Neighborhood Overview: My place is in the middle of Besiktas-Nisantasi and Taksim. Besiktas is the leading culture, art and education capital and district of Istanbul as well as one of the most valuable regions of Istanbul with its Ortakoy, Arnavutkoy, Kurucesme and Bebek neighborhoods located by the Bosphorus. Nisantasi, Istanbul’s equivalent to London’s Chelsea or New York’s Upper East Side, used to be dominated by strawberry orchards in the 18th century. It was here that the sultan’s soldiers used to train their target, hence its name – Nisantasi means “target stone “ .Taksim Square is the center of Istanbul today, and Beyoglu has a very nice pedestrian street. Besiktas is the best place to observe the lively Istanbul city life. It is also the popular meeting point as well as the most important junction for sea transportation.
