Comments: Glenn and Mary just started hosting on airbnb, and they have the cutest place just about 10 minutes north of Hilo, in a nice, older neighborhood with old plantation style homes. Very picturesque. Kind size bed, very comfortable, full bathroom, little kitchenette space, nice closet, flat screen TV with DVD player and nice selection of DVDs. Super clean, supplied everything, even fruit in the fridge, a very nice surprise. Super friendly people, easy to talk to, and a great dog named Maddy. I really enjoyed myself.

Comments: Mary & Glenn's studio is Adorable and so are they!! I arrived at night in a down pour - and Mary met me outside with an umbrella!! They are so lovely and have put a Lot of Energy into making this studio super cute!! They provide absolutely everything you need for your stay!! It is 4 miles North of Hilo - very convenient and easy to find. It is in a very quiet neighborhood - the only thing I heard all night was the chorus of frogs and birds. There is a code lock on the door to your own little apartment - it far exceeded my expectations - the photos do not do it justice. I highly recommend staying here - it's clean - cute - and quiet - and Mary & Glenn are very gracious hosts.

Comments: This AirBnB is perfect. A true AirBnB. Fresh fruit, taro bread, juice, water, and coffee fill the kitchen. The area is extremely clean. The bed is super comfortable. The bathroom is stocked full of all the amenities anyone could ask for. The lot is beautiful. Glenn and Mary are great. I really have no bad things to say. 10/10 would recommend to anyone staying in the area in the future.

I didn't get a chance to meet Glenn, but Mary was very sweet and helpful.

Comments: Beautiful private room with very nice bath, a place to make coffee in the morning and a place to park your car. We had a great time there and it was the best Air BnB experience I have had so far. Mary and Glenn are so nice and provided everything for us, really easy access to the room due to a number lock, fruits and delicious Taro buns in the morning, information about Hilo and all in all a welcoming and lovely experience. I highly recommend this place and would love to stay there again. Thank you!

Comments: We absolutely loved staying at this place! Our favorite out of two weeks in Hawaii. It is very close to Hilo, but just far away enough to be quiet and residential. The space was well-equipped with amenities, more so than we were expecting. Glenn and Mary were friendly and available whenever we needed them. Lovely garden and property, too. Excellent place!

Comments: Glenn and Mary's place is very welcoming and clean. Glenn and Mary are friendly and helpful, but give you your space. Their home is in a quiet, historical area with plantation homes. The price is very reasonable and the rooms are very comfortable. The bed and bedding are ultra comfortable making for a wonderful night's sleep after busy days. We strongly recommend Glenn and Mary's place!

Comments: Mary's place is the place you want to be staying when the airline loses your luggage, she has fully stocked her rental with just about anything you need. Though it is an old plantation era home the space is freshly painted, nicely decorated, and quite comfortable. The neighborhood holds a secret which alone is reason to stay there. Glenn and Mary have lots of local knowledge to share, and Mary can give you an education in local hula. Light sleepers note there are barking dogs and crowing roosters in the neighborhood.

Comments: Glenn and Mary were great hosts! Their home is located just outside of Hilo and is a quick five minute drive into town. Their rental space is private with a separate entrance which makes it easy to come and go as you please. We would happily stay again if our travels bring us back to the Hilo area in the future!

Comments: Glenn and Mary’s place is beautiful, excellently appointed and maintained. They have thought of absolutely everything a guest might want or need. The bed is the most comfortable bed I have slept in over the course of many Airbnb stays. It rained hard several of the days we were there, but the sound of the rain was enchanting and was lovely to watch as well. There is a beautiful scenic walk down to the beach at the end of the street. The location is just about 10 minutes out of Hilo on the way north to Honokaa and Waipio Valley, close to many waterfalls, botanical gardens and ziplines! I could imagine relaxing here for days on end and hope to come back to do just that!

Comments: Mary's and Glenn's room feels more like a 1 br apartment. Lots of space, spotless clean, and nicely decorated with a small kitchenette to have breakfast and a private bath. Mahalo for the bread and honey and butter and tea and coffee and all the small details in the kitchenette and bathroom that made our short stay super comfortable and convenient. Communication and check-in were very smooth and Mary pointed us to a few sights near-by for a rainy day. Highly recommended hosts. Thanks again!

Comments: Loved this place!! Glenn and Mary thought if everything — forgot something? They probably have it. Want to snorkel but need mask and fins...yep, beach towel...of course. Forgot mouthwash or your shaver...you guessed it. The neighborhood is quiet, has its own little beach, and is close to hilo for eats etc... but also just a few minutes to the botanical garden.

Comments: We really loved staying with Mary and Glenn! It’s calm and peaceful place very close to Hilo (just about 5min drive). We liked to have morning coffee on a comfy porch, small beach was just 5 min walking. Mary gave us very good recomendations and overall it was pleasant to chat. Thank you Mary and Glenn for having us! and special thanks for coffee and muffins!

Comments: Our two night stays at Glenn and Mary's were so lovely and highly recommended. They have more than everything needed for us to stay comfortable. The room is very clean and decorated in lovely Hawaiian style. We also enjoyed walking to the cozy beach very close from the house and have relaxing personal beach time. Mary was very helpful in giving us necessary information around the area and Hilo. If you are spending time in Hilo side of the island, this place is worthy staying!

Reviewer: Dragana
Comments: There should be a rating "EXCEPTIONAL" for places way above 5 stars, as this one is. Mary and Glenn have created "home away from home" for a tired traveler. Not only that the place is sparkling clean, having a comfort level of the highest rated hotels, king-size bed I only wish I had at home, kitchenette with everything you need even if you decide to move-in full time, bathroom with everything "in case you forgot" and much, much more. Touches like cold water and juices in the fridge, as well as your coffee cream and butter, Keurig coffee maker with the best coffees to choose from, fresh Kona coffee with the grinder for the freshest flavour, chocolate candies for the sweet tooth attack, varieties of teas to choose from, honey and any other sweetener to choose from for the picky ones are there, as well as the assortment of DVDs, books, cards, maps, beach towel, instructions for the places to see and things to taste and then there are your kindest of the kind hosts and their puppies they saved from the pond. Words escape me to describe how they made us feel and how happy we were to find their place on the last night of our long stay in Hawaii when all you need is a good rest for the night of travel ahead. Our hosts were wonderful enough and let us stay till 6pm which was something we didn't even dream of getting as our flight was the late one. Their cutest dogs are there to welcome you , but will not bug you if you are not a dog person. The greatest regret we have is that we didn't discover this home for the whole week were staying in Hilo on the beginning of our trip. It would have been just the best thing, but we will come back and sure enough we will let everyone know about Glenn and Mary. The location could not be better.. a walk away from the beach, but close enough to downtown Hilo and a breeze to access. Literally minutes drive on away from all the important places to see in Hilo, yet centrally located to all the sites to visit on the north side of the east coast as well as those south of Hilo and the Volcano National Park. If you are planning on staying and exploring the incredible beauty of the east side of Big Island, feel lucky if you are reading this and finding your dates available on Glenn and Mary's calendar. I can't recommend these hosts and their home enough. Thank you again for your exceptional kindness and the home you opened to complete strangers with your whole heart!

Comments: We had a wonderful stay at Glenn and Mary’s! The home is a wonderfully restored plantation era building. The room is spacious, beautifully decorated with so many delightful little surprises and thoughtful touches like fresh water in lovely glass bottles, his and her robes in the bathroom, a great assortment of teas and much more. Private and special and so close to Hilo. Loved the black sand beach within walking distance down the street. Mary was thoughtful and helpful and respectful of our privacy. Comments: Glenn & Mary are amazing hosts. They were accommodating enough to let us check-in late in the night. The room itself is really good. _HIGH_ ceilings, a huge bed. The neat little kitchenette was stocked with everything we would need. We made breakfast everyday and had tea in the mornings - haha. The room has its own entrance and a private bathroom (fully stocked). They have insect repellents to used in case someone wants to hike to this nearby beach too. Glenn & Mary have written up things to see and do in a binder that is kept on the side table. Quite a lot of information it had. We followed a couple of them - Hilo Farmer's Market and Rainbow Falls. What is amazing is that Glenn & Mary have slowly but surely remodeled and fixed the whole house themselves. Kudos! Thanks for having us.

Comments: We stayed at Glenn and Mary’s place for one night and it was absolutely an enjoyable experience. We arrived late and they kindly left lights on the driveway for us so we can easily self check-in at night. The room was clean and private, with thoughtful touches such as beverages in the mini fridge and drinking water for coffee or tea, or the local travel & dining tips. We didn’t meet them in person but from the messages and the settings of the space we can feel that they really care for their guests. We will definitely stay here again if we are back in the area.

They have multiple toiletries, bug spray, and guide books along with water, juices, coffee, tea cream and sugar etc. Mary responded quickly to all my texts and let me check in a few hours early. She also gave me lots of good tips on beautiful drives and good snorkeling in the area. Her place is close to Hilo and several beautiful waterfalls. The bird & frogs sounds at night were amazing. She has high quality towels, bathrobes and slippers. For the price this is an incredible value.

The space was perfect for us: separate entrance from the main house with our own kitchenette and very lovely private bathroom. Huge, comfy bed. So many thoughtful touches really made an impression on us. Hosts were available for any help but gave us total privacy. We only spent 1 night here but wished we'd had longer. Comments: A spot in the jungle! The studio-like setup was very spacious with little extras for us in both the kitchenette and the bathroom, like Kona coffee beans, cold juice, and pretty much every toiletry you could forget. The room itself had great lighting and the bed was comfy. The front yard is absolutely lush and gorgeous and full of green gecko friends. It's a little bit of a drive to get to downtown Hilo (~10-15min), but I wanted to stay here because it was more in the forest. The walk down to the black sand beach was beautiful and we had the beach to ourselves to admire when we went went exploring. This is a great place to stay.

Great location, close to downtown Hilo. Also there is a little nice beach walk there, feel like a private adventure to see the old sugar mill, black sand and the jungle, must check out! Mary was very friendly, we had a great time staying there!

Comments: Glenn and Mary's blew us away! They provide so many little touches that made our stay incredible. There's a little kitchenette with a microwave, fridge, and coffee maker, and there's all the dishes you'll need for a longer stay (we stayed for six nights). There's a BBQ outside that we used to make simple meals, and the bathroom is very nice with a lovely big shower and they even provide comfy housecoats! The bed is very comfortable, there's cable TV/loads of DVDs to pick from, and there's a lovely deck with chairs out on it to enjoy the sounds of nature. We loved our stay here and would highly recommend it to anyone visiting the Big Island!

Comments: Glenn and Mary's place had everything I needed. There was coffee and juice provided and the room was very comfortable. There's a really nice beach down the road that was completely empty, and hilo is less than 10 minutes away by car. I would definitely stay again.

Comments: Glenn and Mary's place is in a fantastic location! Just outside of Hilo, it's away from congestion, but close enough to everything you'd need such as dining and shopping. There is a beach a short walk from the place, but be prepared to spray up with Off or some other insect repellent. At night, the coqui frogs will put on a serenade for you, which will last until the break of dawn. We didn't mind; when we got back to Kansas, we were anticipating them starting up at sundown. If we're ever back in Hilo, we'd definitely try to stay here again.

Comments: We loved Glenn and Mary's place! We had complete privacy with our own separate space and there were several nice touches like a small kitchenette stocked with honey, tea, etc. The location is very central and is close to downtown Hilo as well as Akaka Falls and Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden. Would stay again and definitely recommend to others!

Comments: We arrived late and Glenn and Mary made sure we knew everything we needed to know to make checking in painless at 1am. The room was spotless and perfectly ready for us and on top of that there were fresh flowers in the room from the garden. Everything we could possibly need was in the room, directions for anything unfamiliar and thoughtful things like cold water in the fridge and extra toiletries in the bathroom not to mention the fresh flowers. Glenn and Mary are as available as you need them to be and very helpful and friendly. The location was perfect for us, Hilo has much more charm than Kona and still has many things to do and see. The Saturday farmers market in Hilo, the botanical garden and the beautiful eastern coast to name a few. If you're looking for a quiet, lush place to relax and resorts and crowds aren't your thing the Hilo side of the island is much better. Such a wonderful stay with wonderful hosts!
