Summary: Once a massage parlor, this has now been converted to a apartment nestled in Makiki. A fifteen minute walk puts you in Waikiki without the Waikiki prices. Need shopping, there's a Walmart just 5 minutes from here. Ala Moana Mall is just down from Walmart.

Space: This is a spot on review by one of our guests: "This is a no-frill hostel type situation. You get exactly what’s described and what you paid for. You get a small private room in a large apartment-like layout. The bed is very comfortable and fits two easily. There’s a night stand and a lamp, as well as a rack to hang up your clothes and a mirror on the wall. All the above takes up the entire room. There is hardly any more space. When you check in, the linens are changed and you get fresh towels. They can do with a new set of each to be honest. There are two shared bathrooms, one for men and another for women. It was mostly kept clean for the entire week we stayed there. There’s a kitchen with a table and stove where you can cook some basic meals. There’s a free washer/dryer which were a perfect addition. There are about 8 rooms all in all. The walls are paper thin and it can be a little noisy, and there’s a lingering odor in the place from being old. The location is the best you’ll find

Comments: Katherine was a very good host and ALWAYS helpful. The room was clean and the location absolutely perfect. I would rent this place again :)

  • Reviewer: Jasmine

Comments: It was a nice place to lay my head and save a little to spend elsewhere. The discription was pretty spot on and Rick and Katherine were very accommodating.

  • Reviewer: Marshall

Comments: Interesting fun location with a lot of urban culture. Close to downtown so be ready for that experience. Little karaoke bar next door is fun and nice people. The other guests in the building are definitely characters. Place is very clean and I imagine staying here is as close as you can get to a international city vibe. Real people doing real life.

Comments: I arrived late, so the late check in wasn't a problem, that was great! But in the night we had a problem with a drunken man inside and that makes me afraid of. We had to call the police, after that it was very quiet there. Maybe it was a "creepy and rarely" night for everyone in the house. It's close by the Walmart and the roommates were nice as well.

  • Reviewer: David

Comments: Loved staying here. Katherine and Rick are outstanding hosts, operating a comfortable and safe location in the heart of Honolulu. Would highly recommend. Thanks for the great time, guys! See you again.

  • Reviewer: Russell

Comments: Very accurate listing , no frills place to rest your head , no window so hard to judge time without looking at your clock

  • Reviewer: Jacklyn

Comments: My room was quiet and I had access to a washer and dryer, kitchen, shower with good water pressure and WiFi! Mattress was comfy, too. Rick showed me around once I arrived and helped me understand the room in relation to surrounding features. Waikiki is a short walk and even shorter drive and parking was never an issue for me. Be sure to grab some shave ice from Joycup on your way to Waikiki or just because--- Rick and Katherine put out tasty frozen treats!

  • Reviewer: Juyoung

Comments: Good place room in value price.

  • Reviewer: Aaron

Comments: Loved how you had your own private room with kitchen availability and the air conditioning was phenomenal. They were also very accommodating with my late flight and arriving late! Finally I received great directions! Would strongly suggest!

  • Reviewer: Kaitlyn

Comments: This place is in a good location, close to lots of shopping and downtown Waikiki was a quick trip! It's perfect if you just need a place to sleep and will be away for most of the day. The hosts were very flexible and easy to contact when we had questions. Thanks!

  • Reviewer: Kurtis

Comments: I stayed 2 nights in Katherine and Rick's clean, comfortable, secure, and affordable room in a suite of a mixed-use 4-story building. The location is conveniently within walking distance to major sites/activities in Honolulu and Waikiki and it was just beyond the major tourist area which made for quiet sleeping. The hosts are friendly and communicated well; Rick met me at my arrival to orient me with the property and neighborhood. They also run Joy Cup shaved ice and bike rental shop a couple blocks away which I would recommend. Overall, the room was a great value and I would stay there again. Definitely recommend.

Comments: Basic accommodation. Nothing fancy, nothing terrible

  • Reviewer: Matthew

Comments: Simple place and good for to crash for the night. Walking distance to ala moana shopping centre

  • Reviewer: Daniel

Comments: The place is like in the ad. You got everything you need for a few days on Oahu. Public transport just around the corner. People very nice and helpful. No problem with early check in or to store my baggage for a few hours, due to my late flight. Great to stay there.

  • Reviewer: George

Comments: Katherine’s place is exceptional and a great location. Close to everything - food, shopping & activities. My preferred place to stay when in town.

  • Reviewer: Averi

Comments: Comfy bed. Close to public transport. Food and shops are nearby within walking distance

  • Reviewer: Yuta

Comments: I was pretty satisfied with staying this parlor like hostel. Bet was comfy, bus stop(and Biki station) was near, and our friend Jerry was amazingly kind!:) I can't say this was a luxury stay, but I would come again to enjoy Hawaii at most affordable price in Waikiki!

  • Reviewer: Federica

Comments: I really enjoyed my stay at Katherine’s place, the room is a great value for money, if you need a place to sleep and put your things it’s perfect. The location is great, very close to a public transport hub with buses that take you everywhere, I haven’t been to Waikiki much but you can walk there too. Communication was good and Jerry, the guy who takes care of the apartment is a very nice person.

  • Reviewer: George

Comments: Easy check in, check out process. Always a pleasure to stay here!

  • Reviewer: Mieko

  • Reviewer: Yasser

Comments: The location was great! Walkable! Close to everything! Bus 2 takes u to whatever u want! Bus 9 takes u to airport. Quit place. Everything was really amazing! In addition, the area was really safe during night. I was able to walk around after 10 pm or 12 am without getting in a trouble. My trip was for business, I was outside almost the whole day. I only came to sleep. Room was perfect to me. Bathroom was shared however I was able to enter it every time without waiting the other people, so I did not have any problems with that at all. Finally, I would like to thank Jerry for not sleeping and waiting me for checking in (12 am).

  • Reviewer: Charles

Comments: Very basic, but good for a quick night's stay. Cheap and well situated. This place is especially good if you're arriving late from the airport as they accommodate late check-in.

  • Reviewer: Harry

Comments: This place is tiny. The room, toilet and sink, and shower are all in separate rooms. The "shower" is basically a hose and everything in there was rusty. Very dirty. Smelled of incense and cigarettes.

Comments: There were a few issues that led to me leaving the Airbnb early, some issues I had, such as noise was immediately taken care of when communicated with the host. However I found the reviews on the listing to be inaccurate. There are two long term male residents that live within this apartment listing. I would not recommend this listing for hypervigilant travelers/single women as there were no locks on the bathroom, nor shower doors. The doors on these two are sliding doors which made me uncomfortable that anyone could have entered at any time while I was inside. The bathroom and shower are separated by a frosted window, which I could see the outline of the person's body in the bathroom while I was in the shower. There is a reason why the bathroom and shower photos are unlisted, please be aware of this before booking this option.

  • Reviewer: Vikki

Comments: I would definitely stay here again. It was very convenient and for the price it was exactly what I needed. I was satisfied with the amount of privacy that I had on the house which is why I would recommend and book again.

  • Reviewer: Dawn

Comments: Basic bedroom clean, no tv,no door on shower ,bathroom does not lock safe and convenient. Host responsive and friendly.

  • Reviewer: Kristy

Comments: I agree with the review from Jennifer below. And unfortunately, that review got posted only a couple days prior to my arrival. Because of my personal work and travel and visiting circumstances, I decided it was too difficult for me to try to find a new place and I stayed for the duration of my planned visit (6nights). I find many of these reviews and the description of this posting to be inaccurate. However, the 3 hosts (2 males and Katherine) running this place were kind and responsive. I personally also manage short-term and long-term sublets and vacation rentals and an inaccurate listing to book more guests is, as nicely as I can say it - not cool. There were some good things here and I did stick out my stay. See below for details. --This is set-up like a hostel. 4 rooms total - 2 male residents and 1 other Airbnb room. (When booking on the Airbnb App it does not say "hostel"! This is an App issue) --This is NOT an apartment (as is described), nor is this an apartment complex (my assumption). There are many apartment complexes in this area and so I was fooled. And with real estate booming in Honolulu, it seemed reasonable for a commercial building to be transformed. This was NOT transformed. --This is an office/commercial lease. Within an office/commercial building. --This space is not and was not intended for living. --The kitchen is really a kitchenette (per reasons listed above). --The kitchen was dirty and smelled mildewy. When I asked for the kitchen to be cleaned they did, very kindly, do their best. But because this space was not meant for living, it was difficult. And new dish rags / drying towels were needed. --(per reasons listed above) There are no windows in the room or space. This was hard for me. --Even though the room is listed as non-smoking, the shared space smelled like smoke (smoking occurred in the space). The room itself did not smell and was fine. --The parking lot is NOT $6! This is intentionally inaccurate. The parking guard told me that by mid-April the lot would be 'automated' pay, which will increase the hourly rate. There will not be a guard in this lot (who currently only works daytime). Currently the $6 refers to business hours (9am-5/6pm) on business days when the guard is working. After that and on weekends and holidays, the cost is pre-pay $1/hour/cash, paid into a drop-box. Again, this cost will be increasing. Makes sense since this is for a commercial parking lot and is not residential. You'll have to be comfortable playing the parking game, finding street parking and moving your car around. I did OK, but I wish this was more honestly stated. Fixes/improvements since past reviews: --The translucent glass on the bathroom and shower doors got painted. Thank you. --Locks were placed on the doors. --The shower got cleaned. The good: --The room itself was accurate. Decent. Cleaned. --The toilet...

Comments: The price / quality value is great. Enjoyed staying in Katherina place, you have everything you need, clean and Jerry was very helpful. No problem with early check-in and late check-out.

  • Reviewer: Kevin

Comments: I can confirm what other reviews are stating, such as a lacking window and missing pics of kitchen/bathroom. However, from looking at the listing and its reviews, guests should know what to expect. This is a well-priced, functional Airbnb in a central location plus multiple bus stops nearby.

  • Reviewer: Lilia

Comments: Very nice host. They reply very fast to my questions. Place close to many attractions and the bus nb 2 stops just behind the house. The nb 2bus brings you to waikiki. Center etc. Very good bus...

Comments: I stayed in both this room as well as another room that Katherine has posted during a separate stay (a room in the same building, but in a different apartment upstairs). Both times were pleasant! The rooms are not fancy, but they are comfortable. If all you need is a place to sleep, then this place offers a great value. Even though the bathrooms are shared, I rarely had to wait to use them. The other shared spaces (kitchen, etc.) are on the older side, but they still have the basic conveniences, including washer/dryer if you bring your own detergent. The neighborhood can be a little noisy and the walls are kind of thin, but this did not really bother me. Plus the rooms have air conditioning, which is not always offered in other places. All in all, I think this is a great budget option - thank you!

Comments: Amazing place, and amazing permanent resident, very welcoming, polite, and friendly. I was very impressed with the way he makes the beds, very neat. I loved my room, AC was a major plus. Oh and let me tell you about the EXTREMELY comfortable mattress, I slept like a baby. I got super lucky on parking also. The place is very quiet and very peaceful, would definitely stay here again next year.

  • Reviewer: Jojo

Comments: The place and other reviews are accurate. Very kind and accommodating host. If you just need a place to crash for the night, this is a good place to go to.

  • Reviewer: Shovan Kumar

Comments: For a budget room i would say it was a great experience. The host was very responsive. The rooms and washrooms were clean. The room was a bit small but enough for a single person. The only negative thing i would say was that there weren't any windows in the room.

  • Reviewer: Katrina

Comments: I’m disappointed in the experience I had at this place, I was confused about who to communicate with, the room was stuffy with no airflow and the shower/bathroom was a mess. The worst part was the extremely loud tv until midnight. It ruined my sleep and I needed to get up at 430am. I am very tired and grumpy and feel very ripped off to be honest.

  • Reviewer: Tao

Comments: This place is really conveniently located at the center of the city, good eateries and shopping mall within walking distances. Jerry was really hospitable, enjoyed really much.

  • Reviewer: Gustavo

    Comments: alright place.

Comments: Quick & easy to find. Mr. Gerry is friendly & helpful getting there. Wash/dry a major plus. Great location (wal-mart,target, don quijote) all nearby in 10 min walk. Value ia good. Right off the bus line #2. Room has A.C. & privacy Its not a hostel, more of a private room share. You share a shower/toilet/small kitchenette

  • Reviewer: Hiro

Comments: The room was very neat and Wi-Fi was enough speed. The location was also great. You can go to Ala Moana Center in about 15 min by walk. There are many bus stops, so it's easy to go for many sightseeing spots. It takes about 15 min to go to Waikiki beach by bus. The only thing I worried about was the lock of restroom and shower room, because of U-buckle door lock only.

  • Reviewer: Chris

Comments: The space is as described. Do not go into it thinking 5 star hotel. Think more like your family member’s home. It reminded me of when I stayed with my Filipino grandparents. I liked the little touches in the room I stayed in. It was small, but definitely a cute little space for the travelers who don’t need much in order to feel comfy during their stay. The only thing is that the windows are blacked out so it leaves the room feeling very dark. But other than that, nothing that would stop me from staying here again if necessary!

  • Reviewer: Jordi

Comments: Really cool place to stay if you travel alone

  • Reviewer: Jeff

Comments: This room was just what I needed after flying into Honolulu and needing to kill some time before the rest of my party arrived for our vacation. The reviews and descriptions you’ll see in the listing are pretty accurate. This is a no muss, no fuss, clean and comfortable room. I found it to be mostly quiet, though it shares a wall with the bathroom, so you will be aware if anybody is in there. Jerry was a very friendly host, and we shared a little small talk when he let me in, but offered plenty of privacy when I was ready to get settled in. As many have said before, this is an excellent value. Thanks!

  • Reviewer: Zachary

Comments: This place is exactly as advertised. You have your own cozy little room in a sort of apartment like layout. Not a lot of space but exactly what you need if you just need the basics. This is the best place to stay for price vs location value!

  • Reviewer: Cindy

Comments: Needed a place to crash. The bed was clean, blanket was warm and ac blew cold.. Def not a ritz Carlton but for the price I guess it was ok.. wouldn’t recommend it esp cause the kitchen was dirty and I would have loved coffee but the trash smelled so bad I couldn’t even be in there to make my coffee. Bummer but oh well.
