Comments: Wow. All the luxury of a house in a subdivision but literally at the end of the road and in the middle of a rainforest. The grounds are beautifully landscaped like a garden iof Eden. Fruit trees of every kind, many producing additions to our breakfast. The owner provided everything we needed to enjoy the island, from recommendations on gas, food, restaurants, parks, sights and local hangouts to the snorkeling, boogie boards, beach mats, and beach towels. We didn't need to bring anything except our clothes and primary foods.. Two couples or a family of four could be comfortable here, for the two of us it was very tranquil.

Comments: We had a wonderful time at the JungleHut. Very nice place at the end of the road, right next to the jungle with all its sounds. Well equipped flat, nice surroundings, great support by owner when we had trouble with wi-fi. We can absolutely recommend this place. MJC

Comments: The space smelled musty and was not clean. I did not feel comfortable there due to the dampness, mold and dirt. I did not use the kitchen - the sink was a dirty looking laundry tub. People were staying in the other unit and could see into our sleeping quarters since there were only sheers at some of the windows. The neighbourhood this property is in was also a little scarey i.e. chain link fences around the properties and beware of vicious dog signs. I was also told by some of the locals that this was not a safe neighbourhood. Overall the property was run down and in need of alot of TLC and cleaner. I never saw the host -she only communicated via e-mail so was not available to address any problems. I would not stay there again and would suggest that others skip this experience.

Comments: The jungle hut is a large studio on the ground floor which is part of a 2-story house. The entire property is amazing; located in the rainforest, the property overall is full of life: fruit trees, plants, flowers, nice decorations, etc. just like a jungle! The property is 2-2.5 hrs drive from Kona and 20 mins from Hilo. The studio is equipped with a very large bathroom with lots of towels, kitchenette, laundry units, a queen size bed and a very spacious living area with a big expandable sofa and a large futon which is closer to the kitchenette area. It is a perfect choice if you like nature and would like to be away from the busy city life. The owner, Liz, allowed access to gear for beach activities like snorkels, fins and boogie boards. There is also a beach shower outside next to the house. Covered parking is available as well, so even if you are in a rainforest you do not need to get wet on your way out or in. Liz is very friendly, knowledgeable and willing to help with any questions or concerns. We took her advice during our visit and it was worth it! She knows to guide your way into the local life and island's attractions. She is very welcoming! Mahalo Liz! I would definitely stay here again and i highly recommend this property for your stay in Big Island.

Comments: I really enjoyed staying at Liz's place. The only challenge we had was finding the location in the dark (the directions were great but signs on the road and streets were difficult to read and there were no street lights). Once we got there it was easy to navigate back and forth. The place was great and big enough for a family to enjoy with most of the conveniences of home.

Comments: Great place to stay. As the name says, it is in the rainforest. Really quiet during the day, very noisy at night, with birds everywhere around you. Really loved it!

Comments: The Hawaiian Jungle Hut is as advertised, complete with lychee and coconut tree in the backyard! This is a unique guesthouse located between Hilo and Volcanoes Natl Park that places you in the wilderness. We truly enjoyed visiting the nearby Kapoho Tide Pools (snorkel gear provided by host) and enjoyed the peaceful solitude.

Comments: Liz made sure we had everything we needed. Her house is truly in the rainforest, since there is nothing but wilderness beyond her property, yet it is close to the main road. I really like the home’s eclectic Asian décor. The yard is very private and landscaped with beautiful tropical plants and trees, including a gorgeous rainbow eucalyptus tree, coconuts, passion fruit, avocado, and oranges. The kitchen is fully equipped and we especially appreciated the new gas stove, which made cooking our own meals easier. The in-unit washer & dryer also came in handy.

Comments: Great place! The name is Jungle "Hut" but it is anything but a "hut"! I could easily have stayed and lived out my days here! The "hut" has a full kitchen, spacious living room, single bedroom (but also a futon in the space between the living room and kitchen), and sizable bathroom. And to fall asleep in the jungle to the cuqui frogs' singing is like falling asleep to nature's lullaby! I cannot wait to stay here again! (FYI...a bit of a challenge to find in the dark, so try to arrive in daylight, keeping in mind sunset hits early in Hilo. If you are arriving after dark, the left turn onto Maku'u is exactly as Liz says - 1.0 miles after Paradise Drive. If you've gone 1.3 miles, you've gone too far. I say this because at the time I was there - October 2012 - the street sign warning of Maku'u, when coming from Hilo, was bent and really scuffed up so much as to be illegible.)

Comments: The jungle hut is a beautiful place that feels quite secluded in a jungle setting. Liz provides all the basics and she sent us a wealth of useful information on possible activities nearby. One thing you should be aware of is that it is well outside of Hilo (about 20-25min dirve) but close to the funky village of Pahoe.

Comments: Liz was a highly communicative and hospitable host. The apartment was clean and it was great to have a kitchen, laundry, and tons of towels. Liz would get more stars as a host, but we gave two stars because the rainy side was way rainier than we expected which made our stay in the Jungle Hut pretty disappointing. Unfortunately, it rained most of the time we were in Hilo (which is not at all uncommon, especially in December), so make sure you understand how different the sunny and rainy sides are on the Big Island. Also, because of the constant rain the apartment felt, and smelled, damp and musty. The bed is also under an uninsulated section of awning so the rain was really loud on the roof, which made it hard to sleep. We chose Hilo to be near the Volcanoes and to stay for less money, but we weren't in Hawaii for cool wet weather, so we ended up leaving the Jungle Hut for the Kona Coast for three days where we had perfect, sunny weather. We regretted not spending our whole trip in Kona (or elsewhere on the sunny side) and making a day excursion to Volcanoes N.P. Hilo might be your thing, just make sure it is before you book a place on the rainy side.

Comments: The Hawaiin Jungle hut was a great and nice place to explore big island! The house was very clean and very comfortable!Liz was not on the spot, but gave us a lot of information on farmers markets, restaurants, events, etc.? She was really nice! Unfortunately, it has often been raining so we did not 8 days but only stayed 5 days and then went to the West Coast. I can only recommend liz as host! Thank you!

Comments: Very positive experience staying in Liz's Jungle Hut- it's secluded, spacious, comfortable and displays a distinct style, while offering easy access to the Hilo area. Furnishing and the amount of space were great- there's a likable personal style as you can see from the pics. I was a single and had more room than I needed- the place could easily accommodate several more people and I'm definitely sure a couple would enjoy it. I've gone so far as to suggest it as an away base for a friend who's staying on the Kona side on her upcoming honeymoon. Though I didn't make much use of it, the kitchen was very well outfitted and would be great for longer stays. On site laundry and instant hot water in the showers was greatly appreciated. I spent one particularly rainy day mostly inside working and napping, and it was cool and dry- awesome. The rainforest location is wonderful- I loved having all the frogs singing at night and being able to walk around the property during the day and see local wildlife. At the same time, it's very well located. making it easy to get to Hilo, Kalapana and the lava flows/Uncle Robert's, the eastern side of the saddle road, and Volcano. I'd recommend it as a great base for visiting the eastern side of the island.

Comments: We really enjoyed our stay at the Jungle Hut. The location was both away from everything and close to everything. We enjoyed the rain forrest atmosphere while the house itself was secure and critters were never seen inside. The house was perfectly located between Hilo and the Volcanoes National Park with minimal driving needed to get to all the sites. Liz provided great suggestions and advice on what to do and see and provided all the equipment we needed including snorkel gear, flashlights and umbrellas. The house had a well equiped kitchen and was clean and well decorated. Thank you Liz for a great stay!

Comments: We stayed 3 nights at Liz's place and we totally loved it. The house is located in a very quiet area, full of trees and frogs. That's the only thing you will hear at night!!! Amazing!!! Liz was extremely helpful from the beginning with directions, suggestions and plans for what to do every day. We will keep all her suggestions for future trips. The locations is really convenient to discover the Volcanic Ntl Park, to see the lava flow if you are lucky and do some amazing snorkeling (she provides all the gear for snorkeling). Don't trust (Hidden by Airbnb) maps for the locations...just follow her directions to the house!!! Hope you will enjoy your stay there as much as we did!

Comments: The location was perfect as we wanted to have easy access to Hilo, the National Park, Mauna Kea, and the southeastern part of The Big Island. The Jungle Hut is beautifully decorated with excellent amenities. We really enjoyed being able to cook a breakfast and eat fresh fruit every morning before heading out for another adventure. Liz went above and beyond as an exceptional hostess. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

Comments: We visited the Hawaiian Jungle Hut during our stay in Hawaii. It was in close proximity to where we got married in Orchidland Estates. Our stay was comfortable and well-suited to our needs. We even found chocolates and a bottle of wine upon our arrival. Liz supplied us with very helpful information about the area and activities beforehand, and there's 2 absolutely gorgeous and amazing Rainbow Eucalyptus trees on the property that you must see! mahalo

Comments: We didn't meet Liz in person but she did email us LOTS of info about things to do in the area, including good places to eat and who to talk to about current lava flows. The jungle hut itself was great (and clean) - looks just like in the pictures. It does now have a stove (with a propane tank), though we didn't end up doing any cooking. The jungle sound at night is amazing, but mosquitoes do get in through the screen door and they are relentless (we ended up turning AC on instead). Take a drive to the end of Makuu st as well where you can get to the coast and watch the ocean. It is breathtaking. Overall I'd say this is a great location if you want a cottage-y vacay that is relaxed and away from everything. We were mostly in and out because we wanted to see what the island had to offer.

Comments: I stayed at the Jungle Hut for three nights. Actually it's more like a mini-cottage than a hut :) It has everything you need - from washer to propane stove - and is large enough to feel comfortably. Also liked the interior. As for Liz - she's a great host. Though she didn't show up during my stay, she provided VERY detailed directions to the hut, instructions of how to use it and suggestions about what to see on the Big Island. So, if you're looking for some home to make your base - choose this one. You'll get an excellent place to relax between your travels across the island. Mahalo Liz :)

Comments: The house is very cosy and the stay feels very secluded (and the outskirt of a private home development area). The kitchen is fuctional even if small and there was lots of drinking water provided for our stay plus a bottle of wine and some chocolates. Communication with the owner was easy and she provided lots of info about daytrips in the area. Only drawback is that you share the two-flat house with other visitors. If they have the upper flat it is quite noisy when they are in ( e.g. I woke up several times when they came back in the middle of the night).

Comments: This is a terrific place to stay. It's really more of a cottage (although one attached to another unit) than anything else. There's a huge amount of room and several people could sleep comfortably and happily between the bed, couch, and futon. It was hard to tell from the pictures, but there are really 3 main areas (kitchen, foyer/bedroom area, and living room) plus a walled-off bathroom. The kitchen/bedroom/living area are a very open floor plan. Liz was a great host and sent us lots of information about day trips and activities in the Hilo and Volcano area. We didn't meet her personally, but spoke on the phone several times and got all details necessary for the stay. I would definitely recommend staying here if you're interested in exploring the east side of the big island. The only piece of advice I would give you when staying here is to find the place in the day for the first time. It's easy to drive here once you know how to find it, but the back roads and turns in Hawaiian Paradise Park can be easier to drive in the light for the first time. You'll probably also want to refill the drinking water bottles during the day (there's a station nearby where you can do that for free, but the previous guests hadn't been as considerate when we arrived). This is really not a problem, though, and we enjoyed our stay tremendously!

Comments: From the first contact with the host to the last one, all interactions with the host were prompt and highly useful. On the day of arrival, we were late. But the host had made all arrangements for easy access. The property was cleans and as described in the photos and notes. All amenities were of great help. We had a great stay for 3 nights. This property is in the midst of Rain forest. Every morning, we woke up to the chirping sound of beautiful birds. Property provided easy access to east side of the island. The tips and notes provided by the host were extremely useful. The host goes out of the way to help us and ensure that we see the best of the island. Highly commendable attitude. Highly recommend :)

Comments: An experience you never should miss !! It's really living in the jungle / rainforrest and its awesome !!! The Jungle Hut is a really cozy, clean place, it feels like coming home to your very own vacation condo! If you like the sound of nature, this is the perfect spot! :-) Liz provides you with extensive things-to-do and recommendations which you cannot find in the tourist guides ! Going from Hilo-side to the Kona side is easy using the Saddle Road and takes about 2.5 hours door-to-door from Downtown Kona. We really enjoyed it and would go there again - even if you don't like the rainy Hilo-side it's worth staying there and drive to Kona in the morning ! Mahalo Liz! :-)

Comments: Liz is a super host. She gave us a HUGE amount of advices of things to do in this side of the island and I think she really care about her guests. The place is nice and a very good value. It's easy to fill at home, there is some small lights every where that you can use to create a cosy atmosphere, and the extra towels was worth it too ! in term of location It's easy to go to the volcanoes, and my boyfriend find a surf spot not so far, but we find it a bit far from Hilo. Thanks Liz for the chocolate and bottle of vine too, it was really really appreciated : ) Mahalo

Comments: Hawaiian Jungle Hut is a spacious open plan studio attached to Hawaiian Jungle Hangout (which takes up the second storey of the home). The comfy and colourful interior has a strong Japanese/ Hawaiian influence. The Hut is set amongst lush tropical forest including passion fruit, star fruit and coconut trees. You will not meet Liz but she will give you plenty if advice via email and we had everything we needed. This is the perfect based to explore Puna, Volcano National Park, Mauna Kea and the East of the Big Island.

Comments: The Jungle Hut was a unique place to stay on the Hilo side of the island. Liz did a great job with decorating the hut with all the amenities you need for a stay at guest home. You are truly staying in a rain forest surrounded by lush greenery, birds, and daily rain showers. You're only 10 minutes away from a cute town with local food ad 20 minutes drive to Hilo. The only thing that bothered me was the mosquitoes. Even with Deet and citronella candles, we both have bites all over our bodies. Just be prepared and it shouldn't be an issue. Our overall stay was comfortable and relaxing. Liz also gives a great list of things of activities on the island. She practically helps you plan your whole trip.

Comments: I had some communication issues with Liz as we were request to sign a rental contract while we were already traveling to release us the door code, in the end just one day prior to arriving on her place we received the code… Her place is divided in 2, we stayed on the bottom part, it was very big, it had a big living room and big kitchen. The bathroom was good. There was a air conditioning by the bed, cable TV, full size kitchen, snorkel, laundry with soap, some DVD and books, you will have anything you need there, even more; there is a coffee maker but no free coffee. On the garden there was also passion and start fruit trees. The location is a little remote, about 15 miles to Hilo and the nearest market or food are about 7 miles away and at night was a bit challenging to find, but if you follow the instructions you should get there. The house smelled like have been closed for some time, and the living room and kitchen carpets smelled a little odd. Wi-fi worked very good. Also there was a very annoying alarm on the ceiling that kept beeping every 1 minute more or less

Comments: This place is absolutely awesome! We visited the islands for 4 weeks, and the last stop was the Big Island. Staying in the JungleHangout/JungleHut was the best conclusion of our vacation, we ever could dreamed of. This place is perfect! And Liz was so helpful and allways reachable via eMail. Thank you Liz for making our stay so pleasant! Some facts: - Many people stay on the more touristic westshore around Kona. The Hilo-Side may be more rainy, but much more adorable to my opinion. The people, the prices (of food or gas for example) and the most beautiful Farmes- and Night-Markets. Thumbs up for the Hilo-Side! - Yes, nearly every evening you will hear the rain and the frogs and yes, both is surprisingly loud, but it was not disturbing at all. We loved it. And it was the best sleep we had since weeks. You're in the jungle there and it is beautiful! - Liz is the most helpful person I allways talked to on AirBnB. It's a shame, that we couldn't meet in person, because she was out of the country at that time. Top1-Host!!! So much more compliments to give, so less words left. JungleHangout and JungleHut are best of the best on the Hilo-Side of the Big Island!

Comments: This is a grat accommodation. There are fruit trees in the back and I got Star Fruit, Oranges and Mandarin's every day. It is quiet and all we could hear is the chirping of the frogs at night. The house is well equipped neat and clean. A bottle of wine awaited us on arrival and some chocolate, there was salt and some basic condiments for cooking which was much appreciated, The only thing, you need a car to stay there, it is a bit off the beaten path.

It's really in a convenient location not too far from Hilo, or the great restaurants in Pahoa, Even better than the place, Liz, the owner, is a treasure trove of information when it comes to things to do on the Island, she will send you an itinerary that lets you know everything you need to know or do on the Big Island.

The Hut was clean and well stocked, everything that you could need for a comfortable stay. It was a little off the beaten path but that is part of its charm, I loved the fact that all you could hear were the birds and frogs at night and Liz's directions to find it were right on the mark! Comments: What an excellent stay! The apartment is very comfortable, and quite roomy! Liz was incredibly helpful... she sent me personalized suggestions for activities and events to check out during my stay, and was very accommodating when I asked to extend my visit. The welcome wine was, indeed, very welcome as well! The kitchen has just about any appliance you would need for basic cooking, and the carport outside the entrance to the apartment is very handy when unloading your luggage or stocking your car for a day's adventure. I got rained in one day, and very happily spent the morning drinking coffee in the window seat and watching the weather. Good value for proximity to Hilo and Volcano!

Comments: This was our first Airbnb experience and we loved it! Liz provided us with a myriad of activities to browse from, clear indications and a nice welcoming package. The pictures don't do justice enough to the hut, it's wonderful and very spacious, especially the nice living room. Everything is very comfortable and the jungle hut is really well equipped. The chant of the frogs at night was relaxing, a change of paste. When the propane tank ran out whilst cooking, it was immediately changed the morning after, response was stellar. Location wise, it's ideal to explore the Puna region but a good 25 minutes to reach Hilo, but definitely worth it. We highly recommend the jungle hut and Liz was a really nice host, overall... awesome!

Comments: Liz called me when I got to the island. I had a bit of an issue with my car rental and she was very sweet and empathetic toward me. I felt bad she had to listen to that… I appreciated her call and it was reassuring to hear how friendly she was. Prior to the trip Liz send emails out with lists of things to do and places to go. There were things on there I had already intended to see but many others I would not have known about. I really loved that since I like to see how local ppl live in the places I go to (I'm not a resort person).

Comments: We really enjoyed staying at Liz's place. It was very peaceful and off the beaten path, which was exactly what we were looking for. The use of a washer and dryer made it a great place to land in the middle of our trip. We also enjoyed the wine and chocolate. :)

Comments: The Jungle Hut was perfect for our stay. If you want a secluded quiet place to stay on the Hilo side of the Big Island this place is for you. It's about 25 minutes from Hilo at the end of a half mile smooth dirt road (easy to navigate with a 2 wheel drive car) This place is perfect for one or two with everything you need to be comfortable. We stayed for over two weeks and never felt that we lacked for anything. The town of Pahoa is a few miles away and is a great funky place to visit and eat. Do your food shopping at the supermarket in Keaau. It's the best one nearby although you can go to Longs drugs in Pahoa and pick up the basics. If you are a very light sleeper the tree frogs peep at night and the occasional rooster crows at random but hey! It's the jungle! We loved it!

Comments: We loved staying at the Jungle Hut! It was very secluded and peaceful. You could hear the birds during the day and tree frogs at night. You could also see a lot of stars since the neighborhood is in a rain forest. Liz was very responsive in answering our phone calls and made the whole process very easy. The house was clean and we got chocolates and wine upon arrival, which was a great house warming gift.

Comments: We had a great stay at the Jungle Hut! Liz was very communicative and provided a lot of information and suggestions about what to do in the area. Chocolates and wine were a nice touch on arrival. The hut is a little off the beaten bath, but convenient to get to Hilo (~20 minutes if I recall correctly) and Volcanoes national park (~45 minutes I think). Lots of cookware and utensils, but if you plan on preparing meals you'll need the little ingredients (oil, condiments, etc.). Definitely on the rainy side of the island, and it feels kind of damp inside - my girlfriend found this a little unpleasant but I didn't really notice. Bring earplugs if you want to sleep in - you're in the forest, lots of early morning birds!

Comments: The vacation rental is conveniently located if you plan to spend more time on volcanoes national park and warm pools. It is located at the east side of the island so it takes 2 hours to go to the west side of the island. We prefer the more tranquil east region of the Big Island so this vacation rental is just right for us. The house is very clean, you can even walk around with bare feet. The owner has even prepared a bottle of red wine and 3 gallons of water for us. The mattress is comfortable and sufficient for 2. If there is one thing I wish the owner can improve on is to install non-transparent curtain so the people won't be able to see through from the outside at night. Overall, we highly recommend Hawaiian Jungle Hut to everyone.

Comments: Liz was a great host and provided a lot of local information and she responded to all my questions promptly. The jungle hut is such a great place to stay! It is very spacious and has everything you need, even snorkeling gear. It is in a good location - close to shops and store and tidal ponds and beaches. It is also very private, so you wont hear traffic noise at all. The rain can however get loud over the bedroom. There is an additional rental agreement to sign and the door code is sent the day of check in. In my case, this was a bit stresfull because I was already on vacation and only had an international phone, but everything worked out in the end. I would certainly recommend this place to anyone!

Liz was very meticulous with providing us with all the local information. Her suggestions were apt for the duration of our stay. Liz was just a phone call away and responded promptly. Hawaiian Jungle Hut is true to its name, it is located in the rain forest of Big Island, you sleep to the sound of elements and rise to the chirping of birds :). Very nice and peaceful place to layback and relax. We were welcomed with a bottle of red wine and hawaiian made chocolates. The house is beautifully decorated, very clean and equipped with everything that you need. We had fun staying at Hawaiian Jungle Hut! Thank you for having us Liz. Comments: The "Hawaiian Jungle Hut" is the smaller part of a house that lies at the very end of a street in the "Hawaiian Paradise Park". Upon booking, Liz supplied us with a wall of text containing a lot of information about nearby places and recommendations. On arrival, we didn't meet Liz nor the neighbours who were taking care of the property, but were welcomed by three cute, yet shy little green lizards and a house-warming gift. The inside of the Hut was very spacious, nice, comfortable, clean and looked amazing. Be sure to explore the garden, which contains some interesting plants and fruits. There are also some places of solid lava. In the day, there are small neon-green lizards sticking to every wall of the house. They are shy but will try to slip inside. At night you will hear a myriad of frogs, which are pretty loud, yet didn't disturb our sleep at all.

Comments: We had a great experience staying at the Jungle Hut. It is in the middle of the rainforest so we were surrounded by trees, flowers, and animals which we loved. We liked its location as it is in between Hilo and Pahoa and easy to go to all the areas we want to explore on the east side of the island. Liz is a great host who provided us itinerary prior to our arrival. It includes a lot of local activities and restaurant recommendations. We definitely refered to her itinerary throughout our trip. Comments: The jungle hut was really cool. You feel you are in the middle of nowhere and you'll hear all sorts of animals, birds and other "things". The mosquitos weren't even that bad even though it rained quite a bit. The location will get you to any place on the island between 1-2 hours. If you have limited time to explore the entire island (2-3 days) I would recommend picking more spots to overnight to optimize travel time. But if you have a week, this was a great spot! And you have an home all to yourself with everything in it.

Comments: I made a silly mistake and booked this rental for the wrong dates - I planned to travel in Feb, not Jan, and I was ignorant of the fact that I made such a mistake. Liz, however, tried her best to reach me and make sure that I was okay. She really went out of her way to do so, and I appreciated that. She was also very understanding after I explained the situation. I was hoping to still stay with Liz during my real travel date but unfortunately Jungle Hut was booked for Feb. Comments: Liz is one of the best hosts I have had the chance to interact with and the listing is a gem on the Hilo side of Big Island. The hut is perfectly located and gives you great access to all points of interest in east part of the island. Just to abide by review guidelines let me begin by saying that the listing description is very accurate and no surprises on check-in. Liz provided us with the access code and also clearly pointed out the parking space that would be most convenient for us (in terms of loading/unloading and access to entry :)). We were welcomed by a bottle of wine and a box of chocolates that were a treat after the long flight ;). The decor and the collection of artifacts inside the hut is very impressive. The kitchen was fully equipped and she had provided us with more than enough linen and beach towels that we would need for our 10 day stay. As others have already mentioned, Liz did take time to prepare a custom itinerary based on our interests with tips that only a local would know. Given we had limited cellular reception (hey you are in a vacation who needs to be always connected :)), the fast wi-fi at home was very helpful to plan some parts of the itinerary. Overall we had a lovely experience. Thank you Liz! :)

Liz gave us great directions to the hut, as well as suggestions for a daily itinerary, all of which were extremely useful during our stay on the Hilo side of the Big Island. Comments: PRO: calm & nice neighbourhood, very good price quality ratio, quick and responsive host who will provide you with a lot of tips in the area and already on your drive towards the jungle hut. CON: coqui frogs can be really loud in the evening (I was glad that I'm not too sensitive to that), the hut has a bit of a damp smell but don't get me wrong this comment and as well the one about the coqui frogs is not meant as negative criticism against the host. it's more the area on the east coast of big island which is very rain foresty and wet.

Comments: The Jungle Hut is a super cool home - beautiful, exotic, rich decorations in a home deep in the 'jungle' just shy of Pahoa on the Hilo side. I have stayed here before - previously with my mom - and loved it so much I knew I wanted to come back. This time I brought my husband, who before our stay was even half over said he was going to be sad to be leaving our Jungle Hut. Coqui frogs to sing you to sleep, friendly geckos nearby to eat any pesky mosquitos, and when the sun goes down it's like being in a deserted jungle. So peaceful! Liz has everything you need here, from the covered parking to the cozy bed in the nook, to the kitchenette with full fridge and tiki bar table, private bathroom with tub and shower, all the amenities like soap and shampoo, and very thoughtful 'welcome' gifts to kick your stay off right and set the right mood for relaxation! (You'll love it!) The fan is helpful when it gets a bit muggy, and if needed there's an A/C unit, too. You'll want to explore the Hilo side from here - easy, equal distance to Hilo and Volcano, and nearby Pahoa has quick shopping and a few restaurants, as does not-so-far-Keeau. (And Liz is great at giving a list of suggestions on what to see or do and where to find the locals' spots!) But as much as you want to explore the island, be sure to save time to just hunker down in the Jungle Hut and relax and enjoy the serenity! I'd love to say this is a horrible place so no one goes and I can have it all to myself anytime I manage to get back to the Big Island...I'd love to come back again soon!

We loved the local black sand beach -I don't think I will ever forget the wild dolphins swimming and playing in the water next to us. Comments: I came to the Hilo side of the island specifically to spend some time away from the noise and commercialism of daily life. I got just what I wanted. The house is on a very quiet piece of land where your company is the sound of rain, frogs and the occasional gecko. Oh and the chickens outside. Now understand that this house is a rain forest experience, and a rain forest tends to be active at night. You will not find dead silence at this location. If however you enjoy the sounds of nature then the frogs and rain on the roof will be a peaceful lullaby to rock you to sleep. The decor lends itself to the peacefulness of the place, my favorite was the little sitting area by the stairs where if you look closely there is a strip of LED lights you can plug in to add to the ambience. I would definitely stay here again! Some tips: - Rent a vehicle that can handle some mud, the last section of road and the driveway can get pretty wet and muddy. - Remember that Hilo is very wet, every building I went in had a slight wet smell. It wasn't bad in this place but it is to be expected. - The internet connection was good enough for me to perform work remotely on the mainland and while AT&T showed 1 bar on my phone it worked just well enough to text. Not so much for voice.

Comments: This place is the best thing I have found in Big Island! The interior reflects a combination of Western and Asian cultures, making a very unique atmosphere. Being an Asian myself, I felt really at home here and exotic at the same time. The house is surrounded by small and big trees and you can see birds singing every morning. The designated parking lot is a huge plus. You don't need to worry about break-ins or theft. Also, the well-established kitchen with a fridge, plates, and a gas stove lets you cook anything you want. Also, the location is really great. During the stay at Hawaiian Jungle Hut, I went to Mauna Kea Observatory, National Volcano Park, Kapoho Tide Pools, Ahalanui Park, and many more exciting places very easily. I really enjoyed star gazing at Mauna Kea. All in all, I strongly recommend this place to my friends. Thanks Liz!

Comments: The jungle hut was great! Literally in a jungle, we had a rental car so the road to the hut was a bit rough but totally worth it. Everything inside was as-advertised and Liz was easy to get ahold of and very responsive. Comments: Liz was really nice and provided great local tips, which we found really useful. Liz also provided a detailed itinerary based on the days we were staying, which was really a very sweet and personalised touch. Liz also provided very detailed directions to the address, and provided check-in instructions before the trip so that we had no problems with check-in despite not having data/wifi when we landed. The location is approximately 25 minutes from Hilo, and 2 hours from Kona. However, there were heaps and heaps of mosquitoes in the house despite the windows and doors being closed. We also spotted a cockroach on the ceiling, and lizards behind the ornaments on the wall. However, note that this is located in the middle of a rainforest environment and hence some insects are to be expected. However, there was a dead lizard under the AC. The house was a little too dim and smelt slightly musty. However, Liz's place is very well equipped with utensils and it felt like staying at a friend's place which was great.

Comments: Liz went above and beyond to help us plan our stay with ideas of places to visit and things to do and tips about local events. Her place was exactly as described. Communication was excellent. Would visit her place again.

Comments: Great place for spending time in nature, listening to the sounds of the tropical forest, waking up to the melodies of roosters and having breakfast with lychee's collected from your own backyard. Liz is a helpful host and attended to our requests in a timely manner. Only drawback was a strong mildew odor in the entire place.

Comments: Liz is a fantastic host with a great home in the rainforest. It was awesome listening to the tree frogs and rain at night. She also was super helpful with suggestions of things to do on the island and made a clear effort to make our stay enjoyable. Just double check to make sure that AC or air cooling is available because the high heat and humidity are brutal.

Comments: Funky place with a jungle feel. Pretty centrally located between Hilo and Pahoa but nothing in walking distance. Great place if you have a car though!
