  Comments: Derek's place was rad. He was very chill, kind and helpful. The house was clean, the room was cute and had its own entrance and access to this huge covered deck with lounges and hammock. We took an awesome nap on that porch and also made music! Derek also gave us permission to use all of his water toys including kayak and snorkeling gear which was a big plus for us out of towners. Wonderful and would stay here again!

  Comments: Derek and his roommate Richie we're awesome hosts. Their location private and ideal. Very short distance from the beach, and close to all the things you would need. It was awesome to make you so all of their Beach things like the kayak, snorkel and fins, surfboard, beach towels, and even their beach cruiser bike to get to town. The room was private and comfy and the patio was awesome. Made use of the barbecue and living room area was cozy. Derek was full of recommendations and overall an awesome stay

  Comments: What a perfect first adventure to Hawai'i. Derek and Rich were so amicable and helpful, it felt like we were staying with friends. Everything was clean and lovely. The room has its own private entrance and a beautiful patio with a hammock that we took full advantage of. Sunset beach is literally steps away. They offered up their own water equipment and Derek even recommended the most affordable car rental app ( (Website hidden by Airbnb) which made our stay that much easier. I couldn't have asked for anything better! Mahalo!

  Comments: We stayed for two days at Derek's place. He is a great host and welcomed us with a super friendly aloha. The house and room are clean, comfortable and we felt very save during the stay. We got fresh beach towels, there was a surfboard, a bike, a kayak, wifi, etc... available to use for us! Access to Sunset Beach is just seconds from the House, and if it is raining (one day of our stay), you can enjoy the evening on the balkony deck in front of the room. We can definitely recommend this beautiful place to stay at the north shore of Oahu. Thank you very much Derek, we had a great stay!

  Comments: Nous avons passé 2 nuits chez Derek. C est la 1ère fois que nous essayions la formule "chambre privée" nous étions plus habitués au "logement entier". Mais Derek a été un super hôte. Très accueillant. Présent mais aussi très discret. C est vrai que la douche mériterait un petit peu coup de neuf mais la chambre est très bien. Nous avons pu également utiliser le lave linge et sèche linge ce qui est vraiment super pendant ses vacances. Derek avait pris soin de mettre à notre disposition des serviettes de plage, de bain et même des produits beauté ! L'emplacement de la maison est parfait. Au calme. Vous ne verrez pas la mer de votre chambre mais il y a moins de 2minutes entre la plage et votre lit ! Ce qui reste le principal ! Il y a une super boulangerie à moins de 5 minutes à pieds (Teds Bakery) et un paquets de super foodtrucks à 10min en voiture. Si vous aimez le thaïlandais essayer le food truck Éléphant un vrai régal ! Et bien sûr spot idéal pour les surfeurs !!!! Bref " Enjoy your stay !! "

  Comments: This place is fun and easy and close to everything you'd want on Sunset beach. In short - the best things were new clean towels, the island map on the desk, 2 bikes, deck with hammock, walkscore, very secure feeling location, and obvi the beach access. We had an awesome stay and Derek was very laid back with good energy. The room has a private entrance off the big back deck and was clean and had everything we needed. We used his bikes and there's a fantastic bike trail that's accessed from the neighborhood that will take you to the store, the beach, local restaurants etc. We walked to Ted's for breakfast just around the corner and beach is literally about 100 steps from the house. The neighborhood has a very local vibe, is off the main roads but literally in the middle of tons of stuff in all directions. Derek gave us tips on good places to check out and shared his place - kitchen, living room etc. like an old friend. Definitely recommend :)

  Comments: Derek was amazing! great communication about what to expect, day of arrival and updated info and was a joy to chat with when we did arrive. He was welcoming, fun, easy going, and was so chill he took us out for a drive to show us the shoreline and give tips on what to see the next day, including beaches, hikes, food trucks, etc. We took his advice, and his cruiser bikes he let us use, and had the best day of our entire trip exploring the north short and enjoying this amazing beach house. Hands down I would stay here again and hope to! I recommend this place and Derek as a host to anyone wanting an authentic, chill and enjoyable visit to the north shore.

  Comments: Derek's place filled our needs in every way. The private room was cozy and quiet and the large back lanai was great. The kitchen and bath are shared with Derek and his roommate Rich. They were both friendly and helpful with loads of suggestions as to activities, eateries, etc. There is no view from the home, but none is needed with the proximity to Sunset Beach - a few steps and you are there. We enjoyed the sunset from the beach nearly every evening, and met several locals there. We also took advantage of the bikes and snorkeling gear that Derek had available for our use.

  Comments: We LOVED our stay at Derek's place. It's right on the point with amazing sunsets, Derek was a great host, and even though it was a shared house we felt like we had complete privacy. There were no waves when we were there but we took advantage of the snorkelling equipment and snorkelled everyday. We definitely would stay here again but next time in winter so we can surf!!

  Comments: Derek and his housemate Richie are great! They are both super knowledgeable about fun things to do on the North Shore and around the whole island. I didn't have a car so borrowed the bikes they had and was able to get everywhere I wanted to go on the North Shore. My room was super clean and they have a nice kitchen if you wanted to cook. Make sure you lay in the hammock out on the lanai- it has a great view of the sunset!

  Comments: Derek's house is right across the street from a portion of Sunset beach. That is an appropriate name given that you can actually see the sunset from Derek's porch. The room itself was of decent size. A small table and a closet provide ample space for storage. You have your own screen door onto a back porch with a hammock for two and other beach furnishings. Derek recently added more space to his house. There is a shared bath. But Derek opens his entire house for your use. This was our first experience with Airbnb. And we were caught a little off guard by the fact that Airbnb's do not usually include breakfast. That really didn't spoil anything though. There was a great breakfast bakery within walking distance of Derek's -- I had my first experience there with a Moco loco or is it loco moco. Derek was very informative about places to eat and things to do in the general area. He and his roommate which he were great hosts. So on the last evening we were there, we decided to make dinner for the four of us -- me my wife and Derek and his roommate Richie. To be honest it was the highlight of the stay. We had a few beers (if I say so myself great food). We shared war stories laughed a lot and generally had a great time. All in all Derek and his roommate are great hosts and we recommend them to anybody who wants to have a good time on the North Shore.

Parking is easy (safe neighborhood) and location is right next to beach access. We made great use of the bikes; snorkel gear and back porch! 25 min bike ride to sharks cove for snorkeling and Teds bakery is great for breakfast and is right across the street. Highly recommend!

  Comments: Everything about this place was perfect. Richie was the one to check me into the room/house, and was very kind and hospitable. Derek was great to get to know, and chat with. He was also nice enough to let me know about the damn Turtle Traffic that occurs and when to watch out for it :) Felt like life long friends, and the place was wonderful. Hammock for relaxing & reading, the location was PERFECT. 'Ocean view' was true to its word, and it was beautiful. Kitchen was immaculate and gorgeously remodeled, and the lanai was perfect to enjoy the views and weather. I would HIGHLY recommend staying here, if you are looking to enjoy a lovely stay on the North Shore!!!

  Comments: Having walked/biked/bused all from Derek's to Haleiwa and back, I really can't imagine a better location for all of the things I did. It was just steps from Sunset Beach and a few blocks from Ted's Bakery and the bus stop. I didn't have a car so that was pretty important. Though I only used a provided bike once, I regretted not using it more. It made it so much easier to get to food. (I mostly walked the 2.5 miles to all the food trucks, or over to Ted's.) This was a working vacation, so wi-fi and a nice outdoor spot to work was high on my list of must-haves for the trip. The back lanai was perfect! I was able to work from the hammock and take a brief lunch-time nap there as well. And with a door from the bedroom to the lanai, it was nice to be able to get out there without having to walk through the rest of the house. The room was perfectly comfortable, clean, and included an iron & hair dryer. Derek & Rich were both very friendly and it was good chatting & dining with them. Though it was easily walkable, Derek even drove the 2 blocks to pick me up at the bus stop when it was raining heavily upon my arrival. I'd definitely stay again! I may even go back again for Halloween, their neighborhood really knows how to celebrate. Everyone was dressed up and a lot of the homes were decorated for the holiday.

  Comments: Derek‘s place is one of the most beautiful places we‘ve ever been to. We felt immediately comfortable the moment we arrived. Derek gave us a lot of advices concerning hikes, tours and things to do, furthermore there is a surf board, 2 bycicles, snorkling equipment and fins we could use for free. The kitchen was very well equipped and it was no problem using anything :-) The lanais are just stunning, with a gorgeous view over Sunset Beach and another one facing the backyard and garden. To Sunset Beach it‘s only a 1-2min walk and to Haleiwa it‘s just a short drive by car (ca. 15min). So just the perfect location for spending your time at the North Shore! We can definitively recommend Derek‘s place 100%! :-)

  Comments: I had the opportunity to stay in both rooms in this air BnB and I’m glad I did! My plans changed for the better and it ended up working out better than expected. Derek’s place is AWESOME! The location is right in the heart of sunset beach and is a short distance to all the local beach parks and food trucks. The bikes are great but I also had a car to get around to further places I wanted to check out. Derek is quick with his responses and was able to answer all of my questions. He makes you feel right at home and so welcome from the second you meet him. He also has great advice on good eats and spots to check out. I can’t wait to go back. Mahalo Derek!

  Comments: Het verblijf bij Derek was erg prettig. Je hebt een gemeenschappelijke badkamer en keuken, maar wel een fijne eigen kamer. Aan de kamer zit een soort van groot balkon, wat erg prettig is om meer ruimte te ervaren. Derek was erg gastvrij en ook zijn kamergenoot Ritchie was een goede gast. De locatie is prettig, met fietsen ben je overal zo. Daarnaast is er voldoende parkeerruimte mocht je een auto hebben.

  Comments: No words ... What can I say ... it was ... unbelievable! ;) Derek deserves the title of Superhost. Not a minute passed without Derek worrying about my well-being. I can only recommend the accommodation! The apartment is cozy ... except for the pillows on the couch! ;) There is a super great mega Refrigerator ;) ! And the apartment is only a few steps away from the most beautiful sunsets on the sea I have ever seen. Derek and Richi have made my stay at the North Shore an unforgettable experience. What I also really liked was .... Ted's bakery was within walking distance and I could always get pies. :)

  Comments: My husband and I booked this place, and ended up finding a different place to stay after check in. I somehow misread the listing thinking it was an entire place, but it is just a private room with a shared bathroom- I should’ve looked more diligently. I would recommend this for a single male, but not for a couple or family. The bed size looked like a full. The bed was also not very comfortable and loud. It had a shared bathroom, which was clean- but we wanted a private bathroom. It did smell like his roommate was smoking weed in his room next to the bathroom... Derek was very kind and understanding when we cancelled our stay there about 15 minutes after arriving.

  Comments: Il soggiorno nella casa di Derek & Richi è stato esattamente come ce lo aspettavamo! A due passi dalla spiaggia, dagli splendidi tramonti di Sunset Beach e presso due host davvero gentili e disponibili: semplicemente fantastico! La camera con bagno in comune con l'altra camera ospiti era di dimensione modeste, ma con tutti i confort necessari per qualche giorno di relax nella North Shore. Il parcheggio gratuito sotto casa, la possibilità di usare le differenti attrezzature sport e la cucina/lavanderia sono sicuramente dei punti a favore di questa struttura. Speriamo di tornare di nuovo alle Hawaii & di poter rifare visita a Derek & Richi nella North Shore! Mahalo!

  Comments: I enjoyed my stay at Derek's place it was even better than I expected. The kitchen and living area had been renovated which was a nice surprise. The room was comfortable and clean. Above all Derek and his roommate Rich were extremely kind and helpful, with extensive knowledge of the area as well. If you're looking for an amazing spot steps from the most beautiful beach at north shore and a friendly environment to relax in, than this is definitely the place to be. Mahalo!

  Comments: This was my first experience using AirBNB and I didn’t know what to expect. The listing was as described and in an awesome location. Derek was there at check-in to show us our room and his home. We didn’t spend much time at the house as we spent most of our time exploring the North Shore, but the room was a great place to relax and the deck was awesome to just sit on and relax as well.

  Comments: Derek was a great host for my week in Hawaii. The place is as described and steps away from the sand. The bikes came in very handy to get around town and stay out of the coastal traffic. Derek and Rich were very inviting and laid back which made for a very relaxing stay. The hammock on the lanai was amazing as you can watch the surf and sunset from there. I would definitely stay again!

  Comments: Great place right on the beach with all amenities you need and more! Derek and Richie are great hosts, up for a chat any time or happy to leave you be if that's what you want. So quiet and relaxing there, you may be lucky enough to hear Derek and his mate play the guitar and saxophone together! Great stuff. Would definitely stay again!

  Comments: Derek and Richie were very accommodating and quick to respond to any questions I had. They also had really good insight and travel tips when it came to checking out the area. The house is clean and spacious, with a really large and relaxing lanai to relax on when you’re not out exploring the North Shore. Many of the main beaches are also nearby and very accessible right from the front door. The bedroom was clean and the bed was comfortable as well. From check-in to check-out, everything went smooth and without any hiccups. I’d highly recommend staying here to anyone looking to visit the North Shore of Oahu!   Comments: What an awesome place to get some rest and relaxation. 10sec walk to the beach and a peaceful lanai with multiple hammocks to enjoy the sunshine, peace and quiet of the area. Great amenities exactly as described, was able to use the bike(s) to get around the north shore. Derek and Richie were extremely hospitable, will definitely be staying again!

  Comments: We loved this cute little place. We loved the lenai and the hammocks. It is very blissful just laying on the hammock and resting. You get out of the house and you are in the beach already. Derek and Richie are very friendly. The place is next to some amazing beaches and views in North Shore. Definitely recommend them.

  Comments: Derek’s place was great. It’s right at the beach, and he has many toys for the water (goggles, fins, board etc.). The room is chill and peaceful with a large lanai, and hammock! His hospitality is that of a friends - welcoming. Whether you prefer your privacy or like to mingle the option is yours. Very helpful in all our questions. Well rounded, cool guy.

  Comments: Derek is a great host, friendly and helpful. We were able to use the large kitchen, which was recently remodeled. We were lucky not to have to share a bathroom since the second rental bedroom wasn't rented. Parking was more convenient on the street due to difficulty maneuvering our large car inside the gate. Location was convenient, very close to Ted's Bakery (5 min. walk) and Sunset Beach (10 min. walk).

  Comments: We had a lovely 2 night stay at Derek's but I could have easily stayed longer! The place is really comfortable, in a quiet neighbourhood and right at the end of a beautiful beach. We really enjoyed using the cruisers to explore the local area. We only met Derek briefly as he was going away but he was super friendly and lots of great tips. His flat mate Richie was around and was equally friendly and accommodating. Would definitely recommend this place.

  Comments: Derek’s place was in a great location and he was a great host. A block away from both sunset beach (which you can see from the deck) and Teds Bakery. Had bikes and snorkeling gear that you can use - which was awesome to bike along the north shore biking path and to various hiking/beach/snorkeling locations (such as the pillbox hike, snorkeling at sharks cove, Waimea and sunset beaches). Had a great deck out back and front with hammocks - and you can play with his cute kitten as well! Also had great tips for where to hike and eat. Great stay and would stay again!

  Comments: Derek's place was lovely! Outstanding cleanliness, the room was so cozy with a screen door out to a beautiful porch. It is so close to everything, and a nice neighborhood. Derek was very friendly, so accommodating and patient! He had mask, snorkel, fins, noodles, beach chairs we used. He also has a fridge for guests to use. There were surf boards available too! I would stay at Derek's again and would highly recommend his place to friends. A plus his is sweet kitten Sprocket.

  Comments: Derek was a fantastic host. He is very pleasant and courteous. I spent most of my time in the hammock, enjoying the sounds of this beautiful island. A hurricane warning happened to be coming when I was there and he made sure to keep me updated and safe. I traveled alone and didn't know what to expect but I never felt insecure about my accommodations. I would recommend this place to anyone who wants to be close to the beach, relax in a hammock on the lanai, or take advantage of the surf.

  Comments: Amazing place with super chill hosts (plus a cute kitty). The house is surrounded by huge deck/lanai that I found myself spent most of my time there when I wasn’t out exploring. You can outlook the sunset beach from the front deck! Derek and Rich are very friendly and helpful. There are bikes, snorkeling gears, and boards to use. Nothing can beat the easy and short access to the beach. Will def come back! Thanks!!

  Comments: We really liked Derek and his roommate! Great guys! Prime location in north shore Oahu and they have equipment like snorkling stuff and paddle boards you can borrow. Few things I was a little disappointed with is the two rooms.”, bathroom and fridge that are for Airbnb guests are a little unkept and not as appealing to the eye and for the price point, I expected a little more. Luckily for us we didn’t have to share the bathroom but normally they say the bathroom is shared which was another thing I wasn’t expecting. Just needs a few nicer touches to make it feel more welcoming and maybe some touch ups to maintain the Airbnb.

Perfect location literal steps from beach, amazing house/room/patio/kitchen, everything your Hawaii trip should be. Can’t say thank you enough for the genuine kindness and hospitality.   Comments: This place is great. Exactly as billed and more. The room is tight, private, and all you need. The house is clean and open. There are decks behind your room looking at at the mountain (with hammock) and in front (with hammock) overlooking sunset through the trees. I was lucky enough to be there when it was 3-5FT (not 10-15) so quite enjoyed the surf but if I was there on a big day would have had front row seats.

  Comments: Derek's place is the perfect getaway on the north shore. Very close to the beach, where you can spot surfers in the sunset. Ted's bakery is just around the corner and you can take the bikes for easy access to places like the pipeline or food trucks for a delicious dinner. Sleeping with open windows facing the garden the breeze in the jungle leave put us to sleep.
