Comments: Great location in the rainforest, was raining while we were there but the cottage was so cozy and had a great fireplace. The bathrooms were very nice and the beds were comfortable. It is an old home however so be prepared for a little dust and a slight cabin smell. Very relaxing, secluded, and romantic!

Comments: Beautifully appointed home with very interesting details and furnishings. Very private with a beautiful back yard and big outdoor hot tub. 4 minute drive to the volcanoes national park entrance- which is of course the main event in Volcano. But when you're not out exploring the live volcano, this house is the perfect, cozy place to retreat to. Relax in front of the wood burning fireplace, or gaze at the stars from the hot tub, or just sit on the wrap-around porch and enjoy the view of the rainforest. Our 1 and 3 year old daughters also loved their stay here at this beautiful, unique home!

Comments: This house is a health hazard and the owner is unreasonable. My husband and I arrived to the beautiful property after a long day of touring. We were overwhelmed by the odor of old fireplace and mildew, so severe that we needed to leave after 10-15 minutes and notified the owner that we would not be staying there. The furniture and bedding were faded and dusty. My allergies and asthma were so aggravated that I required medical attention upon return to Oahu. We (luckily) were able to secure lodging at a nearby B and B recommended by the state park. The innkeeper stayed late and accepted cash because the credit machine was down for the night. We did not request a full refund of $258, but did ask that "Roxanne" reimburse us for the other lodging ($120). She continued to bombard me with messages, claiming to not receive photos that I sent multiple times. Then requested an invoice from the other B and B (which we had no reason to have as it was impeccable and we paid cash ). We still have not received the partial refund, and likely won't after posting this review. Very poor customer service and I hope she uses the $258 to purchase a deep cleaning and dehumidifier. Save your money and stay at the state park or volcano inn.

Comments: Very well furnished and comfortable. Beautiful location that feels secluded but is conveniently located for touring the park. It was perfect to have a glass of wine in the relaxing hot tub at the end of the day. Very friendly and accommodating host. We will definitely stay here again if we can get back to the islands and we highly recommend it to others.

Comments: Yes! We stayed a week at this beautiful home and loved every minute. The pictures do not do justice to the great natural beauty all around and the impeccable period furnishings and decorations (lots of wood, wicker, and brass, giving a feeling of great luxury). An exceptionally comfy king bed. We enjoyed the hot tub and the fireplace and, especially, proximity to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, which provided hikes enough for more than the time we had. A near drive to Mauna Kea for stargazing and Mauna Loa for hiking, plus just 20 miles or so from Hilo. There's lots of rain, but how else would the green be so green and the birds so happy? Note that it is a short drive (8 minutes or so) to small groceries and cafes, and the property, while having other residences in the area, is quite secluded-feeling, especially at night. We brought groceries and toiletries (not really provided) with us from the Kona side. Highly recommend this memorable spot!

Comments: What a magical place to stay. The cottage was charming and the beds were very comfortable. The garden was like paradise, rain or shine. Sitting on the back lanai with a cup of coffee was an ideal way to start the day. We did plenty of exploring, but I would have been content to sit on the lanai all day looking out at the spectacular garden, watching the trees move in the breeze, and reading.

Comments: Roxane offered an amazing space in volcanos beautiful ohia rainforest with exceptional customer service. The anthurium, ginger and ohia landscaping rich with song birds and nature surrounding the house was lush, peaceful and mesmerizing. The house was clean, stocked with everything we needed and furnished very will with neat furniture and accessories. My favorite part about the place was how much glass doors there were that we could leave open when it was raining and let in natural light. Can’t wait to stay here again!

Comments: This house was clean and beautiful and just as pictured. The gardens surrounding the house were just gorgeous. Two things to note about this place. It has three bedrooms, each with their own bath. Two of the bedrooms are in the main house, one of the bedrooms is in a detached structure. Perfect if you want a lot of privacy. The next thing to note is that it can get quite cold at this elevation (3500 feet). The only heat is from small space heaters in the bedrooms, and a fireplace in the living room, which is pretty smoky. So bring warm clothes and your fire building skills!

Comments: Roxane’s jungle home was a wonderful place to stay while visiting volcanoes national park. The home was better than advertised. Spacious, well decorated, in a lush and quiet jungle setting. The beds were comfortable and each bedroom had an adjoining bathroom with jacuzzi tub. The hot tub was a great place to relax after a days hiking. The Jagger museum, with its view of the caldera, was a ten minute drive from her property. Roxane responded quickly to last minute questions and requests. Our only regret was that our activities left little time for sitting on the porch to enjoy her beautiful property. We would definitely recommend others to stay in her jungle home!

Comments: The house is like a log cabin in the middle of the woods. You are surrounded by tree ferns and anthuriums. It’s very peaceful and quiet. A great place to relax after hiking in the volcano national park. Every bathroom has a jacuzzi tub, and there is also a large hot tub outside. The host was great. Roxane is very quick to respond to any messages. If you use the third bedroom, it’s attached to the carport. You have to go outside and walk about 20 feet to the entrance. It’s great for some privacy if you have adult guests, but you might not want to sleep young kids there alone.

Comments: We had a great stay at Roxane’s place. Great location & back away from Noise. It allowed you to feel like you were in the Rainforest or Jungle even more. Hot tub was amazing & the star gazing out in the open was fantastic. House felt very homie & fireplace was a plus. Lots of amenities to offer. Def Recommend checking it out. Thanks Roxane.

Comments: Loved staying here! Third bedroom felt like our own private bungalow. Enjoyed the fireplace, comfy couches and big dining table. The hot tub was luxurious after long days exploring. Hosts communication was always immediate and positive. It does get cool at night, each room is provided with a portable heater. The flowers in each room topped off a great visit.

Comments: We were unfortunately sick when we stayed a the lovely Anthirium Cottage, or was it fortunate? Both my husband and I needed plenty of rest and down time, as we worked our way through an illness, but staying at Anthirium Alii Gardens was a wonderful retreat and respite from the rest of the world, its like everything else melted away. Once we realized that the adventures we had planned trekking around Volcano were not to be had, and that we would spend our time simply soaking in the healing, green space that we were in, our whole outlook changed. From our time at Anthirum Alii Gardens.. Aloha! Waking up here in Volcano National Park, surrounded by the rainforest to start my 55th year off is truly amazing. I am surrounded by this green, healing light of the forest and the sound of the tropical birds and rain on the tin roof, there is not another soul to be seen or heard. The forest is so deep here; its layers repeat with Fiddlehead Ferns, ‘ōhi‘a Trees, and Anthirums until your eye can't distinguish anymore. Our drive around the remote and windy south point of Hawaii yesterday brought us to this wonderful spot, The Anthirium Alii Gardens, in Volcano. As we entered the home from the private driveway, just a short distance from the crater, we were stunned and breathless seeing the surroundings we would get to enjoy. We spent our mornings eating Macadamia Nut Cookies and drinking Coffee in front of the fire, or in the vast hot tub, or sitting on the veranda overlooking the garden. We listened to the continuing lull of the rain and birds, a little bit of heaven in this most remote part of the earth, for sure. I was taking in the last of the days light overlooking the expansive rainforest garden while sitting on the veranda of this magical sanctuary when I finished writing this... I am enjoying the seranade of all the birds, the comfortable coolness of the humid rainforest air. There is not an unlikeable sound to be heard; no cars, horns, chainsaws, dogs or people barking...pure unadulterated blissful peace. No light (Website hidden by Airbnb) all. I look forward to once again sleeping amidst all of this tranquilty, waking in the morning to the birdsong and lush greenery, making a nice strong cup of coffee in the morning to enjoy out on the veranda in my PJ's. I highly recommend this peaceful place if you ever come to Volcano National Park, its big enough for six people, has a wonderful, large hot tub surrounded by the forest, plenty of seating and cooking utensils, a wonderful fireplace that we shared our meal in front of. Its a place to connect and restore. You will feel as though you are in your own private Polynesia. Maybe if you are lucky, as I was, you will get a visit from the Pheasants in the morning while you enjoy the quiet of the forest and the simplicity of...

Comments: We stayed in the main cottage, which is beautifully furnished and decorated. The grounds are also spectacular. The house is cool but humid, but that was not unexpected given the location in the midst of a rainforest. The only time we minded the humidity is when we had trouble getting our fire started due to the moist wood (even after bringing it inside to try to dry it out). The outdoor hot tub is spacious, stayed hot, and had powerful jets. There were thoughtful touches left to welcome us- including a coffee/tea bar with Kona coffee, and large jugs of filtered water in the fridge. The place was exactly what we were looking for, and we were sad to leave!

Comments: With an incredible location just outside the park, this cottage served us well. We enjoyed the porch, the beautiful yard, the peaceful neighborhood, and the free coffee provided. Beds are very comfortable, the hot tub is a fabulous 104 degrees, and there are plenty of towels. Bring bug spray during the shoulder seasons when mosquitoes can be annoying (there aren't screens on the doors either and very few windows). It is a little dusty/musty so if you have allergies, you might want to know that.

Comments: This home has great location for those wanting to visit Volcanoes National Park. But the best part is the home itself, smack in the middle of a rainforest jungle. One morning we looked out on the grass and there was a flock of pheasants! The home looks like the set of a 1930’s movie, with gorgeous wooden furniture, old books and many thoughtful decorating touches. It is romantic in a vintage way. In fact, I would love the exact living room in my own house! More importantly, Roxanne is a wonderful owner who kept in touch with us throughout the drama surrounding the recent volcano activity, which is too far away to affect conditions at this rental. She kept in contact with us every couple of days, calming our somewhat unfounded concerns, and offering many helpful suggestions. We enjoyed our stay and experience very much!

Comments: There is a lot to like about the Volcano house, particularly the beautiful yard and the hot tub. The house is nicely decorated but it is also very dark inside and it didn't help that a number of light bulbs were burned out. Given VNP's extended closure there are very limited options for dining and activities, with Hilo being the closest place for groceries. My wife and son were particularly unnerved with the repeated earthquakes that we felt at the house due to the ongoing eruptions. We have never felt earthquakes before and it was kind of alarming. The house could use some work. The outside of the house is covered in cobwebs and the deck on one side of the house is unusable. Also, the third bedroom is in another building next door which may not be convenient if you have younger children. We would have been far better off staying in Hilo which is where we ended up spending most of our time.

Comments: Roxanne's place is beautiful, relaxing, and comfortable. We had a fantastic time. Plenty of room for four adults in the main house. Kitchen was fully stocked and even had a salad spinner! Roxanne sent us regular updates and tips prior to our stay. We found plenty to do even with the park closed. She was always quick to respond to any questions. We enjoyed the hot tub after long days hiking and seeing the sights. The house is easy to get to but very private and secluded. You are in the middle of the rainforest, surrounded by nature and bright stars on a clear night. One of the best Airbnb places we have ever stayed at!

Comments: This is a really unique property to stay. Has the feeling of a well-loved family cottage, yet filled with an eclectic mix of furniture and artworks. The gardens are a lush backdrop of green. We visited while the National park was closed due to volcanic activity, but this did not deter us from staying, as for us, it was the coolest part! We experienced the earth shifting and shaking, at times it was like standing on a wobble board, which was quite incredible - The ground vibrations felt in the area are from the caldera collapsing. It did take us a day to get used, as at first we didn't fully understand what the shaking was all about. However, if you get chance to chat with one of the rangers set up in three locations near the park (one was in the Volcano art center during our stay) they explained exactly what was happening with the volcano, so from there we just enjoyed the ride experiencing Mother Nature at work! The hot tub is also lovely and on a clear night, the stars are beautiful to enjoy. If you are lucky enough to be there on a Sunday, take a stroll over to the farmers market. It starts at 6 am and most goodies are gone in the first hour, so get up early!!! We didn't get there till after 8, but it was still a nice stroll and very local experience.

Comments: What a lovely surprise! A peaceful retreat with an old world feel. We had booked way in advance with the plan to visit Volcanoes National Park. Well, Kilauea had other ideas... Nonetheless, the experience was great. We visited the black sand beach at Punalu'u (with many, many sea turtles) and the outstanding botanical garden just north of Hilo. In between, we enjoyed the cool, lush surroundings back at the house. On a practical note, the house is well away from the active eruption zone and not in the path for vog or ash. There is essentially no discernable effect at the house from Kilauea except that every once in a while there is a bit of vibration if there is some slumping over at the Kilauea crater.
