Our retreat is perfect for those wanting to unwind and enjoy the Hawaiian tropics. The spectacular views from the bedroom, lanai, kitchen and dining area will delight you as you relax steps away from the tiled pool. Venture in for a dip, lounge on the in-pool floaties, bask under the sun on comfy lounge chairs. Escape to the umbrellas when you've had enough sun. Our lush grounds offer tropical plantings of ti, hibuscus, bamboo, helconia, ohia, ferns, orchids, a variety of palms, and seasonally flowering lilikoi, night blooming jasmine, plumeria, gardenia and more for you to enjoy. Neighborhood Overview: Great Area!! In this delightful neighborhood, people stroll in the morning and evening, some toting along pets and strollers. It is a very safe, clean peaceful place. A 5 minute walk finds you at a lovely black sand beach, known to be frequented by dolphins in the morning. Minutes down the road is Uncle Roberts Kawa Bar, a Puna attraction and highlight in the guide books. They have a fab farmers market Wed evenings and Sat mornings.

Notes: This is an outdoorsy tropical place, nature and wildlife are all around - we have sightings of hawks, owls, cardinals, golden finches, morning doves etc. We also have symphony of geckos and frogs, which we find quite delightful. We are equipped with mosquito nets, but they are seldom used. If you are sensitive, we offer mosquito repellant and citronella candles. But our breezes usually keep the air pretty comfortable. The state of Hawaii does not let Airbnb collect taxes, and since we operate more like a hotel, we collect taxes upon arrival just like a hotel does. It is Hawaii State VAT and GE taxes of 14.5% via credit card or cash.

Transit: You will want to rent a car or other vehicle. We are about 45 minutes to an hour from Hilo, 20 minutes from Pahoa, and while there is bus service, it is infrequent. It is a lovely drive along the Kalapana coast. We are very close to the recent lava eruption, that has stopped. Our air is of amazing quality once again and new growth is all around. You can venture to see the newest land on Earth just minutes away. It’s pretty spectacular!

Access: You enter in through our front gate, gazing at the koi pond as you wander over to your section of the property. As you can see from the pictures, the layout is separate buildings comprising a fully functional home. We have an in ground pool, that is shared with the owners (we won't go swimming while you are here, but may swim while you are out.) We have utilized plant barriers to increase privacy. There is an expansive lawn area and the hot tub is only steps from the pool and second outdoor shower. We are happy to assist you in any way and make your stay more memorable. We can give you referrals for great activities to do in the area. Guide books and local information are on site. With advance notice, we can arrange a massage on premises, or an acupuncture treatment. Let us know if you have special requests.

Interaction: We live on the property so we are here to promptly help you with any questions or concerns. However, its YOUR vacation, and should be as you wish. Let us know if there is anything you need, we will help make it happen.

House Rules: ~Pools and glass don't mix! So, No glass allowed in the pool or hot tub areas. ~Please honor Hawaiian style - no shoes in-doors. ~Please keep kitchen clean so critters are not summoned inside. ~Smoking outdoors only, provided it does not drift indoors to either house. ~Please shower before using the hot tub or pool. ~Please quiet after 10. ~Cover the hot tub after use. ~To reduce our carbon footprint, turn lights and fan off when not in use especially when you leave. ~Our place is super special to us, and we do read Airbnb reviews.
