  Comments: Michael's place was awesome! A beautiful 2 bedroom vacation house. It was super clean. The king size bed in the master's bedroom was very comfortable. The 2nd bedroom was just as comfortable. Loved the clean white towels in the bathroom. I enjoyed the kitchen! I cooked homemade food almost everyday while on this vacation. Washer and dryer was a plus. The lanai, the hammock, the BBQ, the beautiful sorroundings! We slept at night with all the windows open. The sound, the fresh air, and the beauty of the rainforest put us to sleep and woke us up every day refreshed. David and Henrietta, who are the caretakers were great! They were kind, very helpful, and hospitable. We felt at home! We could stay at Mike's place and be super comfortable!

  Comments: This is a beautiful home! Very tastefully decorated and comfortable with everything you need. The covered lanai is fantastic, great place to relax. The kitchen is well stocked and all the linens are nice and new. There is a healthy population of coqui frogs, chickens and roosters, so if you’re a light sleeper like me, it may be a little noisy.

  Comments: This home is just lovely! Better than I'd hoped in regards to getting away from our busy week for a much needed peaceful weekend. The area is very private, can't see anyone else from the home or property.. clean and beautifully decorated. Everything you need is there... A quick drive into Pahoa for breakfast and coffee. Close enough to get around to the sites if you want or comfy enough to just stay in. There are small climate pockets to be aware of so if you see it's raining, don't let it stop you because as Michael pointed out before we came, it could be raining down the road and not raining overhead. I would highly recommend this AirBnB! Thank you!

  Comments: My wife and I had a great stay here. We stayed for 9 days and felt at home after the first day. Accommodations were excellent. Only needed to get some groceries on the way there and we were set. The lanai is awesome with bar sink BBQ and lots of comfy seating.. There is a giant hammock there as well for a nice afternoon nap! The location is peaceful if you don't mind coqui frogs, roosters, and occasional dogs barking. But if that does bother you, you shouldn't be on the Hilo side of the island anyways. Lol. Overall we had a great stay and are looking forward to staying here again.

  Comments: Michael's place felt very welcoming. Nicely decorated, lovely touches such as a fresh flower arrangement and local fresh fruit. Comfy beds, beach towels were handy, loved the big screen T.V., plenty of places to lounge inside and outside, and a choir of night time "singing" from the local wildlife.

  Comments: You will not be disappointed in any way with your stay at Michael's place. It is absolutely beautiful indoors and outdoors, with everything you will need for your stay in the greater Hilo area. Each room is spotless as well as comfortable; you will really enjoy the lanai for a BBQ or just sitting and enjoying the tropical rainforest. David and Henrietta will make you feel at home if you need anything, too-- they helped us with a couple of things and made us feel very welcome to the home and the area. You will not find a better value than this one in the Hilo area so don't miss out!

  Comments: Lovely building in a rural area between Hilo and Pahoa. Nice wood furniture inside and pretty comfy beds. Atmosphere is great, we enjoyed hearing the frogs at night. Would stay again if we go back to the big island.

  Comments: We’ve stayed with many hosts, and several in Hawaii, and this one is a true gem! Easy to find, very private and comfortable, and the stars were amazing. If we had been able to stay longer, we would have made great use of the wonderful lanai as well. Next time we are back on the Big Island, this will be our first choice!

  Comments: Michael's place is very secluded. It takes around 20-30 minutes' drive from Hilo airport area. Those who are looking for a place quiet yet close enough to sightsee, Michael's place is perfect for you. And the amenity here is fantastic! From cutlery and ingredients to shampoo and a washing machine--all you need to bring is your simple-packed luggage. You can also appreciate starry night if you just look up the sky. I really recommend this place.

  Comments: Mike & Monica's home is beautiful, clean, quiet and private. The drive up to the home, you can’t help but appreciate the greenery and landscaping. The home was equipped with a lot of amenities and it really felt like my home away from home. The drive out to the home was also beautiful. It is very close to the main city of Hilo and close to a lot of other areas. Although I wasn’t able to meet Mike, he was very responsive when I had any questions.

  Comments: Beautifully decorated, spotless and very private. It was perfect for us with our two kids. We even got a pack and play without asking. What needs the most emphasis is the king bed. I think I’ve never slept in a bed that was THAT comfortable. (And I’m writing this review out of my super luxurious bed at the Hilton Waikoloa -just as a reference )

  Comments: My husband, myself and our two sons just finished our 3 night stay at Mike's Lehua Lanai and can say that it surpassed our expectations. We've stayed at many Airbnbs around the world and haven't experienced the attention to detail and thoughtfulness that Mike's put into his "home away from home". It's tastefully renovated, extremely clean and decorated with nice touches such as: • Large umbrella by the front door • Corner guards on glass coffee table • Fluffy white towels • Lots of extra towels folded in sets and each set wrapped with ribbon • Comfy mattresses especially the King size one • High Quality bed linens • Full roll of toilet paper in the holder, folded into a point (just like in a hotel) • Bright bathroom lighting, great for makeup application • Lots of pots/pans, knives and utensils in kitchen • Outdoor bar with living room seating and a hammock on Lanai • Many more David and Henrietta who live in the big house on the property were a delight to talk to. They're genuinely nice, hospitable people who truly care about making their guests' stay enjoyable. I'm a light sleeper and despite the assorted noises (frogs, roosters etc.), I had no problem falling asleep and sleeping undisturbed throughout the night. The area is quiet, private and extremely safe. It was a perfect location for exploring the volcano and surrounding area as well as experiencing old Hawai'i.

  Comments: This home is both secluded (which we loved) but close to what we needed. After exploring the island it was nice to come home and relax under the lanai and listen to the rain. The amenities were helpful (extra towels, beach towels, bbq,tons of condiments). This was a great and satisfying stay

  Comments: We were two couples and had a great stay at Michael's place. The house was as in the pictures, with all the amenities to make a comfortable stay, in a perfect environment. We were aware of the noise of coqui frogs, however for us was even relaxing listening in the nights, but is something you might expect if you are staying in that part of the island. We didn't know Michael in person, but we could communicate with him all time, and we had the care of David, which was really thoughtful. We had a leakage of water, but was quickly solved by David, without causing disturbances to us. The house is well located, in a quiet area, but you need car to move around. We totally recommend this place!

  Comments: Das Haus liegt sehr ruhig und idyllisch. Alles ist sehr sauber und mit viel Liebe zum Detail. Es war alles da, was wir brauchten und jeder von uns hing auch gern mal in der Hängematte ab. Beim abendlichen Konzert der coqui Frösche konnten wir sehr gut schlafen und das Haus war auch angenehm kühl. Die Kommunikation funktionierte super schnell. Wir fühlten uns sehr wohl und würden jederzeit wieder kommen (wenn die anreise aus Deutschland nicht so lange wäre). Vielen Dank und weiter so!

  Comments: Nous avons passé deux nuits dans la maison. Tout était parfait pour notre petite famille. La propreté était impeccable; les petites attentions; les équipements; etc. Vraiment super ! La maison est près de Hilo et du volcan, facile à trouver et est située sur un magnifique terrain tropical. L’endroit est tranquille et intime. Les bruits de la forêt nous ont enchantés (moins le coq le matin par contre ) La véranda et le bbq sont parfaits pour une soirée. Je recommande vivement cette maison et j’y reviendrais sans aucune hésitation. C’est seulement dommage de ne pas être restés plus longtemps. Merci pour tout !!!

  Comments: Amazing, affordable place next to the main active Volcano near Hilo. All amenities are present, even the Himalayan Pink Salt. Cars can be parked right next to the house, which may not show in the pictures. It is 1.5 - 2 hours away from Kona side as Big Island is Very Big. We knew that going in. Excellent value. Will surely use it again when we stay near Hilo.

  Comments: Michael is a wonderful and timely communicator. He was extremely helpful and understanding of our multiple last minute changes due to an approaching hurricane. The house is spacious and well laid out and has everything you would expect and more. The decorations and details are thought out an add to the experience of island living. The home is very clean and the kitchen has everything you will need to enjoy your stay. We so loved the lanai with the view of the well kept and manicured property, lovely colors and sounds abound. This property is not only a great vacation place, but a home (it feels that way), that we were so fortunate to enjoy. Thanks again Michael, David and Henrietta! Hope to see you soon.

  Comments: Michael’s place is so far the best place I’ve stayed at on the Big Island. Very clean! In Hilo it’s so hard to avoid having red ants in the home or other bugs, but this place had absolutely none even with little snacks left out on the counters. It was well stocked, fresh towels, enough toiletry supplies, great kitchen appliances. I was very impressed. Everything you would expect to have a nice relaxing stay was provided. Such a great place to stay. This is now my go to place when making my annual visits!

  Comments: We were so glad we stayed here. The place was very nice with great amenities. It was private and had a yard around it you could enjoy (along with a lava tube in the back!). Our 8 year old really enjoyed looking around for Geckos and playing around the lava tube. It also had a nice covered lanai with relaxing seats, a hammock, an outdoor bar/sink, and a good sized grill. Inside was very nice and clean and had all the amenities we could want. We felt like we were staying at home here. Fans in every room with remote controls so you had the controls anywhere you needed. The things they had here were great quality (pots/pans, oven, washer/dryer,shower, tv/cable, etc.) and not cheap like other places we stayed at. I thought the location was going to be an issue because it was outside of Hilo, but I was actually happy we stayed here because it was more central to the different places we were exploring while on the Hilo side. The house shares a driveway with the Host’s parents house, who were so nice and informative about different places to explore while here. Even tho you share a driveway, you still have complete privacy so don’t worry about that. Overall we give it two big thumbs up. Definitely will stay here again if we come back to the Hilo side.

  Comments: We had such a good time exploring the Hilo side. We stayed very busy traveling around and Micheal’s place is a great retreat at the end of the day. The home is clean and welcoming and we were really able to unwind at the end of our busy days. The kids really enjoyed seeing the gecko’s around and the frog sounds were entertaining.   Comments: Wer es abgeschieden und ruhig mag ist hier absolut richtig. Viel Natur und hauptsächlich Locals. Es gibt wunderschöne Ecken zu entdecken, welche nicht so überlaufen sind. Das Haus hat alles zu bieten was man braucht und noch mehr (Grill, Waschmaschine, schnelles Internet). Wir waren mit unserer 7 Monate alten Tochter hier und fanden es super. Das Bett ist auch super bequem. David und Henrietta (die Ansprechpartner vor Ort) waren sehr nett und hatten gute Tipps für uns. Wir würden jederzeit wiederkommen und beim nächsten Mal definitiv länger bleiben.

  Comments: Michael’s place was the perfect location when we stayed in Hilo. It allowed us easy access to most sites on the southeast side of the island. Our hosts on site were very friendly and helpful, and were great about giving us our privacy. The home itself was very spacious for our family of 3. We were traveling with our 8-month old son, and we felt the place was baby friendly. There was even a pack n play set up and ready for us to use when we arrived! It was a neat experience being in the outskirts of the rainforest, and listening to all the sounds at night. Overall, we were very happy with the place. It was very comfortable, and felt like coming home after a day of sightseeing.

  Comments: A nice place to stay with pleasant on site hosts. No beaches within walking distance but centrally located to visit Volcanoes National Park, Hilo, farmers market, and local beaches. The water system needs to be upgraded with a better filter as the catchment tank currently leaves the water tasting like mildew. The cooking facilities are great with a nice outdoor patio and grill.

  Comments: Michael's place is much better than I expected. Me and my wife stayed there just two of us, however the place was spacious enough for more than a family with kids. Really enjoyed the lanai with a grill, with a beautifully taken care of garden. Definitely will come back again next time, if available :)
