Comments: We picked Alan & Lori's place to stay during the Merrie Monarch Hula event. We loved the seclusion and quiet of their place. They met us and were very flexible about our check-in time. Our plans changed and they accommodated us arriving early. They were always very communicators and answered all our questions quickly. Such nice people and we will definately stay again!

Comments: Great place to base camp for relaxing and exploring Hilo side of island. Alan and Lori are fantastic hosts and provided all the insider tips for what to see, etc. We will definitely come back here again.

Comments: We enjoyed our short stay so much!! The home was adorable with so many well thought out details including themed decorations and a wonderful porch with a grill and beautiful landscaping. They had a small basket of snacks and drinks which were perfect, and they offered an amazing information packet about the island and their recommendations. The attention to details show that they are passionate about their rental. We would recommend this site in a heartbeat and if we return to the Big Island (as we hope to) we would be happy to return to this location. It is close to Mauna Kea, tidal pools with excellent snorkeling, and the national volcano park, as well as the town Hilo, with a great farmers market.

Comments: WOW! What a great experience! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND staying at this location. It was inexpensive and a perfect situation for us. My wife and I life on the west side of the Big Island and wanted to do a one week "Staycation" on the east side. We love hiking around Volcano National Park and we enjoy exploring Hilo on occasion too. Alan and Lori's place was centrally located for us. We just needed a bed, a fridge, a microwave, a bathroom and a grill. Alan and Lori's place provided all that but so much more as well. Right from the start they were very responsive to questions and our planning. We were fortunate to not have someone staying there the night before or the night after our stay so Alan made early checkin available to us and offered a later checkout option as well, through we had to leave early in the morning to get back home. The Aloha Suite was a great space! High ceilings, and very comfortable. Alan and Lori live in the house about 30 yards from this separate building. They are available if you need them but they don't hover. You can have "getaway private time" or you can chat with them. Your choice. We cooked on the grill outside most nights under the covered lanai, and ate out there as well. We popped popcorn in the microwave inside and relaxed with a little Netflix several nights right before bed to unwind after a long day of hiking and exploring the east side of the island. Direct TV is an option as well and there are quite a few movies and shows available on the DVR. Alan and Lori have put together a great booklet overview of places to see, places to eat, places to shop, etc. around the island with spot-on information. They are very personable and attentive, friendly people. We felt very welcomed and safe at the property. It was very clean when we arrived, Alan was there to greet us at check in. They provided some popcorn, coffee, juice drinks and other little hospitality touches that were very appreciated. The bed was comfortable and the fans scattered around the suite kept things at a comfortable temperature. Again, we HIGHLY RECOMMEND the "Aloha Suite" of Alan and Lori and I am certain we will stay there again when our next east side staycation craving hits.

Comments: We just finished a 1 week stay at Alan and Lori 's place. This is a very nice separate unit with lots of privacy and all the amenities you will need for a great stay. Super clean and cozy. We had a great stay. Alan even took us snorkeling one morning , which is way above and beyond what you would expect from a host. Thanks again. K and G

Comments: I just finished up a month long stay at the Aloha Suite. I found it to be exactly what I was looking for in an extended stay. The location is beautiful, private, and quiet. Alan and Lori are the perfect hosts- always available for questions and giving great recommendations for local things to do. The suite has a very comfortable king sized bed, couch, cable tv, dedicated Wu-if. I loved the concrete floors and covered lanai. The Ohana itself is practically brand new and very clean. I already have a return stay booked!

Comments: Great place to stay! Alan was friendly and very helpful with suggestions for beach spots and dinner suggestions. Private house with great coffee in the AM and microwave/toaster oven, etc. if needed. Also had snorkel gear, beach towels and chairs available. Clean and inviting - would definitely stay here again!

The place was very clean and private, the kitchen was stocked with everything we needed for our stay also the bed was very comfortable to sleep. Comments: We had a wonderful time at Alan and Lori’s suite. It was small but perfect for the two of us. Although close to the main house, it was very private and comfy. They had snorkel gear and beach chairs for use too! And lots of great books and resources to further explore. They were super welcoming and helpful and provided lots of good ideas for seeing the island, even when it was raining all day. We would definitely stay there again. Thanks so much!

Comments: Thank you, Alan & Lori, for having us! Your guest suite was a great stop for us after a long day - the unit was sparkling clean and stylishly decorated, which made us feel right at home. We especially loved the welcome basket with snacks and drinks :) Upon check in, we were a couple hours later than expected (and didn’t have working phones to contact the host), and Alan was super accommodating and waited up to greet us. He was lovely to chat to, and offered plenty of suggestions and information on the area. I would definitely recommend a stay here! My only regret is that we couldn’t stay longer.

Comments: Alan & Lori's place is in a beautiful ocean front neighbourhood. They provided so many amazing tips and ideas for things to do on this side of the island. We took a couple trips to the volcano national park and even had a chance to view the live lava flow. Great spot if you're planning on spending some time in the park!

Comments: This was my first air b&b experience, and I must say it was everything I hoped for. The place is homey and clean, and perfect if you want a home base for a week of adventure in Hawaii. The bed was comfortable, and the temperature quite nice without air conditioning. The kitchen & coffee setup was great, as we prepared our breakfast at the house each day. The cooler and beach supplies were a nice bonus. The lanai was a perfect place for morning coffee or evening refreshment. Alan was friendly & hospitable, yet allowed us complete privacy. As long as you are not hoping to be right in the hustle and bustle of things, this place is perfect. It is a little drive from many of the places you may want to visit, but we found it quite worth it. I would definitely stay here again.

Comments: Very friendly and generous reception. We had to make booking changes last-minute - yet, everything was very smooth.

  • Reviewer: William

Comments: Alan and Lori are great host. Clean and tranquil house. Very close to the beautiful seaside. A bit dark at the kitchen area, need some improvement.

  • Reviewer: Debra

Comments: The Aloha Suite is the perfect place to spend some needed relaxation time. Alan and Lori were superb hosts. As soon as we landed, Alan texted great locations for meals and food and supplies to stock the 'frig or grab extra toiletries. Our hosts gave us our space, but were available to help us with recommendations for attractions. We REALLY LOVED the Umauma Falls & ZipLine Experience. Read the Suite Handbook-the recommendations there are spot-on (don't try to walk to Green Sands Beach - use the local's shuttle). The close walk (or drive) down to the lava cliffs at the end of the road provided us with the ocean view we craved AND YOU CAN WATCH THE GLOW from Fissure #8 from the lava rock just outside your bedroom window! The Suite was uncluttered and easy to maintain. The newly installed ceiling fan in the front room gave us relief from the expected island humidity. The large shower had room for two! The full-sized 'frig and microwave and electric burner meant that you could cook (if you so chose!) or just keep your beverages nice and cold. The Aloha Suite was perfect for our trip!

Comments: Alan and Lori were both very nice hosts and Alan provided lots of helpful tips on things to do and places to eat locally. They were also great about giving us our own space while we were there. There's a very cool shoreline within walking distance which was a great place to watch the waves. It was nice to stay in a less touristy area but still be close enough to Hilo to go to the larger city whenever we wanted to. We would definitely recommend staying there.

  • Reviewer: Matthew

Comments: Great value! Really comfy guest house in a beautiful location. The place feels much bigger and roomier than it looks in photos, and was a very comfortable place to stay for myself, my girlfriend, and our 2 year old son. Feels very private despite the fact that the hosts live in the main house on the property. Alan was very responsive to any questions or needs we had. Would highly recommend to people looking for a place to stay in Puna.

  • Reviewer: Maryam

Comments: This is one of the best Airbnbs I have EVER stayed at. The space is large, clean and comfortable (with a super comfy bed!). The kitchen in particular is exceptionally well equipped (microwave popcorn was a great touch). You can tell that Alan and Lori have put a lot of thought into the details. Alan has hit upon the perfect balance between providing helpful travel tips and recommendations but then stepping back and giving us the space to do our own thing. Hope to come back in the future!

  • Reviewer: Cohen

Comments: Alan and Lori were amazing hosts. They provided us with get recommendations and helped plan our day trips. Their place is spacious and spotless and was a overall great experience!

  • Reviewer: Adam

Comments: Alan and Lori's place was great, they have everything you'd need in a cozy little space that is comfortable in a way that makes sense for a place where you'll be in beach mode. It's in a nice area with some cools things and that is really well located to check out everything in the Hilo region. They had a decent amount of foodstuffs and even left us a couple nice ripe papayas. Alan was easy to communicate with when we wanted to and gave us convenient directions and would send us (Hidden by Airbnb) map links to good restaurants and cool things around the area. Really everything you could want in an airbnb.
