Neighborhood Overview:

Notes: Our steam radiator pipes can be noisy at night, including some banging and hissing. Usual amount for a building from 1905 but can be surprising if you are not used to or expecting it!

Transit: The 125th Street subway stop on the 1 train (red line) is just a block away from our apartment. From there it is only 11 stops down to Times Square, about 20-25 minutes. It is safe to use any time of day, though at night or in nasty weather I love using Via, a ride share car service. I can send you a link to the app and a free first ride!

Access: Our shared spaces include the kitchen, living room, and bathroom! There is designated shelf space in the kitchen cabinets and fridge for you to use, as well as a plethora of cooking gadgets at your disposal! There is also laundry in the basement and laundry card provided.

Interaction: I am always available to answer questions through AirBnB, text, or call. My co-host Ellen is also around to help you with anything you might need. We love to hang out and chat, though are often out of the apartment working!

Comments: Erika was a super attentive host and very considerate. I had to check out a day early and she was very accommodating and always responded quickly to any communication. The appartment was nice furnished and clean. Public spaces were very clean had all the normal amenities you'd want. 10/10 would buy again.

Comments: This is a great option for those of you who are traveling alone or a couple. The room is clean, cosy and super cute. The area is also very nice, you have everything you need in a walking distance (restaurants, supermarket etc...) and a subway just around the corner to get wherever you want in the city. This was exactly what i needed and i would definitely recommend it to others. Thank you guys you have a lovely home:)

Comments: Chris&Erika's apartment is located near the 125 streer subway station. If you go to downtown, you can take line 1,just a couple minutes (Website hidden by Airbnb) thing I think has to be informed before booking is that when the warmer is open, the pipes is noisy, especially in midnight, but it doesn't matter, because almost all the old apartments in NYC have this problem,or maybe it could not be considered as a problem.Above all,Chris and Erika are so nice and friendly. And absolutely,I love this place.

Comments: Erika's place was clean, quiet and in a location that was convenient and safe. It was a good value for NYC!

Comments: The apartment is located in upper Manhattan and it takes only 3- minutes walk to the subway. It is a very convenient place! Erika is really nice and considerate.

Comments: We loved to stay at Erika's apartment. Eventhough the metro station (line 1 to downtown) and some nice restaurants are right around the corner, the apartment is absolutely quite located in a beautiful house. Because it was Christmas, nobody was at home, so we had the huge apartment with our room mostly for our own. Both, Erika and her co-host Chris welcomed us sooo warmly and sweet, it was a real pleasure to meet them! And we've never stayed in such a clean apartment, that was really outrageous. absolutely recommend to stay there :-)

Comments: We had to cancel our trip to NYC due to winter storm Grayson the night before, but Erika was gracious enough to accommodate to our change in travel plans. Communication was prompt and transparent; I certainly hope to check out Erika's place when the next chance to visit NYC arises!

  • Reviewer: Robert

Comments: We have nothing but good things to say about our stay at Erika's! Erika has managed to recreate the coziness of a bed-and-breakfast six stories into the Manhattan sky. Our accommodations could not have been more pleasant. Our room was tucked in the very back, behind the kitchen, and it usually felt like we had the place to ourselves! Oh, and there is a really cool fire escape right outside the room! In addition to all of the above, Erika's place is conveniently located right around the corner from the 1 line, which enabled easy access to the rest of the borough, perfect for ensuring the ultimate Manhattan vacation. We would not hesitate to stay here again. ~Robert & Damian

Comments: Erika est disponible, l'appartement est très sympa. La chambre est parfaite pour un séjour. Seul bémol indépendant d'Erika, le chauffage à la New Yorkaise. Je recommande ce logement pour un séjour de quelques jours.

Comments: Great location, room, hosts, and stay! We were visiting a friend who attends the Manhattan School of Music and it was only a 3 min walk from the airbnb to the school! Additionally, the subway stop is SO close! We would definitely stay again :)

Comments: Great place, I unfortunately didn't get to meet Erika but Chris was super nice. The room is exactly as it looks, very spacious and roomy with tonnes of storage for your clothes. The location is great, and it is quiet at night despite being close to the train. Great stay, highly recommend! Thanks for everything!

Comments: This was a really good AirBNB experience. For New York, the room felt pretty large and it made for a great place to chill in the downtime during my visit. As for location, you can’t beat it if you are trying to go to Columbia University (I walked to and from the university each day of my visit no problem). For everything else, you are right next to the main subway line that brings you most places you’ll visit in NYC. The only drawback? I am used to having a heater that makes noises, but for this one it was like someone was banging a hammer on a metal pipe two feet away from me! It did wake me up in the middle of the night (and I’m not a light sleeper) Everything else was awesome. Erika is a great host, the room is great and the apartment is in a great location, the only consideration is the heater may disrupt sleep. Overall, I recommend

Comments: Erika's place was great. The location is close to Columbia University Campus. The subway is one block away and an easy ride to Times Square. The room was very clean and the beds were very comfortable. It was quiet and felt very safe. We were gone all day every day - but even so we never even saw any of the other dwellers and never had to wait for the bathroom. Erika was available whenever I needed her.

Comments: Great value for money at Erika’s place. Amazing eateries nearby would definitely stay here again when in NY. The place is clean and comfortable and very close to the Subway. Definitely felt safe here, thanks again!

  • Reviewer: Lori

Comments: A gracious smile from our host Erika, with welcoming touches and offers to help with anything we needed during her busy work schedule, superb location, great functioning kitchen, a clean comfortable bed, a suitcase stand, good simple air conditioning, and ample space to move around, topped with the use of a luggage scale, gives Erika 5 outstanding stars and 2 thumbs up. Also the elevator was invaluable as compared to walking four flights up in other airbnbs I've stayed in near Columbia University. This would be my first choice and I would book again. I'm a seasoned international traveler and can recognize kind and excellent hospitality in a second. This is it.

Comments: We stayed with Erika in March and were so comfortable, decided to stay again. The location and easy access to subway, restaurants, etc. helps make our visit to a busy city more relaxed. Erika is a lovely host and we highly recommend her place!

  • Reviewer: Rita (Go By Tona)

Comments: The room is spacious enough for two people (I stayed with my mom), and it’s nicely decorated. Transportation was super easy; I’d recommend taking the bus early morning or late at night, otherwise, there’s lots of traffic. The line 1 (train/subway) is only a couple blocks away, which takes you pretty much anywhere in a short time (15-20 min). Also, there’s a park by the Hudson River also couple blocks away. We really liked staying here as it gave us a better sense of the regular daily lives of residents rather than just seeing the craziness of NYC. Erika was super kind and easy to reach via text. The only minor “complaint” is that the room is facing the street and it can get pretty loud, having us wake up in the middle of the night. I stayed with my mom, so we were home by midnight, but if you are out and about later than that, maybe the noise from outside won’t be an issue. Thank you Erika!

  • Reviewer: Gretchen

Comments: I loved staying here. Quiet. Clean. Safe. Erica is a great host. The room is realy cute and comfortable. I felt at home and very relaxed during my visit. I would stay here again in a heartbeat.

Comments: Everything was great at Erika's place. My plane was delayed and I arrived at 3am but she found a way to let me in. Erika is very friendly and helpful. The room is very cozy and the flat is perfectly located in a great neighborhood. I would totally recommend it!

  • Reviewer: Timmy

Comments: Erika is very nice and the room is super! The mini lights bordering the window are a nice touch. The apartment is a hundred years old but it all works. The toaster toasts a perfect bagel. Thanks Erika, I’m sure others will enjoy a stay in your place as we did!

  • Reviewer: Sandy

Comments: The room looked exactly like the pictures and was bigger than what was shown. It was very comfortable and private. In the hot and humid New York summer, the air conditioning was a life saver. The room had easy access to the kitchen and the building elevator was quick and efficient. What was also great is how close the subway was. Erika was very responsive and made sure check in was smooth and I had everything I needed.

  • Reviewer: Michelle

Comments: Erika’s place is great! Location is close to the metro, room is comfortable with aircon, she responds right away for any question/request. Would love to stay again if I’ll go back to NY and definitely will recommend to my friends and family!

Comments: Erika’s place is FANTASTIC! The room is super clean and superbly and thoughtfully decorated. Bathroom is very clean as well! We arrived at around 11:30pm and Erika still waited for us to complete the check in process and showed us around. Erika is a wonderful host, and I thoroughly recommend her place to anyone who visits NYC!

  • Reviewer: Yohana

Comments: Erika’s place was great! The room looks exactly like the picture and comes with ample amount of storage space for your items. Erika’s check-in involves a tour of the spaces and the kitchen amenities which was very helpful. Location is close to everything you could need and/or a subway that can take you there. Erika was very friendly and helpful & check-in & out was quick and easy! Would love to come back!

  • Reviewer: Chantele

Comments: A comfy bed, friendly housemates, and somwhere close to transport and other amenities. Some issues with cooling despite aircon- nobody’s fault, it is just the top floor of an old building and traps heat. Not ideal if you are sensitive to heat though. It was cool to see how New Yorkers live, rather than staying in a hotel.

  • Reviewer: Erin

Comments: Beautiful room and great location! The bed was very comfortable and the decor was nice and homey. Air conditioning is available and worked great! It’s a great room at a great rate!

Comments: We were super content with our stay at Erika's place. The communication with her was great, she reliably replied all messages quickly and friendly. The room and the apartment were very sweet, comfortable and clean and there was everything one needs. The apartment is very well located, one minute from the subway with two subway lines that bring you directly to the main places in Manhattan. We would stay at Erika's place again and can highly recommend it. Thank you very much for everything!

Comments: Erika's place is a great find and an almost unbeatable value for its price. You're close to the 125th street subway station, which is important because you'll have to use it a lot if you want to discover anything else than Harlem or the Columbia University area. It takes about 30 - 40 minutes to get to the city center. The place itself was as described: a room that accommodates two with nothing of note. It was airconditioned, roomy and quiet at night... so perfectly adequate! Don't expect too much from the common areas though, it's an older building with its blemishes and a private room in a shared appartement. We didn't get to meet Erika in person, but we got a very hospitable welcome from her roommate Ellen. In fact, her roommates were a real added value because they weren't only super welcoming, they also were our window into the twenty-something lifestyle in this wonderful city. In conclusion: this place is as authentic as they come and I would definitely recommend Erika's place if you're looking for an affordable place to stay.

Comments: I loved staying at Erika’s place, it was such a good deal for a large room that is very close to the subway station. I didn’t even feel like I was sharing a space really, and I had everything I needed ready for me so I didn’t need any additional contact with Erika. Erika was also very helpful as she asked when I would be arriving and offered to let me keep my bags in her apartment well before check-in, that was so helpful. I definitely recommend this place!

  • Reviewer: Ana

Comments: Erika's room was very clean and super comfy. It's an antique building yet nice and tidy, makes it a unique experience. Although I didn't get to meet her, she was very attentive through messages, she gave me an my cousin fresh towels and bed linens.

Comments: Cozy and quiet space. Loved the 1920’s vintage building. Location was close to subway, bus, and coffee. We especially appreciated the deli down the street (Bahamas) that made delicious food on a budget. Thanks Erika!

Comments: Erika's place was just what we needed for a comfortable bed and hot shower during our stay in New York. The neighborhood was relatively quiet and the subway was conveniently around the corner. The bedroom was clean and beautifully decorated. We never met Erika, but chatted with her roommates a couple of times, and Erika checked in with us to make sure everything was okay, and she responded to our questions instantly. The check-in was a breeze thanks to her clear instructions. In addition, Erika was very accommodating and understanding when I messed up our date of departure. She agreed to let us stay an additional, unplanned night since we were leaving at 3 am and she was still able to clean in time for the next guests. Highly recommend! Thank you, Erika!

Comments: My stay with Erika and Ellen was perfect. Communication and check in procedures were great. The apartment is close to the subway and there are a lot of food options nearby. The room was exactly as pictured, beautifully decorated and clean. I didn’t meet Erika in person but she was made check in a breeze and was quick to respond. Ellen was kind and gracious when we chatted for a bit at the apartment. I would definitely stay here again.

Comments: Nice turn of the century building and elevator. Street a little noisy late, but it was a Saturday night in the big city. LOL Great building security. Nice location for visit to Grants tomb & Riverside Park area. Huge room, nice roommate. Very comfortable bed and linens. Great Breakfast place off Amsterdam looking forward to staying again.

Comments: Erika and her roommate were very nice and helpful. The room is just as advertised and in a perfect location for visiting Columbia U as well as on the subway line. The only thing that surprised me was the noise from the heater when it came on - got used to it but I didn’t know ahead of time so took a minute to figure it out. Great value for staying in NYC.

Comments: My girlfriend and I LOVED our stay at Erika’s apartment. We were able to meet her when checking in, had a nice conversation, and got a tour. The apartment is exactly as photographed and a lovely home away from home. The layout is perfect for those wanting some peace, quiet, and privacy as well because the room is away from all other rooms only bordering the kitchen. The building is perfect and token “old New York” having been built in the early 1900’s (I believe). We were very comfortable and provided all fresh linens, towels, wash clothes, and shampoo and soap. Her apartment is very clean and I love the personalized touches. Thank you for a great experience and we’d love to return!

Comments: Erika’s place worked out perfectly for visiting my son who is going to the Manhattan School of Music which is on the same street and a very short walk away. Check-in was clear and easy. I didn’t meet Erika, but she was very attentive through emails. I would definitely stay at her place again. it was my first time just staying in a room on Airbnb rather than having the whole place and I couldn’t have been more pleased.

Comments: This is such a nice room! Big, lots of light, clean! Theres a Subway right around the conor, and the a lot of small local shops. We came quite late to check in, but that was not a problem. The people who lives there keeps to them self.

Comments: Erika's place is in a charming older building. The bedroom itself is nicely decorated, with a bathroom down the hall, and lots of thoughtful touches in the amenities. The only issue to be aware of is that the radiator in the bedroom is quite noisy at night; it woke us several times with banging noises.

Comments: Nice place to stay specially if you need to attend some part of Morningside campus at the Columbia University, it is pretty close (3 blocks away).
