Comments: Steve was extremely accommodating and friendly. Location, location, location. If you are looking for a simple place to put your bags down and sleep and be in the middle of it all, this is it. Beach, marina, restaurants, Waikiki, Ala Moana, so many things to do and a great price to be in the middle of it all.

Comments: It was amazing stay! Nice house, perfect location and Steve with his housemate were really friendly. We enjoyed our stay! Thank you

  • Reviewer: Christina

Comments: I stayed with Steve and the boys for 3 days and they're so helpful and welcoming. The room/house had what I needed to have a comfortable stay. This is one of the few places where I've stayed where I had a door into my room I could lock. The place was clean and the kitchen had what I needed. It was in walking distance to the beach, buses, loads of shops and restaurants.

Comments: Steve was fantastic. My friend & I were unable to get to Steve's place until approximately 6pm. Therefore, Steve liaised with us via cell phone so he could meet us when we arrived & welcome us. He was open & friendly toward us and basically left us to do our own thing after giving us the run down of his place. However, he did tell us if we needed anything else, just to ask him for his assistance & he will more than happy to help.

Comments: Steven est un hôte très sympathique. Endroit bien situé avec une location de vélo, sympa pour visiter Honolulu. Chambre basique mais nous avions tout ce dont nous avions besoin! Merci!

Comments: Steve was great! If you're looking for a true local experience in a convenient location, this place is for you.

  • Reviewer: Jessica

Comments: Steve was very friendly! He knows the island well and is happy to answer your questions or provide suggestions. It's very convenient that he also rents bikes/mopeds from just outside the house, so that option is always open if you don't have a car. My friend and I stayed for almost a week, and at the end he even drove us to the airport! The house is old but cozy. During our stay, there were 2 males staying in another room and both were very friendly (and willing to help us kill cockroaches). There are tons of cats always hanging out around the front door and lawn and it's adorable.

Comments: Steve was a great host! Very friendly and very open to assist us with our stay in Honolulu. The amenities were as promised and with such late notice/reservation, his place worked out great.

  • Reviewer: Ben

Comments: The host canceled this reservation the day before arrival. This is an automated posting.

  • Reviewer: Jazmin

Comments: Steve was very friendly coming into the house and flexible about check-in! The room was very clean and close in proximity to many eateries and shops. A cozy room for our short stay for the 4th of July made it a unique and local experience we enjoyed.

  • Reviewer: Juliet

Comments: We stayed for one night. Steve is very friendly and the room was clean.

  • Reviewer: Conrad

Comments: My first two nights with Steve were totally fine. The final night, multiple men approached our residence and began pounding on the door demanding that Steve give them money and goods. They clearly had a relationship and it was some sort of deal gone wrong. Steve went outside and clearly there was a violent and screaming interaction between all of them. The men came back multiple times throughout the night, while I barricaded myself in my bedroom pretending to not exist while Steve was using a power drill to either make something or put boards over his window for protection. The police may have come throughout the night, I couldn't tell. I eventually snuck out at 5am once everything had calmed down and stayed on the beach the rest of the morning. I would not recommend anyone stay here.

Comments: Steve is a very friendly and laid back guy. Location is great, because is close to Waikiki. The bedroom and bathroom were clean. It's a great affordable place in Waikiki.

  • Reviewer: Nuntiya

Comments: Steve is easy to communicate with. The place is convenience to commute. The room is so small but worth for the price. It is very afforadable.

  • Reviewer: Leanna

Comments: Steve was a great host. He was kind and made sure we had everything we needed. His place is also walking distance from almost everything. That was really great because we didn't rent a car and walked everywhere.

  • Reviewer: Jennifer

Comments: Thanks Steve for being super chill and accommodating. He is easy to talk to, gives great tips about the local area, and in general has great communication; he does his best to make himself available to us, and made that clear as well. The place is walking distance to the Ala Moana center outdoor mall, Ala Moana beach park, and Magic Island (I love to watch the sunset there, and parking there is free!!). He also feeds the cats that lives in the streets, they are all adorable.. He runs a moped rental business, so there are many bikes and parts and moped stuff there basically. Note that if you get a rental car, there is a $10 per night charge for the car, much cheaper than every other place that offers overnight parking. The washer requires $1.50 in quarters to be operated, dryer is free; Steve showed us how to use both of them. The AC in the room is a life saver. The fridge in the room is super cold, which is awesome. Some of the water placed up on the top shelf had some ice in it which was nice. It's a small, carpeted place (no shoes in the house! I liked that) and is for people on a tight budget. It will probably do you well to bring ear plugs, which I always do wherever I go. Note also there is another room that perhaps he is renting out, so you may have some company besides Steve himself. I will definitely check his place out again in the future when I visit again!

Comments: Steve is one of the best host's I have met. He even helped me with my mom who can be a handful. Thanks again Steve!

  • Reviewer: Maureen

Comments: Steve was very welcoming and hospitable. Very convienent location to downtown Waikiki. Steve offered $10 parking at the house which was super convienent and let us keep an extra car there our last night free of charge. The other guests staying at the house were also friendly and easy to talk to.

  • Reviewer: Tanja

Comments: Flat is pretty good located, close to Waikiki and even in all directions direct to the highway. The room is pretty the same as picture showes - small but absolutely sufficient. Flat was very clean. Unfortunately there was not that much consideration regarding loud music/TV very early or late...

  • Reviewer: Veronica

Comments: Steve was a helpful host- very willing to accommodate and offer advise. Great deals on scooter rentals were an added bonus! The house was very clean as well which was lovely.

Comments: Place was cool n cozy....and Steve was a great host.... n I'll stay there again....anything I needed he helped out

  • Reviewer: Torin

Comments: Steve was a real legit dude, straight from the get go he made us feel welcome and comfortable after a 10 hour long flight from Australia. The room is pretty small, but hey, your in downtown Hawaii, what the hell are you doing hanging out in your room anyway. It's a short walk to the postcard beach scenes that Honalulu is well known for. It's an even shorter walk though, to the Foodland at Ala Moana shopping centre. And trust me, if there is any place your gonna want to be, it's at the Foodland. I'm talking fresh Poke bowls, Chicken drumsticks, in house baked donuts, Sushi and there is even a bar there if your feeling a little thirsty from your travels. If you want to see a little bit more than whats just around within walking distance. You can hire a moped or a scooter from Steve. And he can also give you some great local knowledge on where to go and what to check out. I would definitely stay here again and recommend to anyone traveling to Hawaii.

Comments: Steve’s place was perfect for our trip. The location is great and the house had everything we needed. The room is small, but the beds are comfortable and the wifi is fast. We had a great stay. Mahalo!

Comments: Steve was very nice and helpful with finding places around the city. I was surprised I was paying for both of the bunk beds.. for some reason I thought it was just one... Had the room to myself. Warning he does have a lot of cats though so it does smell like cats... Good experience overall. Thanks Steve

Comments: This is a great location and the host is very nice. However, may not be a good place to stay if you have a rental car, as there is no place to park. Ultimately I had to go elsewhere to a backup option due to this. (I rented a car.)

  • Reviewer: Joseph

Comments: Steve accommodated us on short notice for a night. The room is small but fine for two if they are friends or a couple. Wifi is good and fast. Nice air conditioning and a clean bathroom that's larger than we expected as well. Mini-fridge is also a bonus! Extremely convenient to Waikiki and Ala Moana mall and Hawaii Convention Center. Lots of dining options around. May not be appropriate for kids due to the nightclubs in the vicinity. Note - Those with cat allergies should bring medication. There are several cute ones around, although not necessarily inside. Thank you, Steve!

  • Reviewer: Inge

Comments: Perfect central accommodation. You get exactly what you are promised. Steve is and super friendly host who helps you and answers your question with a smile to ensure your stay will be at your satisfaction.

  • Reviewer: Cisco

Comments: Location is GREAT, 5 minutes away from Ala Moana Center, Don Quijote and next to the Convention Center. Room is small, but is great for the price. Nice TV with direct TV and mini fridge in the room. The room is a little hot during daytime and Window AC can't keep up, but it works great during PM hours. Not recommended for people with cat allergies, although there are no animals inside, there are a handful of cats outside the property and the smell can come through the windows. Perfect for budget travelers for bed and store luggage!!! There are other tenants living in the house and share the same bathroom, there was even someone sleeping in the living room, but it is separated by a room divider and did not bother me at all.

  • Reviewer: Charles

Comments: It's a room with a bed. Nothing special. Get what you pay for.

  • Reviewer: Renato

Comments: Perfect if you want to save money. The room is small, but it is cozy and has cable TV and air conditioner. The house is well located, next to Ala Moana beach and mall, and to the convention center. Also, it had easy access to bus leading to other relevant parts of the island. I did not meet Steve because he was travelling, but his friend Koosh (sorry I don't know if it is correctly spelled) was very friendly and helpful. It was a nice week :)

  • Reviewer: Sunny

Comments: Great value! The location is perfect, walking distance to Waikiki and public transportation. If you have a fear of spiders, there were a handful of small spiders in the room/apt but they are harmless! The roommates are kind and provided good advice. I recommend this place for the location, quick communication, and value!

  • Reviewer: Rebecca

Comments: Great value! Excellently located right across from the Convention Center, groceries, convenience stores, a mall, and close to Waikiki Beach. A little sketchy around the immediate neighborhood. Steve is very welcoming, and the place is small but well-kept. The AC was a welcome relief as well.

Comments: The loctation is awesome and really cheap price to stay here. Facilties are all okay. They were so nice to us. One problem we faced is that there was no reply from host, but if you just go to the address, they welcome you.

  • Reviewer: Adrienne

Comments: This is a great deal of you are tight on money and want to be in the city. It is a 20 min drive from the airport and 10 min drive to the Waikiki Shell/beach. Comfy bed. Clean bathroom.

Comments: Great for budget travelers. Centrally located. The bus stops are nearby that will take you anywhere on the island. Carpet is clean. Good price for near waikiki lodging.

Comments: Steve was a generous host and very welcoming. the house was clean, safe and he provided the necessities. All around good guy. Thanks Steve

  • Reviewer: Adrian

Comments: Great value if you want to be close to a lot of places to eat. Very quiet inside the home and the room feels like a little hotel room. The tenant was very welcoming as well. Books last minute too which is nice.

  • Reviewer: Ashok

Comments: Steve was a great host, and had a prime location for exactly what's described - a shared home with a private room. I spent little time in the home and a lot of time exploring, since there was lots of stuff within walking distance.

  • Reviewer: Kimberly

Comments: Great place to crash for the night. Wouldn't want to stay more than that though. You should know that use of the microwave requires all air conditioning units to be turned off first.

  • Reviewer: Edward

Comments: Unfortunately my flight was delayed many hours bc of snow in Seattle and i didn't get to Steve's place until after midnight, & i had to leave just after 7am the next morning for a meeting, so i didn't get a chance to enjoy the place much. But i was able to get in and get to bed quickly, and get ready in the morning. Location is _very_ close to the convention center. There was a fridge in the room, a kitchen in the house, but i couldn't tell you too much more bc i was in and out, sorry i can't be much more help

  • Reviewer: Katie

Comments: It was ok. I was nervous upon arrival for a few reasons: lack of communication, and the surprise two other (male) residents. Steve answered my question when I booked, more than a month before the trip. However, when I tried to confirm a week before and ask about parking, I received no response. I decided to risk it and keep the booking because it was so conveniently located to my conference. I also received no response when I texted upon arrival at the airport. Check-in turned out to be fine, because the other residents were there, but it would have been nice, and normal, to have had communication with the host. The other residents were nice and helpful, but at first I was nervous about the surprise of staying with three men. It was pretty clean inside, even if the appearance outside would lead you to think otherwise. The room was fine with clean linens and towels, and the A/C was nice to have. There is a lock on the bedroom door, and there is a key so you can lock when you leave. I lost some sleep on the first night because there is a club just across the street, and a parking lot just outside the bedroom window. Bring ear plugs. Some other positives: very good price for Honolulu, 10-15 minute walk to the Ala Moana Beach Park (less crowded than Waikiki, which is a few miles away). Bus stops nearby. 5 minute walk to the Ala Moana hotel, where I picked up airport/tour shuttles. Residents were nice and helpful once there. But, communication! Airbnb-ers want communication!

  • Reviewer: Michael

Comments: Great for the Value, Host is super helpful. Everything was as expected! Also great location for walking around the downtown. I didn't mind as I grew up in the city but gets a little noisy at night. Did not bother me but I could see light sleepers having a problem.

  • Reviewer: Sarah

Comments: This place is on the outskirts of town, really easy to get around. Had a few issues checking in trying to get keys etc. We left our stuff inside in the lounge room, We came back later to an empty house (didnt have keys) and couldnt get any of our stuff. We had booked a Luau for that evening and couldnt get in to change or shower. When we arrived later that evening one of the other guys living in the house let us in. The room is as pictured. Top bunk is a tad broken too. Its cheaper than everything else around but probably for a reason.

Comments: Great for those who are looking for a no frills space to stay, and would be roaming around Honolulu most time of the day. It's at the center of everything - transpo, mall, Waikiki. It is near the redlight district that might not be okay for some, but personally I don't have issues with it. It might be a bit uneasy to roam at night, but you'd be fine with Steve. Steve is a kind host. You'd like him :) It's $33 away from the airport. Aloha!

  • Reviewer: Matthew

Comments: Room was as pictured and worked out as we only needed a place to sleep for a 1 night stay. Location was convenient. Less than a mile to the beach or to downtown Waikiki. Outside entry way smells of cat urine and many cats seen walking around parking lot. Lots of miscellaneous stuff inside and outside the house making it seem crowded. Overall, the stay was good for 1 night since we just needed the place to sleep and store our luggage.

  • Reviewer: Matt

Comments: Central location, can be noisy at times but that's about the only negative. Inside is clean

  • Reviewer: Anthony

Comments: Needed a place to stay in town that was affordable, and this place satisfied everything i needed: a place to sleep and shower. Great place for a great price if you simply need a place to crash for a few nights

  • Reviewer: Marcia

Comments: Read the reviews. They are pretty accurate. This is a home occupied by a great guy, Steve. The general living spaces are cluttered—clearly a man cave run amok. But, knowing that I would stay here again. Once I knew there were cameras surrounding the area (as it is a bit sketchy) I felt more comfortable walking around solo. But, I am Not a night owl and would never stay out late partying and walk back alone. The location otherwise is dynamite—walk everywhere-to beach, Ala Moana where you can catch a bus anywhere around the island. I walked to the Hawaii Art Museum three times- great exercise and a fun place to hang out, have a wonderful lunch, take tours to Shangri-La, etc. I never used the kitchen to cook. It was so easy to go to the food court at Ala Moana or ??? so many options. Steve's place is definitely nothing fancy—bunk beds (I rented the room for myself) but, there is a little refrigerator, TV, Wifi. Sheets and towels were clean. No shoes allowed in the house. Take advantage of this spot. It can't last forever as developers gobble up such prime locations!

Comments: This was an amazing value. I selected it based on price, proximity to the conference center and safety. All my expectations were met. The location is less than half a block from the convention center. I had reviewed previous guest comments and understand what to expect. The location is on a street that still has original residences, with the surroundings having been taken over by services and buildings catering to a convention/tourist crowd. The street is a bit run down....and on first glance sketchy. BUT...the area was safe and within one block to bus directly into Waikiki. The other direction, few blocks is high end shopping with bus to other venues including airport. And location is three blocks from Don Quiote where one can buy food and anything else needed. The room, bathroom and kitchen were very clean. Other areas...clean but cluttered, but presenting no concern. I am not a cat person and the cats were not expecting any petting or interaction so that worked out fine. If one is a white glove, chocolates on the bed with turn down service kind of person, do not book. But if one is enjoying of life and has basic needs....go for it. Host- Steve was gracious and considerate. Would stay again.

Comments: Communication with Steve was very good even if he wasn‘t at home. Room looks the same as on the photos but was very small and uncomfortable. A/C is very loud. Location is good for walking distances to shops and restaurants and beach, but very noisy at night.

  • Reviewer: Yves

Comments: The house is too messy on the outside. The TV was still on after 2:30am (too loud) and we were awakened at 2am by two people talking out loud. The room was very small for the price we paid (~80$). I would not recommend.

Comments: I actually enjoyed my first experience in a hostel. The people who stayed there were cool. Steve is extremely nice and accommodating. I was able to check in earlier than expected.

Comments: Steve's place was killer. Highlights are host's communication and attentiveness to what you need. There was a good group of people and I think that attests to the relaxed vibe of the spot, everybody was friendly and chill. The spot was in a central location, I could take a road bike anywhere around Honolulu. Its a no frills location but the street is really calm, nothing to worry about. I liked it a lot and would return anytime.

Comments: I was traveling with my family of 4 and I just needed a place to stay for a few hours between my previous Airbnb check-out and my flight (which was very late at night). The entire place wasn’t anything like described. Steve gave me a “special offer” of 3 beds in a private room, that were not listed on Airbnb, which I paid more for. When I walked in, the kitchen had stains everywhere: on the fridge, counter tops, sink, and more. When I reached to turn on the light, I saw a huge ant colony. I get that Hawaii is hot and there could be insects. But ants don’t come out for nothing, they come out when there’s food laying around uncleaned. I was obviously frustrated and tried to call Steve to ask what I should do. But he never answered... I decided to walk in to take a look at the bedroom but my promised “private” room was not private at all. It was a shared room with multiple other guests. The entire room reeked of sweat and other odors. The entire place looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in years. I kindly asked for my money back but Steve told me to stop being childish and to stop texting him. I spent $50 on Uber to get there and $100 for the place. I am not an unreasonable person but this is so unfair. Nothing was as described so the decent thing Steve could do is to refund my money.

Comments: Convenient location and dorm style. A/C keeps the place livable and sleepable. If you’re on a budget, it’s not a bad place to be!

Comments: If you need a bed. It’s perfect. Steve is extremely accommodating. The place is a bit noisy outside but other than it was great. Steve can’t control the noises outside, but he does his best.
