so we could feel at home. We are so happy to have spent our time in Honolulu here - I'd recommend this listing to anyone.

Comments: So great we decided to stay twice! (See my previous review). Thank you Maya and Chris for the hospitality and aloha.

  • Reviewer: Nathalie

Comments: The apartment was nice, the location was definitely convenient for people working/visiting the greater Honolulu/ Pearl City area. Maya left a few food items for me at the house (yogurt, fruit). The kitchen worked well, (stove, microwave, French press) with basic dishes. Wifi and a TV with Apple TV set-up so you can stream Netflix or I tunes! The location is also very close to Punchbowl Cemetery, Tantalus Drive, and the Pali Highway (which will get you to Kailua in short order). Overall an easy and convenient place to stay in a mixed residential neighborhood. Maya and Chris were really friendly and want to make sure you have everything you need to have a great stay with them.

Comments: Maya and Chris' place met our needs wonderfully. Away from the crowds of downtown, ease of access to anywhere and private parking. The space was clean, neat and bright. I recommend staying here for trips to the island and if ever I make a return trip, I'll definitely check availability. Thanks guys!

Comments: Maya's husband Chris was very welcoming and accommodating (Maya was out of town at the time, which she messaged me about in advance). We had a flight that arrived pretty late at night, so we got to their place late. Chris communicated with us very well and was there to welcome us when we arrived. The place was just what we needed to crash for our first night on Oahu. Close to Chinatown and easy access to freeways for points further away. If we stayed longer, we could've made use of the kitchenette. Thanks!

  • Reviewer: Josh And Renee

Comments: We had a nice stay in Maya's cozy 1-br. The space was clean and breezy and had everything we needed for our short stay. Having off-street parking was very nice but be warned that it's a tight fit if you have a larger vehicle.

  • Reviewer: Luke

Comments: Maya and Chris are fantastic hosts. Friendly, welcoming and kind. The apartment is true to the photos and in a good area. We were comfortable and felt at home there, cooking our own meals and eating them in the lovely garden under the mango tree. 20 minutes drive to the beautiful Kailua beach where the swimming is great. The private car park behind a gate was really great for downtown Honolulu and we got a Camaro in there!

Comments: My boyfriend and I stayed at Maya's for 2 days beginning of May. We got everything that we needed, the place is cosy and comfortable. We didn't get to see Maya but her husband Chris was very nice, he gave us indications when we needed and made sure we weren't missing anything. You can either walk to diwntown Waikiki (1hr), which we did on the first night just to visit, or you can take the bus (10-15min) because parking your car can be difficult, as in any city!

  • Reviewer: Marissa

Comments: Maya and her husband were very accommodating and communicative. The lock box was a perfect touch since my boyfriend and me needed to drop our luggage off at the unit earlier than expected. The unit itself was much larger than we expected, with a spacious living room space, huge bathroom, and even a walk in closet! We only got to stay for one night but if I'm in the area again I would definitely stay here. It's tucked away enough to feel at peace among the activity of Honolulu but still accessible to freeways and bus lines.

Comments: I rented this unit on behalf of my father who came to visit me for my graduation. Maya and Chris were very responsive and communicative throughout the booking process. The unit was a bit older, but was clean and equipped with everything my dad needed for the three days he was there. The stairs to get down to the unit were a bit steep and difficult for him to get up and down. He also mentioned that there was a lot of noise coming from the surrounding houses.

Comments: Chris is very friendly and accomodating. The very cozy one bedroom house is clean and spacious lots of outlets and free wifi. Kitchen is complete with fridge, microwave, and oven range. Floor is spotless. Bathroom is huge and new. A few steps away from bus stop and also off street parking. Place feels very safe and secure. I am glad we stayed here for the weekend.

Comments: The apartment is extremely cozy, clean and a nice home away from home. Maya provided all necessary information to make my stay comfortable, easy & efficient. The apartment is close to public transport, so it's easy to get around if you are moving around the city that way. Overrall a great experience. Thanks!

Comments: Great little place to stay. Super clean and affordable which is very difficult to find on Oahu. Close to the airport and town. The host, Chris, was very nice and accommodating. Hope to stay there again in the future.

  • Reviewer: Shawn

Comments: The one bedroom apartment was more than expected. It offered privacy in an already crowded city, which is a welcome to any traveler. There is parking on the property or on the street, whichever you prefer. The bed was comfortable and there were plenty of towels available. Thank you so much!!!

Comments: Maya wasn't in town so we were greeted by her husband. He was very nice, waited patiently for us at the place and showed us the apartment. He also advised us on where to get dinner. The place was clean and fully equipped with everything we needed. The kitchen was also well equipped, though we didn't use it. One thing to note is that there was no AC in the apartment so it was quite warm when we got there (in the middle of the summer). However, we got by fine by taking a cold shower and turning up the fan in the room. There's a parking space for a compact car within the fence, and it was useful because we rented a car. We were also glad that there were the motion-sensing lights that helped us getting to the door at night. Overall we had a great experience at Maya's place. We would definitely stay again. Thank you :)

Comments: Our host Chris was very hospitable. He even bought us a box of chocolates when we arrived. Although we arrived earlier than the check in time, Chris allowed us to check in our luggage first. The apartment is very cozy, clean and comfortable. It is a nice location, away from the hustle and bustle of Waikiki. It's fairly quiet except for the occasional loud vehicle. We intended to stay for only 5 days, but we extended our stay for another 3 days. Thanks Chris for being so kind!

Comments: Greeted by Chris who was very friendly and welcoming. Nice oasis for the traveler with a garden-like setting outback where you feel like you are out of the hustle & bustle of local city life. Close to the airport and great for the short-stay business traveler. Complete amenities & very clean.

Comments: We arrived from 20-hour trip from Singapore to a welcoming home of Maya. Frey (her son) and Pandora (her daughter) were greeting us with big smiles on their face. My wife caught a cold on the way and was not feeling well so we rested at home for a couple of hours. Maya gave us tea and grapefruit juice and offered a ride to shopping mall but we slept through for several hours. The next morning my wife became more sick so she rested at home. Maya was extremely kind as she let us check out late and lend us the necessity we needed. We went to a clinic and stayed home until 5pm and left for a flight at 640pm. Maya's place was really close to hospital and many restaurants and we were able to commute to airport within 12mins. We would not have been able to get this kind of hospitality if we stayed at a hotel downtown. We were very lucky to have chosen Maya's place to stay in Honolulu. Her two children were so friendly and welcoming. What a wonderful host family they are.

Comments: Perfect accommodations for my short business trip. Spacious layout, home is nestled into a garden of mango and palm trees, ceiling fans sufficiently cooled the house, convenient location for commute to downtown and vicinity, found a number of street routes for running to the beach and UH. Maya and Chris are incredibly gracious hosts and made my stay extremely comfortable. Their communication was top notch, they provided some food/drinks and brought fresh mangoes daily, and they provided every supply/personaI item that I needed. I highly recommend this property, and its hosts and I will definitely look to stay there again when I return.

Comments: Maya was very welcoming and the apt is nice and more spacious than I thought. She left some food for breakfast, coffee and everything I would need in the kitchen to feel at home. The jalousie windows provide a good cross breeze, natural lighting and fresh air. TV has a nice custom built in shelving (I'm an engineer) and Netflix and wifi provided. Best of all she was kind enough to let me check out late which was great for me to relax enjoy the day and return to pack and prepare for my late evening flight. She stayed in communication with me when necessary and was very responsive. The apt perfect if you need to be near the downtown area and have transportation. I highly recommend.

Comments: Maya is a wonderful host. She is very welcoming and has a great warmth to her. Communication and location were great. The 1-bedroom apartment seems larger than the photos. The unit is shaded by trees, so it stays cool!

Comments: We chose Maya's because we need a place close to the airport for an early morning departure, which it worked well - about a $25 cab faire. When we arrived we were greeted by Maya's two very cute kids who helped us with our luggage and were excited to have visitors!! Maya came out with snacks and two beers!!! What a treat, there were already a couple of beers in the fridge - but we had brought a bottle of wine so we left those for the next guest. Maya was very gracious, offered any help we needed lol including a ride from dinner back to the house to be provided by her husband. LOL I'm not sure Chris was in on the offer!! But we were tired and snacks and wine were just right as we relaxed watching a Net Flixs movie. Maya also provided yogurt, coffee, tea, bread and butter for toast, oat meal and best of all fresh Mangos from their tree in the back yard!!! The guest room was clean, and comfortable, a bit sparse but perfect for what we needed. We took a quick walk uphill through the middle class neighborhood to stretch our legs prior to our flight and had great views of the City and Diamond Head Thanks Maya!!! Dan & Kathy

Maya was so warm, easy to communicate with, and helped us a lot with planning out our time on Oahu (e.g restaurants, beaches, hikes, etc). The space itself was great too- super cute, clean, private, and a great location. There was also coffee and tea, snacks, and fresh mangos for us to enjoy. We HIGHLY recommend booking with Maya!!

Comments: Maya and Chris and the kids were awesome; very welcoming. Place is as advertised - was great for me to have the full kitchen so I could cook. Stayed here during a work trip and it was extremely convenient - short commute to Ford Island and pretty easy to get everywhere in town. Their mango tree was in season and the mangoes were incredible.

Comments: I cannot possibly say enough good things about Maya and her home! What a sweet little oasis in the middle of the city! Maya and her great kids made our stay so memorable - not to mention the fresh-picked mangos that we ate greedily. First wonderful surprise was that they saved us a parking spot inside the fence, I had been worried about parking on their street, but they took good care of us. Maya gave me a nice tour of the house (there's laundry!), which involved several steep stairs (not a problem for us, but worth noting for others), and into the apartment. I was shocked from the second she opened the door - it was SO much nicer than I was expecting! Just beautiful! And the kitchen was filled with so many treats and cooking supplies that I felt like we were really staying in a friend's home. There is no AC, but the fan in the bedroom was more than adequate, and we were there during the hottest summer on recent record, so anyone staying in the future will be fine, I promise. It was a bit noisy at night (not from the hosts, from street and neighbors) but wasnt too bad considering the busy location in the city. Also, we were flying standby and were not sure if we could fly home on schedule or not. Maya was SO accommodating to hold the room an extra night for us, and was great with keeping in contact with us the whole time. The apartment was wonderful, but what really made this stay shine was Maya and her family. Thank you for a great stay!

Comments: I spent three nights in this apartment last weekend and was very pleased with it. First, Maya responded right away to my reservation and we ended up e-mailing back and forth quite a bit. She's extremely responsive and friendly. Unfortunately she wasn't in town during my stay in Honolulu so her husband, Chris, let me in. Very nice guy - he even offered to give me a ride to my hotel in Waikiki (which I had booked only because the apartment was booked for the fourth night of my trip). The space is very comfortable for one person and certainly adequate for two. In addition to the bedroom, there's another room resembling a large walk-in closet where you can store your luggage so that it's not next to the bed. The bathroom is quite spacious as well. This is a perfect place if you want/need to be close to downtown and/or away from the tourist madness of Waikiki. You get a better sense of the "real" Honolulu and are much closer to Iolani Palace, the Bishop Museum, and Pearl Harbor than if you stay in Waikiki. I walked to downtown in 15 minutes and also discovered a bus line with a stop only two blocks away from the house. The wi-fi signal is strong if that's something you need to have. Note that there is no air conditioning, though. There are ceiling fans in the main room and the bedroom which we were sufficient for my stay.

Comments: This was our first time using ABB & what a great experience. Our host was very helpful, kind & went out of their way to accommodate us. The place was very clean & much roomier than we expected. We were pleasantly surprised. Maya suggested that we eat the mangoes from their very fruitful tree & they were delicious! We would absolutely stay again. The only thing that was a little rough was the lack of air conditioning. Lucky for us the weather was very pleasant during our stay but j can imagine this could be an issue during the hotter months. Overall excellent experience!

Comments: We felt very welcomed. Chris met us promptly as scheduled to check us in, give us a tour of the place, and provided us with tips on what to do and see in the area. We were very comfortable during our stay! Thank you.

Comments: This was our third Airbnb during our trip to Oahu, and what a delight it was to arrive in Maya's apartment - it was very clean and very spacious, the opposite of our previous two apartments. While we did not get to meet her, Maya's husband Chris was very attentive and very nice, and chatted with us when we checked in. The apartment does not have AC, but the fans and windows all around make it breezy so we had no problems. The location is very far from the beach, but this gave us an opportunity to explore nearby Chinatown a bit, which we actually liked.

Comments: Great place for two, spacious and clean. Chris was super helpful in getting us checked in. Free parking was a nice surprise!

Comments: Maya's husband met us at the apartment. He showed us around, gave us info about the neighborhood and places to eat. The apt was as described. Central location, close to Chinatown, Waikiki and historical sites. Not far to Pearl Harbor.

Comments: Maya and Chris are wonderful hosts, their kids are very polite and lovely. The suite is better than what we expected, very clean and big and comfortable. Thanks Maya and Chris for the wine and nice treats, and for your good hiking suggestions, we did make to Makapuu Lighthouse on our last day, and saw lots whales there. Cheers!

Comments: Since this was our second chance to experience this wonderful nook in paradise, I guess you could say that we are repeat offenders :). It was wonderful to meet and talk with Chris again. We always seem to miss Maya, since she escapes to the Seattle mainland with the kids for school during the times that we have been there. Chris is a great host. He is there when you need him, and always ready to help and provide advice, but we always felt that this was our home and it was easy to forget that we were just passing thru. Thanks Chris!! We are thinking of coming again next year, so stay tuned!

Comments: Everything was great and exactly as described. I never met the hosts but they were very responsive on the phone. The kitchen had all the utensils and stuff that you would want if you're cooking. The couch you can see is wicker and not super comfortable. The bed was good and there's room to hang up clothes in the closet. There are somewhat steep stairs down to the door. Not bad at all but just in case you don't do stairs well it would be good to know. The shower is a little dingy but not bad. The outside area and stairs down to the apartment are beautiful. Lots of tropic plants. It's close to the highway so it's easy to get wherever. Overall it's cute and cozy and I'd stay there again.

Comments: This apartment was great, and Chris was fantastic! We had a few questions while we were there and he was quick to respond and help. The apartment was easy to find, well located, and very clean. THey even left some coffee and snacks for us. We would definitely recommend them or stay there again.

Comments: If you want to be in the centre of the action in Honolulu but still feel like you are in the suburbs, this is the place. Located a comfortable walk from the very centre of Honolulu CBD, staying with Chris with Maya was like staying in your friend's spare room. While we did not meet our hosts during our stay, everything was ready for us and their communication and directions to the flat were exemplary. Clean, cool, secure and comfortable and had everything we needed. We walked everywhere from here and felt safe at all times. We walked into Chinatown and as far as the Bishop Museum and back from here with ease. When we had to catch a taxi home it cost roughly $12 from the Ala Moana Centre so a cheap trip. Bathroom and all facilities were clean and well maintained. Not fancy, but I suspect fancy people don't use airbnb and actually stay in hotels at Waikiki and pay four times as much as this and have no interest in seeing how real Hawaiians live! We loved staying here. Would suit fit and independent travellers with a sense of adventure wanting to make their trip up as they go along, and see urban sights of Hawaii outside the Waikiki tourist strip. A chance to see contemporary Hawaiian culture in the sights and happenings in the streets around you. A couple of points to note: if you find the gate latch difficult to open lift the gate up. Bed squeaks a little ;). Stairs to the flat are steep so take care. If you are taking a airport transfer or taxi tell them it is the TOP side of the street above the freeway and give them the crossroad as the street continues both sides of the freeway. Things NOT to miss in Honolulu all within good walking distance of here: Zippy's Restaurant, Bishop Museum, Chinatown especially the restaurant called The Pig and The Lady, Honolulu Museum of Arts in South Beritania St (sp?). If you are looking for cheap clothes stop at a Ross store, one right in the city centre. All in all we would definitely stay here again.

Comments: Maya and Chris were great! The apartment we were supposed to stay in was under renovation, so they offered for us to stay in their family home upstairs which was lovely. I can't comment on the apartment downstairs as we never saw it, but the garden is pretty. The hosts were terrific. Great communication and kind people. Neighborhood is adjacent to the freeway which was perfect for us as we needed to be close to the airport on our final night on Oahu. The apartment is also close to grocery stores, downtown, harbor/beach and some good "eats." We had a delicious and inexpensive meal at Bangkok Chef. I would highly recommend this accommodation!

Comments: This entry might sound contrived but it's true. I'm an engineer working for a company with a downtown office near the Aloha Tower. For folks not familiar, hotels are few in the vicinity and those there are, are SUPER expensive. Maya and Chris' place is just up the hill from my office near the Aloha Tower. It's a 12 minute walk and I found out that walking is faster than driving during rush hour, and who can't use a walk? Their place is clean, updated, private, and equipped with everything I needed. Air conditioner in the bedroom, ceiling fans, apple TV, full kitchen with all of the pots, pans, bowls, cups, etc I needed, and they stocked the place with a fresh loaf of bread, eggs, yogurt, bottled water, and juice that I was welcomed to dig into. Why anyone would go farther for a hotel, I can't imagine. I was at the last minute trying to secure a place for my work stuff and Maya and Chris were immediate with their communication by text. Set me up with a lock box and key since I was arriving late, and checked in multiple times during my 3 day stay to make sure that I had everything I needed. Because of our schedules, I never actually got to meet either Maya or Chris, or even speak with them on the phone, but through our text communication and their responsiveness, I felt like a was staying at a friend's place. I'll definitely book here when I'm next time and look forward to finally meeting my new friends in person! 5 stars fer sher!

Comments: A really good place to stay..very convenient to the city and Highway 1, and Chris was very welcoming and helpful. Kitchen facilities were great so we could shop and cook for ourselves, and there was a great assortment of goodies in the fridge for us too. Parking off road was also very convenient.

Comments: Had a great stay at the cozy one bedroom. It was clean and had plenty of space for my stuff. The neighborhood is nice and quiet, but you can also walk downtown in about 15 minutes or take a quick uber. Maya was an accommodating host. Check in and out was a breeze. I'd stay here again :)

Comments: Maya, her husband Chris, and their two children are delightful. I lived in this space for one month while working at the Queen's Medical Center as a fourth year medical sub-intern. If you are rotating at Queen's and need a place to stay look no further! This family absolutely embodied the Aloha Spirit in each of our interactions; they continually went above and beyond to make me feel welcome and comfortable, supplying extra items I requested, sharing their delicious homemade food with me (mango jam, smoothies), providing information about the city - they were just spectacular! Plus, it is a ten minute lovely walk to the hospital. Thank you for a wonderful experience! I hope to return some day soon!

Comments: One of my best Airbnbs so far. Maya and her husband were just amazing hosts. I felt welcome and very comfortable. The Apartment is very cute, perfectly equipped and the location was perfect for me as I was working downtown. I can absolutely recommend to stay there.

Comments: Maya and Chris were wonderful hosts. They were responsive and hospitable. They had the Keurig set with a timer so the water was ready to in the morning and a box of K-cup coffee ready for use. Mornings looking out the kitchen window into their beautiful backyard were worth waking up for. The place was very clean and was stocked with dishes, pots and pans. The full sized refrigerator made it easy to stock up on groceries-- Foodland and Safeway within a few miles. They also shared their washer and dryer which I made good use of before packing up. Their location is perfect as you have easy access to two highways and you're a few minutes to downtown, but just out of it enough that you can manuever around traffic. *Warning: (Hidden by Airbnb) Maps has it mostly right, but hasn't mastered yet which lanes to be in for all freeway/highway changes and some of the loopy-windy roads.* Since rain is fickle, the steps leading down to the apartment can be a little slick. They also are a little steep. Having said that, I think it's fine, but maybe not with young children you have to carry. I made plenty of trips up and down during my 10 days with grocery bags, luggage and all and didn't have a problem, but I was also traveling solo. If you're in town for business or pleasure, you really can't beat this location!

Comments: I was here for a brief stay just for an interview at queens medical, and the location was just perfect roughly a 10 minute walk to get to the hospital and add 5 more and youre in downtown. Chris and Maya have been truly hospitable. Will surely consider staying again. Place was clean all you can ask for.

Comments: Great place in a great location. Walking distance of downtown and all the bus stops you could ever need. The place was nice. Minimal, but had everything you could need on vacation. Its not too noisy around that area, and it made for a great place to crash between adventures, and a place to eat some left overs that we had brought home the night before. Maya was extremely friendly and was always available if we had questions. She even has some hot tips on good local food.
