  Comments: Joe is a very friendly guy. We communicated through the app and he replied in a timely manner. He lives at the top of the building so you'll be walking up like 6 floors and careful on the stairs. It's New York so if you're not used to small and tight apartments then you'll find out the struggle is real here. I only stayed from noon to about 6pm so I don't know how it is at night time. Unfortunately, when we stayed there it was like 60 degrees and the small rooms felt hot and humid even after opening the windows due to the windows facing the sun directly. I was surprised by the rooftop and don't want to spoil it for you but if you like to make most of what you have then you'll like it. The location is dope but if you're looking for comfort you might be a bit disappointed. But the bed was nice. You'll feel like a college roommate on a tight budget for sure.

  Comments: Joe's place is logistically perfect, nestled in the East Village and very close to the subway. Joe is a lovely host, helpful and caring. The terrace is stunning. Just be aware in the summer the flat can be very warm, the room has a properly working air conditioner but it is very noisy. Also the location is very noisy, but hey, it is East Village, and it is New York so it is just expected. Expect privacy but not too much, as the other two rooms in the flat (which is actually very small) can be rented out. Note the flat is on the 5th floor with no elevator.

  Comments: I had a pleasant stay at Joe's apartment. He's easy to talk to and replies immediately so check in/check-out process was very easy. The location of his apartment is very central. Good restaurants and subway station are nearby. The apartment is small(I expected it to be small) there's no elevator so buckle up to walk up to the 5th (or 6th) floor. If you don't mind any of these things then this is the place to stay in the heart of New York on a budget. Oh and the rooftop is a bonus. Feels great to be up there :)

  Comments: This is in the best location, right next to the metro. Joe had cookies made when I got there which was awesome and immediately offered me a coconut water which was so nice. He had coffee, tea, earplugs all available plus the room was very clean. Highly recommended!

  Comments: This apartment is in an incredible neighbourhood. Joe's place is really close to the trains plus tasty, affordable, and diverse array of restaurants. Outside of when I went to BK, I walked to and from most places. If you're visiting during crisp or warm seasons, I'll recommend skipping the cabs or trains when possible. Stay above ground and enjoy the local sights/sounds. As for the bedroom, the street noise is inescapable but not at all unbearable - the A/C really helps to drown it out. If you decide to stay here, you will love the charming little rooftop. That hammock is a lovely reset from the fast NY pace :) Joe is super friendly, accommodating and very easy to get a hold of. I enjoyed talking to him about running, Instagram and exchanging music recommends.

Joe was always helpful for anything regarding my stay and the apartment and was a great guy to hang out with. The neighborhood is very safe and has tons of options for food and drinks. There is also mice in the apartment. They ate through our meal bars. Also, the host was involved with a girl in the living room when we came back the first night. It was very awkward and uncomfortable. It felt very much like a college house. We would not stay here again even if it was free.

  Comments: This is a great option for those who want to stay in a great downtown location and don't need a lot of space. Per the description, it IS the classic cozy NY walk-up apartment; if you need an elevator, a lot of floor space to do yoga, spread out all your stuff, etc. you should look elsewhere. For everyone else, it's great: the small roof deck gives a great view of downtown (and come to think of it, you could do your yoga there); and you're walking distance to tons of great restaurants, different neighborhoods, subway stations, etc. Joe is a laid-back and welcoming host. He was prompt and clear when we were coordinating my arrival, thoughtfully explained the place and how everything worked, and basically made me feel comfortable.

  Comments: Great location! Joe was in constant communication. The room is right off the kitchen, behind french doors (which was a bit unexpected), but has a blackout curtain for privacy. I was bummed I didn't get to use the in-apartment roof access, which is a great perk!

  Comments: Joes place is the quintessential NYC bachelor pad. The place is small and feels lived in, but you have privacy and cool features like a spiral staircase to the rooftop patio. Walking your luggage up the five stories is a bit of a workout so be prepared. The stairwell is narrow too. I enjoyed my time. The extra toiletries in the bathroom were nice if you forgot something. Location is great and the price was right.

The neighborhood is very nice, not too crowded but full of various restaurants and bars to go out. 3min walk to the subway to the city center (~15min). Joe was super cool and welcoming, always happy to help for anything. The room we had was pretty small for two people, but it s worth the price. We saved money for tours, restaurants and drinks ;-). Think about taking earplugs, the nights are quite noisy, as it is the case everywhere in NYC. I would go def go back to this place for a next trip in NY !

  Comments: Good location. Joe gave great detailed instructions for getting into the building so there were no problems. This seems like a nice quiet neighborhood. Lots of schools in the area. The bed was comfortable and there was a fan/AC unit which is good if you want to block out traffic noise. Joe offers snacks and beverages - a nice touch when you are tired from a long trip. Cool spiral staircase leads up to the rooftop with a nice night view of the skyline. The only thing I could recommend for this pace would be a little "tidying up" and decor improvement, then it would be A+.

Considerar que es en un cuarto piso (sin elevador) y que como el departamento está ubicado cerca de bares hay mucho ruido por las noches y es difícil dormir. The location is great, lot of places to visit and eat in East Village and really close to the subway with great connections. I can't give it 5 stars cause on Friday night it was really hard to sleep because of the noise. The music was very loud outside and it didn't stop until 5 AM. But it is still a good place if you just want to crash for a reasonable price in NYC.

We spent only one night there, to avoid the longest commute to Brooklyn after a Halloween party. With the fan on to cover street noise, we slept well. Perfect for backpackers and young people. Too bad we didn't meet Joe. Communication with him was really easy and clear anyways. Thanks for the chocolate left on the pillows and for the free drinks in the fridge !

  Comments: I have stayed all over New York over the last 25 years but never in the East Village. This was by far my favorite neighborhood I’ve ever stayed in, and Joe’s location is outstanding. Affordable restaurants, great super markets, and public transit are all around. Patisserie Florentine on 10th was my favorite place to get coffee and pastries in the morning, but there is also a great place on 11th (Veniero’s) for pastry. Westside Market on 3rd Ave is a nice market for fresh fruit and prepared foods. I loved Beyond Sushi on 14th Street for fast, fresh, affordable Vegan meals (and the people there were super friendly). The Strand Bookstore is a short walk away, and the L train is just two blocks away for a quick ride into Williamsburg/Brooklyn. UCB theater is a few blocks south for cheap, fun stand-up comedy, East Village Cinema is just a couple blocks away for indie/foreign films, and of course Union Square is just right down 14th. There’s also a Trader Joe’s on 14th but it is really crowded. Lots of fun stuff to do in the area. I am a female and traveled alone, often returning to the apartment very late at night, and I felt completely safe. The apartment is as represented—not flashy or glamorous, just basic, convenient, and affordable. The trickiest part was the shower—it’s got a mind of it’s own but it’s not a deal breaker. The room next to mine had two guests, and Joe had his own room. There is only one bathroom but I never had to wait more than 10 minutes to use it. At one point there were four other people in the apartment when Joe had a friend staying with him. Everyone was very very quiet and respectful of others when taking time in the bathroom. However, if you are someone who does not like sharing a bathroom with so many people (and it is a small bathroom) and you do not like walking up five flights of stairs, you should probably find another place. I could not have been happier with this location and will definitely return to the East Village.

  Comments: Me and a friend rented one of the bedrooms for a Saturday night. The price is crazy good for the location! If you like to walk or ride a bike, it’s very close to everything on manhattan. We used the subway, the station is about 3 minutes away. Check in and out were super easy and Joe was flexible with that which was nice for us. It’s a nice neighborhood with actually everything you need. Joe is an amazing host. We talked with him for hours on the roof deck. He made sure we had everything we needed and if we would have asked for more, I’m sure he would have gotten it. The sharing of one bathroom is usually not my favorite but it was not a problem at all there. We would definitely stay there again!

  Comments: Joe's apartment is great and Joe is a very nice host! I really enjoyed staying at his place. He is willing to explain everything, tell you something about living in Manhattan and is very fast with answering all the questions you might have. The apartment is not huge but clean, convenient and quiet. The rooms was nice, had a huge bed, airco and a lockable door. I especially enjoyed having breakfast and dinner on the rooftop, because of the amazing view from up there! The apartment is located very close to the L-train subway station (1st ave) and in a nice and lively neighborhood. There is a cheap deli across the street where you can buy amazing bacon,egg&cheese rolls. There are several laundromats located close to the apartment, which are convenient to use. I will definitely come back!

  Comments: Joe’s appartment is located in the very lively East Village neighborhood (which I love, I stay in that same area each time I come to New York). After 5 flights of stairs (Joe warns you about it) and very accurate information on how to enter the place (in case Joe’s not home at that moment), you enter his home, that will become yours for the duration of your stay. The appartment is not big, but this is New York! Nevertheless, you have enough space for your room and in the common areas (kitchen, living room, bathroom, and of course the rooftop). AC is very convenient on the hot days of the New York summer. There are units in the bedrooms and the living room. Kitchen is easy to use, and Joe insists on the fact you can use whatever you need in there. Bathroom is shared with Joe, and possibly another guest, but I never had to wait to use it. It’s a little old (but then again, old building) but clean. Be careful to the hot water in the shower: it seems to have a mind on its own ;) Bedroom is not super big, but you have a large and comfortable bed and a closet to hang your clothes (for the bedroom I was renting, that closet is in the living room, that is not at all an issue). And finally, up one last flight of stairs, you have access to a private rooftop over the city. Perfect for the morning coffee or a drink after a day visiting. That was the little plus! Joe is a very kind guy, that makes everything he can to help you have a nice stay, he’s very quiet and let you a lot of space in his own home. Overall a nice stay in a nice appartment with a nice host!

  Comments: Joe’s place was great. Excellent location, there’s all kinds of good food nearby and it is close to NYU’s School of Medicine which was important for my stay. The room is purely functional - there is a bed with some outlets and place to put your things. It won’t be sparking clean or organized as a hotel is, but for how nice Joe was and the location, it is pretty much a bargain. He also has all kinds of snacks, coffee, and toiletries you can use/have if needed. And lastly, his view from his roof is amazing. Super awesome and would recommend if you need a place to stay near East Village.

It’s not his fault, but the stairs and stair well look like they have never been mopped or scrubbed since the building has existed, and the rooms themselves are quite grimy and cluttery...bring Lysol wipes.

  Comments: This room is perfect for setting your belongings down in a safe space and getting out to explore the city. It's in a wonderful location on the lower east side and is close to so many amazing restaurants. Joe was very accommodating and an incredibly kind person. There is not a lot of space in the room so if you're looking for somewhere to sprawl out this may not be the best option, but for me and my purposes it was perfect. I didn't want to spend a whole lot of time in my room anyways, for the large majority of my stay I was out exploring the city. At night it's the perfect place to retire to after a long day of walking Manhattan. I'll definitely try to stay here again if I come back to NY. Thanks Joe!

  Comments: Joe's instructions are clear and it is easy to get to his place. As he mentioned, you definitely have to climb up 5 flights of stairs. I was winded by the third floor with a heavy suitcase, but consider it a nice workout. There is a room set aside where the bed takes up most of the space and you can put your belongings in another room. The bed is comfy and he provides 3 pillows and enough blankets to stay warm. The shower is ok; I couldn't quite figure out the temperature because it kept shifting. He provides a plethora of shampoo and one kind of conditioner. I'm a stickler when it comes to my hair so I'd suggest bringing your conditioner if you are too. He provides coffee and various breakfast foods. It can be a bit loud in the room - the outside noise seeps in. I heard a lot of construction, people singing, talking. I'm a deep sleeper however so I got through it. Thanks Joe!

Otherwise a gem of an AirBnB and I’ll definitely stay here again if I can. Joe was super friendly and very considerate. The place has mad style with a nice rooftop access. Totally worth it!

The place is nicely located, and as someone who just needed somewhere to crash while dealing with foreign consulates in NYC, it was exactly what I needed. Cons: Grimy building, lots of broken decor and a very noisy (though comfortably warm) radiator. I'm a bit spoiled from using AirBnB in smaller/cheaper cities and abroad, so I may have had inflated expectations; it's probably par for the course for the area.

  Comments: La descripción es real, la ubicación es muy buena, el barrio es muy seguro y tiene estación de tren subterráneo a dos cuadras de distancia. El dormitorio es pequeño, recomiendo solo para una persona, con dos personas en el dormitorio se vuelve incómoda la estadía. el dormitorio tiene muebles algo viejos y poco funcionales. Joe entrega instrucciones reales y muy precisas de cómo llegar y lo que ofrece y cómo funciona su departamento. En resumen: buena ubicación, Joe no miente en la descripción pero podría mejorar mucho con sólo modernizar el aspecto del pequeño dormitorio que ofrece.

Apartment and bedroom were very comfortable and made me feel right at home. Amenities beyond what I was expecting. Amazing location, right in the middle of all the best restaurants. Momofuku Noodle Bar and milk bar are just a couple minute walk. Lots of night life. Just a couple blocks from the subway, very easy to get around. Will def be staying here again!
