  Comments: Bernadette and Fred were excellent hosts - warm, friendly and welcoming. Correspondence before our visit was great and instructions to the property were clear. The property itself was perfect - we couldn't have asked for more. Our area and the communal areas were spotless and we felt very comfortable in Bernadette and Fred's home. The house is stunning and views are beautiful, and it worked so well with our own living room, bathroom, bedroom and separate entrance. We couldn't have asked for a better experience!

  Comments: Bernadette and Fred are fantastic hosts! Warm and welcoming, we felt very comfortable in their home. The 1-bedroom level is beautiful, comfortable, and private. Communications with Bernadette were frequent and clear. She was very flexible and patient with our scheduling issues. Buses into the city are frequent but do check the return trip as we took a long time getting back due to bad planning. Overall, we had a lovely stay and wished we could have stayed longer. Bernadette and Fred are wonderful. And their dog, Bilbo is just pure love. I could write so much more to recommend this place but will leave some of the wonder of discovery to you when you book this place.

  Comments: I had a great time staying at this beautiful house. Bernadette and Fred are very pleasant and hospitable people and couldn't have been more helpful and accomodating. Their house is lovely, comfortable and clean - 100% corresponds to the description. To tell the truth, the reality was even better than expected: cozy bedroom, big living room, bathroom and separate entrance. Three words best suited to describe this accomodation: hospitable, comfortable, private. I loved everything about it and will stay there whenever I go to Sydney.   Comments: Our stay at Malabar was comfortable. Bernadette and Fred welcomed us on the first night, and gave us the freedom to come and go as we pleased after that. The neighborhood was spectacular. We were a little surprised that there was no view of the coast from our rooms. All in all we had an enjoyable stay.

  Comments: ich habe mit 2 freunden bei bernadette uebernachtet. die begruessung war sehr herzlich und wir haben uns gleich willkommen gefuehlt. unser appartement war sauber, grosszuegig und gemuetlich eingerichtet. die kueche durften wir mitbenutzen und der ausblick aus dem wohnzimmer ist atemberaubend! wir hatten einen seperaten eingang und auch die moeglichkeit unsere waesche zu waschen. malabar ist eine ruhige wohngegend, aber der bus nach sydney faehrt direkt vor der tuer ab. bernadette und fred sind sehr nette gastgeber und wir wuerden sofort wiederkommen.

  Comments: Bernadette was away when we stayed, but her husband Fred made us feel very welcome and was a great host (Bilbo their dog was also very friendly!). The house is beautiful, in a stunning location, clean and tidy, has everything you need including use of washer/ dryer. They also provided lots of useful information on Sydney and the surrounding area and were helpful in giving advice on how to get to places.

  Comments: We stayed in a separate part of the house which had a bedroom, bathroom, and living room. It was clean and tidy, very cosy, and comfortable. There were magnificent views of the sea upstairs in the kitchen. The hosts (Fred and Bernadette) were friendly and made us feel welcome. Malabar is quiet with almost a village atmosphere and the house is beautifully situated close to the beach, ocean pool, golf club and the beach cafe. The accommodation was clean, comfortable and easy to access. We very much enjoyed our stay and Bilbo (the dog) definitely won my daughter's hearts! Thanks Bernadette and Fred!

  Comments: The apartment was very roomy, great position and comfortable. The new kitchen makes it totally self contained and the sunroom was a delightful bedroom for our daughter. I especially appreciated that she had gone to the trouble of providing all public transport information, including a map of the nearest stops and timetables, also details of nearby eateries. The apartment is lovely, clean, comfortable , had more than everything we needed and is in a very peaceful neighbourhood. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, would not hesitate to recommend to friends and family - fantastic as a base for exploring Sydney and for daytrips to Hunter Valley, Blue Mountains etc. but without the hussle bussle of the city.

  Comments: Fred was nice enough to give me a quick tour of the unit and was very friendly and helpful. The apartment was nicely appointed, very spacious, very comfortable, and the kitchen is literally brand new. There is a gorgeous sitting area in the front of the apartment with views of Long Bay that is drenched in morning sunlight. The bed and linens were all clean and very comfortable and generous amounts of soap and towels (as well as beach towels) were provided. Malabar is a fantastic quiet community out of the hustle and bustle of Sydney that I spent the most time in and enjoyed the most. I highly recommend checking out Little Bay as well as a fantastic swimming or snorkeling place. Can't say enough good things about the hosts, property, or location. Would stay again without reservation!

  Comments: Fred met us upon arrival and explained everything we needed to know about the unit, which has everything we needed. A plate of lovely homemade slice made by Bernadette was on the kitchen bench for us! The local area is quiet and beautiful, with the beach only across the road and a corner cafe a short walk away for coffee, breakfast or casual dinner.

  Comments: My parants and i couldn't ask more for our pleasant stay in Bernadette's beautiful house. This definitely will be our best memory of sydney. Everything was just perfect. From the welcoming cookie to farewell fruit salad ...Bernadette is so nice and that we do feel a bit sad we didn't have the chance to know her better. She provided more than we need , the kitchen is almost brand new ! We cooked and just felt we had a home in sydney ! The suit is so spacious and comfortable that i could stay for the whole day doing nothing. But sitting in my sun room watching the breath taking view from the window. We spent a lot of time on the beach and walked up to the golf club. We didn't swim but still there is a nice pool from where you can see far into the great ocean. There is even dive boat every friday for people to go diving ! It is close to everywhere. Less than 15 minutes drive to city and almost 1 hour drive to all the southern attractions. Lots of stores ,restaurants nearby , can get coffee by 3 minutes walk ! We really had a good time especially this is our first time in australia. So lucky to have Bernadette hosted us. Will come back again for sure. Dear Bernadette , thank you again! Hope you enjoy your tennis and all the best to your family and bilboy !

  Comments: The directions received to find the location and accessing the premises were very helpful and complete. We were met with warm greetings by our host Bernadette upon our arrival. The accommodation was very comfortable and clean with everything supplied that we needed for our stay. Bernadette is a very accommodating and helpful host and helped making our stay very pleasant indeed. The area was very quite and the front room overlooked the water making the experience very peaceful.

  Comments: Fred and Bernadette were excellent hosts, and made our week in Sydney much more enjoyable vs staying in a Hotel. They were there if we needed anything, but also gave us our space. The home is as advertised in their description. Bus service just a few steps from your front door. Strong WiFi signal. You will find that the bed isn't as comfortable as the one you may have at home, but we slept very well with the ocean breeze cooling the apartment. Laundry Room is around back of the Main House so be prepared to walk back and forth to manage your laundry. Beach Cafe nearby is open everyday for Breakfast and Lunch but is only open for dinner on Friday and Saturday from 500-830. Excellent food. Groceries can best be found in Maroubra at Woolies or Coles. There are also freshmarkets and meat shops there as well. Great place to stock up if you are cooking for yourselves. Bus Service. The 399 is the main bus you will use for most trips you make. End of the line is Circular Quay in the CBD with no transfers. Recommend getting an Opal Card to make travel quicker and easier. **TIP** You will need an Opal Card for each traveller, you cannot share them for multiple riders. Airport Travel. Take the 400 to Maroubra near PIcadilly Place and transfer to the 399 Little Bay. $3.50 per person vs $40 taxi ride. Beach Walks. We took the walk from the apartment to Coogee, about 4 miles. Beautiful walk, but the 1st 1/3 of the walk you are cutting across neighborhoods and parks as the boardwalk isn't complete to Malabar yet. Bondi to Coogee was very easy to navigate. You should do both! Overall - We would highly recommend this location for Couples or a small familyon Holiday. You will feel very "local" staying here, but the CBD and action of Sydney is only a 45 minute bus ride away with no transfers. Thanks Fred and Bernadette for starting our Australian tour off with a bang!

  Comments: We have just completed two weeks in Bernadette's wonderful property. We were made very welcome with home made slice, fresh flowers and a happy grin from Bilbo the dog! The accommodation was first class - comfy bed, excellent shower and almost new kitchen. The location is also great with lovely views of the pretty bay from the secluded patio where we had breakfast or morning coffee on many mornings. All in all, we would say this was one of the best Air B&B's we've used - and we've used it quite a bit both here and in Europe. Highly recommended.

  Comments: Bernadette's instructions on how to get there were easy to follow and accurate. We arrived to find chocolate slice on the kitchen table and juice in the fridge. The apartment was very well-appointed and suited our needs perfectly. The location was fantastic with views across Little Bay. We have 3 young boys who were itching to get down to the beach. Fortunately for us, even though nearly all of Sydney's beaches were closed the weekend we were there due to large swells, Malabar Beach was protected form the weather so we were still able to swim. Malabar is a quiet suburb, away from the usual hubbub of Eastern Suburb beaches. We plan on returning soon for our next Sydney weekend.

  Comments: My husband & I spent an enjoyable 4 nights recently at this property which is well presented & spacious with self catering facilities. Our lovely hostess Bernadette presented us with a plate of yummy chocolate slice, juice, milk & fresh flowers. Excellent location with great views of the water. A short walk to the rock pools, bus stop (bus goes to Circular Quay every 1/2 hr) & the Beach cafe which serves reasonably priced delicious meals!

We enjoyed breakfast at the local beach cafe, and swimming in the rock pool,literally across the road. We arrived in the dark,from the airport, tired and disheveled , but were welcomed into this comfortable apartment with minimum of fuss, and awoke in the morning to a view of the sparkling ocean.   Comments: We recently (April 2015) had an amazing time at Bernadette and Fred's place! All communication was prompt and clear and the apartment was well equipped with everything you could need and want. Location was brilliant - beach across the road and ocean pool, walks, cafes and restaurants within walking distance. We had a hire car but public transport stopped right outside and was easy to use for access to the city. Our girls (7yr, 11yrs) had a great time and want to always stay here (we have stayed in the city every other time in the past) but this was a lovely change of pace. Fred offered use of kayaks and was extremely hospitable with local knowledge and suggestions. Bernadette left fresh orange juice and chocolate slice when we arrived and cereal and tea/coffee for breakfast. Apartment has new kitchen and there was nothing extra we needed that was not provided. Thank you so much for a brilliant stay - we will definitely stay again!!!

  Comments: Bernie & Fred's home is stunning, immaculate, with the ocean at their door step - you simply cannot ask for anything more accommodation wise. We thought we knew Sydney pretty well but this area will become one of our favourite new spots. My (then partner and now) wife Karen stayed here with her bridal party as we searched for accommodation that would allow us to be close to where we would marry the next day. Fred greeted us warmly on arrival which included a lovely celebratory champagne bottle, a congratulations card, and the most yummy chocolate slices (that were demolished on sight!) - such a thoughtful touch and greatly appreciated. The accommodation itself was even better than we'd hoped. Immaculately furnished, clean to a tee, very spacious, with super comfy beds and living area - just what you want when you're wanting to chillax inside and out. This was our equal first airbnb experience (Karen stayed here and I was 5 minutes away in other accommodation), and this sets the highest bar for all future bookings. Bernie was really easy to deal with during the booking experience and accommodating and flexible to any particular requests we put forward. Great hosts but even better people. Really, everything you needed was there at your fingertips. We are lucky to have this home captured as the backdrop for several of Karen's "getting prepped" professional photos for the hours leading to our wedding - immortalised forever. Great value, simply couldn't fault it. Thank you!!!

  Comments: We were made to feel very welcome indeed. Bernadette and Fred provided just the right amount of contact. The apartment was excellent, in a most wonderful situation, across the road from the Pacific! The bus stops virtually outside the property which is very convenient during the hours of 7am to 7pm and is a short walk afterwards. It is close to a gold club (with a bistro) and close to the Beach Cafe. Malabar beach is VERY unspoiled and pretty. We were in the area to visit with our son and his family and will definitely return to this property if it is available, on a future visit to Australia.

  Comments: This apartment was very well equipped. The hosts communicated well and we had a very accurate description of how to get there and what to do when we did. Nice little welcome plate of biscuits and some fresh orange juice went down well after our journey. Kitchen, washing machine, dryer, fridge, hot plate all as new and worked well. Shower was brilliant. We found that we didn't need to bring as many things as we did. The location was great with a local café for your morning coffee less than 5 min walk, a park near by for the kids and a great view. Took about 30 min by car to get to the city

  Comments: We booked Fred & Bernadette's lovely apartment for my parents, who stayed one weekend in June. Because we live in the area, it was nice that they were so close to home, and experienced what Malabar-life is like. My mum even went swimming twice in the rock pool! The apartment was great - nicely furnished, in a scenic location and well-heated. They really enjoyed staying there. Breakfast items - tea, coffee, Milo, Vegemite, milk, orange juice and cereals were also provided. We will definitely book their place again if we ever need to!

Fred & Bernadette took the time to provide lots of little items that really made the accomodation feel like a mates home where you drop by - just bring your clothes and relax. Mum (77) found her bed so comfortable she slept through which she doesn't at home. Our hosts were very polite, always responsive in a timely way. We wish we had more time to enjoy the place and the saltwater ocean pool across the road.   Comments: This is really an Ideal home away from home. The apartment is just by the bay and offers great waterfront views. Fred and Benedette are amazing hosts, and in addition to providing excellent suggestions, provided a dossier which had very useful tips on things to see how to get around. The house itself is a 2 bedroom apartment with the second bedroom facing the waterfront, and furnished with a pull out sofa bed. It's in pristine condition, exceptionally clean and very family-friendly. My two kids both under five years old slept all through the night so I know the were comfortable. Ideal location for a quiet stress free holiday.

There were thoughtful touches like cake, juice, coffee, cereal etc ready to help us settle in. We all felt very comfortable in this spacious homely apartment. Buses into the City were easy to use and close by. A quiet, pleasant neighbourhood in an amazing setting. The view of the bay and nearby golf course were outstanding. We only stayed three nights but would happily have stayed longer.

  Comments: On arrival we had a very warm welcome. We were shown around the accommodation which was of an exceptionally high standard. Our welcome pack included tea, coffee, milk and orange juice. Fantastic location, across the road from the bay. And a direct and regular bus route into circular quay. Would highly recommend staying with Fred and Bernadette and if we find ourselves back in Sydney in the future, we would definitely try and stay there again.

The picnic area at the beach includes a large covered play area for the kids and was the perfect back drop for a family catch up. And 10-15 minutes drive form everything in town. I loved it.   Comments: We arrived early from interstate and the apartment was ready for us, Fred was on hand to explain everything and give us some tips on catching the bus. The apartment was exactly as described and the location was fabulous. The beach and sea pool were much utilised as the temperature climbed to 42 degrees, even beach towels were provided, in fact we had everything we needed for an enjoyable stay. Although we travelled to Sydney to see the touristy sites, we found it hard to leave Malabar, the cafe a few minutes up the street and the golf club restaurant meant easy access to good quality meals and coffee.   Comments: We were very warmly welcomed by Fred and Bernadette to their home in Malabar. The self contained apartment was beyond our expectations and our only regret is that we only stayed for 2 nights. Fred was very thorough in his explanation of all the amenities, both in the apartment and around the local area. Bernadette made a lovely slice as a welcome which we enjoyed very much with a cuppa one afternoon. We stayed there to attend a wedding held locally and unfortunately didn't have enough time to fully enjoy the area, or even watch the tv! The mattress was comfortable as were the pillows (very important points for me). A friendly cafe serving breakfast and lunch, and dinner on, I think, Friday and Saturday night, was just a short walk away, probably less than 5 minutes. Good menu and reasonably priced. We didn't get to swim in the bay and we didn't have any need for the children's playground but young families could really make good use of both.   Comments: We were really unlucky with the weather. 48 hrs of torrential rain. So it is a bit difficult to review the area as we just couldn't enjoy the beach or sea pool. However the property was lovely. Very clean and tidy. Very modern and all as you would want to find it Bernadette greeted us and showed us around. Cookies resplendent on the table, fresh orange juice in the fridge. Unless you have a car be prepared, as the nearest useful shop is a bus ride away. Central Sydney is about a 45 minute bus ride away but it doesn't feel that long. If the weather had been kinder I think this would have been a perfect place to explore Sydney from.

As we didn't have a car, we found it a little difficult dining out, as on our last day, both the local cafe and golf club restaurants were closed (a Monday).   Comments: We were visiting our daughter in Sydney and we enjoyed our 16 day’s stay at Fred & Bernadette's place very much. The unit is fully self contained, clean and has everything you need (including wifi, Netflix and laundry possibilities). Malabar is a lovely town with a nice quiet beach, great ocean pool, restaurant overlooking the water (open from Wednesday till Sunday) and a beach cafe (open till 15.30 on Friday and Saturday till 20.30). The bus 399, takes 45 minutes to Central Quay, stops in front of the house and in the evening at a 2 minutes walk. For the bigger shopping centers, as detailed in the welcome book, you can better use a car, smaller shops are on a 10 to 15 minutes walk. Fred & Bernadette were very helpful, thanks for using the opal cards. I highly recommend this place.

Fred/Bernadette provided us with a detailed book on how to get around, where to go for food, best spots in Sydney, and even nearby attractions. They made the arrival process very easy by providing us very good details on how to get to the house. The house itself had a 12/10 view! It really is spectacular to see the coast across the street when you wake up in the morning. The house had plenty of amenities and we did not want for anything. There is a bus that goes directly to Circular Quay in the middle of the CBD so that was very convenient. Altogether, this is the house to stay at if you go to Sydney!

  Comments: A lovely apartment in a residential scenic area. Public transport was near and good during the daytime hours. It was very clean and well equipped with comfortable bed and sofa bed. The room at the front was a little noisy with comings and goings as we used this room with the sofa bed as a second bedroom but it was clean and comfortable. Great laundry facilities with soap powder and a drying area. Well equipped with everything we could possibly need and also little extras were included to make us feel at home. It's right on the coast, with a lovely view from the front and is only minutes walk away from the beach, playground and a lovely cafe. They left us out a highchair, and camp cot, banana bread and fresh juice and milk in the fridge. There were towels for the beach and a few beach toys. What more could you want! The apartment in underneath their house, with side private access. Although the front garden goes straight out onto the street (something that concerned me with small kids), there is actually a gate between your door and the street, so it's safe for kids to mill around out the front of the door whilst you get yourself sorted. The space felt very private and quiet.

The apartment is very homely with everything you need. We have never stayed somewhere with such a breath taking view, simply stunning. It was free and no problem to park our hire car outside. It's about an hour into the city on the bus. There are 2 stops very close by but you will need an Opal card to use these. East Gardens is the local shopping centre where you can stock up in Coles. If we return to Sydney we would not hesitant to re-book this lovely apartment.

We were welcomed with a fresh loaf Banana bread and a bottle of wine that set the scene for 10 great days of sunshine and relaxation. The apartment is directly across the rd from the beach ,with magnificent views. There is an easy walk to the corner cafe that serves great coffee and food., with a fabulous playground across the rd for children or big kids and a golf course at the other end of the rd that has magnificent views up and down the coast. . It has easy access into the city with a close bus stop so we could enjoy the sights around Sydney and then return to our haven. We will be back ☺

  Comments: We spent almost 2 weeks at Bernadette and Fred's place with a 5 years old and without car, and really enjoyed those days. It was very convenient to go to the beach by foot and it was a good beach for a little one. Be aware that depending on weather conditions the beach can be quite dirty, but it is cleaned very regularly so we just had this once. It was easy to take the bus into town: it is not running very often (twice per hour) but it is just on the door step. Same to reach a small shopping center, 10-15 minutes away by bus (+ waiting time). With one change, you reach Maroubra or other beaches or a big shopping center. We cooked in the apartment, no problem for basics. The kitchen is quite new and has enough space. We appreciate the large fridge, freezer and dishwasher. The laundry is to be shared with the owner and you can usually dry the clothes in the sun. We appreciated the big shower, hot and stable temperature and the bathroom in general. The flat is airy even on hot days, except the main sleeping room. We did not need the provided fans. In the sun room you can let the door open and hear the waves at night (but then also a bit of traffic). The sun room couch bed is very soft (flabby?). For one person just ok. But I wouldn't want to share it. We appreciated the moskito nets everywhere. Kitchen and bath were very clean but the floors and shelves could have need a bit more care. Bernadette and Fred were welcoming and very reactive as we had a problem. It was a very nice, laid-back beach accommodation. With possibility to enjoy a few days in Sydney downtown. A good compromise with a child.

I even ventured a swim across the bay and back on a calm water day. We both loved listening to the ocean waves for a week!Very quiet neighbourhood as well. Highly recommend this to others. Be advised, it is a 1 hour bus ride to Sydney CBD.

Bernadette and Fred have prepared a very comprehensive guest book which answers nearly all questions you might have. The apartment has everything most people would need, but we really appreciated the little extras, like Netflix- so we could keep up with our favourite shows while the rain teemed down outside. The bus to the city passes by right outside the unit and there is easy street parking right out front. Negatives? None that we could think of. We wish Bernadette could control the weather!

My Mum, sister and myself had a wonderful time in Sydney enjoying Vivid, the theatre and an NRL game, It was an extra bonus to get a bus directly to Circular Quay on the doorstep. I would definitely stay here again, thanks Fred and Bernadette for a terrific break.

The inside was 100% as described and pictured in the photos. And the view was so EXTRA! We managed to enjoy beautiful sunrises before we headed out. We definitely made the right choice staying there! Not just that, we were welcomed with a pack of Tim Tam, milk and fresh juice on our first day! Talking about the facilities and amenities in the house, they’re all complete. From the shampoos, body wash, to clean towels and hangers. From the variety of cookwares and to coffee powders and a box of teabags. Fred and Bernadette were very accommodating too. There was a day where we run out of body wash and told them about it and when we reached home at night, there’s a new one in front of the door. We were out of the house early in the morning and only be home at 9/10pm. Sadly we couldnt manage to meet Fred and Bernadette to say how thankful we were for a very nice stay in their Airbnb house. Luckily we bumbed into Fred after his morning jog right before we left to airport! He was curious of whether we enjoyed our stay and asked if there is anything that is lacking. Worry not, it was all perfect. Thanks Fred and Bernadette.
